Midoriya found himself at the Ashido Family Witch Shop, a familiar place to him. He had been experimenting with their potions for years trying to get himself an artificial quirk mark but to no avail. He was good friends with Mina Ashido, who was about his age. She was one of his only supporters in his quest to become a UA Knight. He entered the shop to find Mina at the counter cheerful as always.
"Good Morning Midoriya?" she waved, "I just brewed another potion for you to try. I think I got the right amount of pig's brain in it this time. You should get a quirk mark within three days. Although, it may cause you to lose vision in one eye."
"No thanks Mina, I think I'll pass. I'm actually here for some acid. Do you have any by chance?" asked the green-haired boy.
"That's funny," giggled the pink-haired witch.
"What's funny?" Izuku raised his brow.
"Normally no one wants my acid. I don't know why, it is my specialty after all but today, you and this gentleman over here ask me for it. Words probably getting around about how great it is. Here I'll go prep some for both of you." she headed to the back room. Izuku turned around to find a boy with bi-colored hair and eyes. He looked familiar, but Izuku couldn't quite tell why? He felt drawn to him for some reason. There was something off about it, something different. He sat down next to him as they both waited for Mina to get them some acid.
"So… I haven't seen you around here," said Izuku, but the bi-colored boy didn't bother to even look in his direction. "Do you know the Ashidos?" Izuku asked hopefully, but he still didn't respond. "What do you need the acid for?" he asked again and this time he thought he saw something. A hitched breath, squinted eyes and a small frown. Still, there was no real response.
"Okay, two freshly prepped bottles of acid ready to go!" cheered Mina as she handed them both a bottle. Shoto exited the shop as quickly as possible, more aware than ever how socially awkward he was. Izuku noticed a folded piece of paper fall out of his pocket as he left.
"I think he dropped this," he picked up the sheet and showed it to Mina.
"You should probably go and give it to him then." she smiled a little suggestively, which didn't quite sit well with Izuku.
"I -uh-yeah," the green-haired boy said as he ran out of the store.
Shoto was ready to go on and find the next ingredient as quickly as possible, but he figured the rest wouldn't be this easy. He reached into his back pocket to pull out the recipe when he noticed it was missing. He had a moment of panic until he saw the green-haired boy from the store running towards him with the paper in hand.
"You dropped something," he yelled out to Shoto as he ran towards him.
"Thanks," Shoto said softly.
"So you can speak. I thought maybe-you know what never mind. As Izuku went to hand him the sheet of paper, the sun decided to reveal an interesting border to him. A border he had definitely seen before. He quickly retracted his hand and opened up the paper to see an all too familiar recipe.
"Hey! What are you doing?" protested Shoto.
"A witch's acid...a feather of darkness...a tear of mourning...a hair from a retired kni-This is the recipe for the wishing potion. You're making it too aren't you?" Izuku accused the young prince.
"I-Uh" Shoto didn't know what to say, the wishing potion was supposed to be a secret that only he knew about. "I-I don't know what you're talking about?" Shoto snatched the piece of paper from the other boy's hands and proceeded to walk away.
"Wait- I know that recipe like the back of my hand, you're trying to make a wish too aren't you?" Izuku said trailing behind the prince.
"Again, I don't know what you're talking about. Why don't you just leave me alone." Shoto began to pick up his pace.
"Come on, don't be like that. We have the same goal don't we!" shouted Izuku who was now several paces behind the prince. The prince continued to walk ahead, and Izuku continued to follow me. There was something so familiar about him, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Maybe he should just let the bicolored boy go, there was no point in forcing him into partnering up. You can't do this alone though? A voice in the back of his mind told Izuku and it was right. After taking a few deep breaths, Izuku ran to catch up to the bicolored boy. The nerve on Shoto's forehead bulged in frustration when he heard his footsteps. What did this kid want from him?
"Stop following me!" yelled the prince, causing Izuku to step back a bit.
"I-uh- I'm sorry. I'll leave you alone if you want. It's just that, I got really excited to see you had the same recipe as me. I thought that maybe I'd be nice if we could hunt for the ingredients together, like an adventure of sorts. Also, you seem really familiar and…." Izuku continued to mutter about some other things that Shoto could not quite comprehend. Still, he felt bad for the boy in front of him. Maybe he could use the help too? After all, he didn't know where he could find half of these ingredients.
"Fine, just stop your muttering. Do you know where these ingredients are?" Shoto asked Midoriya.
"Yes," the boy nodded, "well most of them at least."
" Then...I suppose I'd be in our best interests to team up," sighed Shoto. The boy perked up at his words. He looked good like that, with a smile on his face.
"Yes, I think that's a great idea. Thanks…" Izuku paused, "I don't think I know your name?"
His name? Prince Shoto Todoroki of the Todoroki kingdom. He couldn't quite tell this stranger his identity. The kingdom didn't even know about his existence and he wanted to keep it that way. Soon, the kingdom would see a new leader and Shoto could continue living his life out of the spotlight.
"Shoto," he responded honestly. That was his name, after all, the name his mother gave him.
"Hi Shoto, my name is Izuku Midoriya and I'm going to become a UA Knight." smiled the green-haired boy.
A Knight? Shoto knew the UA Knights and hated most of them. He only trusted his personal knight Iida, then again he wasn't allowed to meet the other knights, but his mother warned him that they weren't good people. " A UA Knight huh? What's your quirk mark then?" Shoto scanned the boy's body, there was no visible mark. Perhaps it was under his clothes like on his heel, back or chest. Shoto found himself blushing at the thought.
" Uh- yeah about that. I don't have a quirk mark?" Shoto's eyes widened. It was a known fact that you couldn't be a UA Knight without a quirk mark. "That's why I'm trying to make the wishing potion you see. I want to wish for a quirk mark so that I can be a UA Knight and help people." Shoto smiled, the knights could use more people like Izuku.
"Well, we should probably get going then. The next ingredient is a feather of darkness. Do you know where we might find it?" asked Shoto.
"I think I do," nodded Midoriya as he started to run towards the outskirts of the kingdom. He had been researching the ingredients for months now. He felt goosebumps rise on his arms, his heart always ached for an adventure, and this time he was going to get just that. There was one problem though, the next place they were going wasn't pretty.
