Jeni awoke in the wee hours of the morning. She was tucked into a nice, comfortable red bed in a red child's room. There was a lamp in the corner. Jeni tiredly slid out of the bed and quietly stepped to the lamp. She twisted the knob to turn it on. She found that there was a plate with pie on it. Jeni grabbed it and sat back in the bed.
The pie was mainly yellow with some dots of red here and there. Cherry cheesecake. That's what Jeni thought it was. She grabbed the fork that was also on the plate and cut a tiny slice. She stabbed it and slowly lifted it to her mouth. She enclosed the flavorful treat within her jaw and began to chew. The overwhelming tastes of butterscotch and cinnamon rushed to Jeni's taste buds, bringing a smile forth. Jeni's eyes began to water, for this tasty snack reminded her so much of her mother's cooking.
Jeni ate another slice and let her watering eyes let a tear go free. Toriel was so kind and caring, just like Jeni's mother was. Jeni devoured the rest of the pie. She stretched and stood up, setting the dirty plate to her side. With her sleeve, Jeni wiped her mouth, clearing off the crumbs of the delicious butterscotch cinnamon pie. She trotted over to the wardrobe, wanting to change out of her own dirty, messy clothes. Jeni saw four pairs of the same outfit for day clothes. There were two different pairs of pajamas. It seemed Toriel was not that much into fashion. Jeni donned one of the pairs of day clothes, which were long-sleeve green shirts with a yellow stripe and khakis, after removing her clothes from the previous day. There were a pair of blackish brown shoes. They were too big for Jeni. She looked around.
There was a little weaved shoebox with all different sizes of kids shoes. All the shoes were different sizes, but the same blackish brown style as the ones in the wardrobe. Jeni looked for her size. When she found them, she slipped them on. Jeni realized that it was around five in the morning, so she looked around her room. She saw a box. She looked inside and saw it was a dis-assembled bed. Jeni shrugged and decided to inspect other things. There were so many cool toys! She checked them all out. That was strange. They all had the name 'Asriel' on the bottom. Who was Asriel? He probably just gave these toys to Toriel. Jeni walked over to a drawn picture that was hanging on the wall. It was a beautiful yellow flower. Jeni inspected the signature.
Chara Dreemurr.
Chara Dreemurr? Jeni thought that her name was Chara Dream. Huh. Jeni looked at a photograph to her right. There Toriel was, even happier than she saw her yesterday.. There was a smiling goat man wearing a crown and a goat boy wearing the same outfit in the wardrobe. Chara was also there. So she really did come down here. Did Toriel know Chara? Well, obviously she did. Why else would she have a picture of Chara and herself in her own home? Was Chara still down here? Hopefully. Jeni and Chara could be best friends! Jeni excitedly ran out of her room, curious to know the answer to her question. She was in a hallway. She looked to her left. There seemed to be other bedrooms and a bathroom. Jeni checked to bedroom next to her. She heard the gentle snore of Toriel. Jeni walked in and flicked on the lights. Toriel awoke quickly.
"Urk... What happened? Oh, hi Jeni! Wait, wh- where'd you find those clothes?" Toriel said. She seemed nervous. Did Jeni do something?
"Oh, sorry mom. I found them in the wardrobe. I was wondering if Chara was down here? We were really good friends on the surface," Jeni said.
"O- oh. Chara is no longer here, u- unfortunately. She died..." Toriel said.
"Oh. Okay," Jeni said. She felt sad. She ran up to Toriel and climbed up into her lap. She hugged her new mom who she loved greatly. Toriel embraced Jeni back. They sat there hugging for a while until Toriel unhinged Jeni and stood up.
"Is everything okay, mom?" Jeni asked. She wanted to make sure Toriel was very okay.
"Yes. I took care of Chara for three years. I feel that I could've helped her not die, but I failed. It's all alright, though. Are you hungry, Jeni?" Toriel said, smiling at the small child.
"No, I'm good. You make really, really good pie! I ate my slice of butterscotch cinnamon pie when I woke up. What are we going to do today, mom?" Jeni asked.
Toriel softly smiled at locked eyes with Jeni. Toriel saw her reflection in the excited, bright blue eyes of Jeni. Toriel reached out and ruffled her hopeful daughter's hair. Jeni smiled at the caring act of affection.
"Jeni, I have no idea. But, we can do whatever you want, my child," Toriel said. Jeni looked up into Toriel's big, brown, loving eyes.
"What did you call me, mom?" Jeni asked, gleefully looking at her mother.
"Why, I called you my child. You are that, are you not?" Toriel asked. Their eyes made contact as their smiles both expanded. The two once again embraced one another in a huge hug that brought forth great joy from both the boss monster and little human.
"Yeah. I am your child," Jeni said with the largest, happiest grin in the world. Jeni reached for Toriel's big, fluffy white hand. Their hands clenched and they walked out of Toriel's bedroom. Toriel led Jeni to the happy kitchen of her humble home. Jeni pulled out a seat at the beautiful, yellow wooden table. She sat herself down. Toriel scooted Jeni forward, which brought forth a giggle out of the happy child's mouth. Toriel grabbed a seat of her own and they sat happily there, daughter and mother.
