Sometimes Luke thinks that running away was the worst idea he ever had. Especially when it comes to this part of his life.
"Hey, ya big oaf I'm talking to you!" the Cyclops turned away from the mortal girl and looked at the demigod straight in the eyes. Luke wondered what that little girl saw when she saw the cyclops. Hopefully, it was something better than he was seeing.
The cyclops smelled the demigod and charged right for Luke. His big eye-widening at the sight.
Luke ran and the Cyclops Followed.
May had a gift for prophecy. Her gift attracted the attention of one of the gods. She was special, her parents always told her she was and after meeting the love of her life she was positive that she was meant to be more than she was.
Luke was born in the summer of 85' to May Castellan and Hermes, the messenger of the gods, the god of thieves. They were a happy little family living in Westport, Connecticut and possibly nothing could ruin it.
Not for May, not for Hermes and especially not for the baby held in May's arm.
Luke ran into the closest forest he could find, the cyclops Still following. Luke waited for the Cyclops to get close enough before turning around and taking out his bronze dagger. He charged toward the creature and jabbed the dagger into its thigh. The monster's eye widened as he fell back and turned to dust.
Luke fell to his knees to catch his breath.
Hermes and May were in the nursery trying to put Luke to sleep. Nothing seemed to be working, the baby kept on fussing and whining in his crib. May was worried her baby was getting sick, she picked up the infant and brushed the sandy blond hair out of her baby's face.
Luke opened his eyes and smiled up at his mom. May knew that smile anywhere, it was the same one Hermes wore when he got exactly what he wanted. It was the smile of a trouble maker.
"Well look at that," said Hermes as he walked up and wrapped his arms around May's waist and looked down at Luke. "Looks like he planned this from the start. The little sucker got exactly what he wanted, didn't he." Luke looked up at his Father and squealed. He lifted his tiny arms in a demand to be picked up by him.
"Like father like son." was all May said with a smile on her face as he handed off the child to Hermes. The three of them made their way out of the nursery and into the master bedroom. Hermes put Luke in the middle of the bed As May Lied down on her side of the bed. Hermes followed her lead and moved his hand up to Lukes head and gently brushed his hair. "Maybe a story will help you fall asleep.," said Hermes.
Hermes told them about the Oracle of Delphi and May knew she had to be the new host of the spirit. This was why she was so special, this was what she was supposed to do.
Luke spent the night in a cave in that same forest. He got lucky, No monster found him, he could sleep peacefully for once but he didn't. He couldn't sleep, if he slept he would dream and he didn't want to dream. Not tonight. It's been a few years since he ran. He wonders if he made the right call.
'Of course, he did' Luke thought. His dad left and his mom went insane. This was the right call for him. But he couldn't help but feel guilty for leaving her all alone. That wasn't his fault though if anyone was to blame it was Hermes for letting it all happen
Luke doesn't remember falling asleep but he did remember waking up to find a celestial bronze sword at his feet. He wondered how it got there.
The Happy Family of three found themselves at camp half-blood. Luke was one year old now. Hermes didn't support Mays decision, he did not know what he would do if things went wrong and if it did work he would never be able to Be with may again. Luke couldn't lose his mom, Hermes wouldn't allow for as much as he fought with May over this he still brought her to the camp to perform the ceremony.
It didn't work. Hermes tried to save her but it didn't work. May was never the same again and Hermes left so he wouldn't hurt his family ever again.
Luke was hungry. It's been a few days since he had eaten anything and he was starting to go crazy. This was another thing luke hated about being on the run. Having only a little amount of money made it harder for him to get basic human essentials and by that he meant food.
By the way did Luke mention the fact that he was hungry
Luke walked and walked and walked until he found a trail of coins that lead to the edge of town. He picked up the coins and put them into his pocket while following the trail. It led to what looked like a restaurant. Luke looked up at the sign and read Monster donuts.
He opened the door and walked in.
Luke was nine when he decided he couldn't take it anymore. He was going to run. He had enough of his absent father. He had enough of his mother's breakdowns. He loved her, he did but he just couldn't do it anymore.
He gathered his things and rushed down the stairs and made his way to the door. He went to open, but then a hand grabbed his shoulder and yanked him back. He turned around and saw the glowing green eyes of his mother looking down at him.
"Luke, you can't go, I won't let you".
You will die
You will die
You will die
And lord Kronos will rise
You will be the fall of Olympus Luke
You must not leave."
And just as quickly as it came, it left. He now saw the normal brown eyes of his mother glancing down at him.
"I'm going to make dinner for us how that sounds,'' said May as if what she just said wasn't said at all.
"I'm going to go out and play with some friends mom, I'll be back a bit later."
"Ok Luke, just be careful. I'll make some grilled cheese and cookies for when you come back."
"Sounds good mom."
May turned towards the kitchen "hey mom." "yes, Luke," May said as she turned back.
"I love you, mom."
"I love you to baby."
And with that being said Luke ran away from home. He stopped in front of a tree crying knowing that nothing was ever going to be okay again.
You will die
You will die
You will die
Repeating in his head over and over again.
May never stopped making Luke his grilled cheese and cookies.
Luke made his way to the cashier and ordered about a dozen donuts. Hopefully, it will last him a long time. He paid using the coins he had in his pocket. He grabbed his receipt and stepped off to the side to wait for his order.
A few minutes passed until he saw a girl around his age bring the donuts directly to him. Luke looked at her, really looked at her and for a second he thought he saw a metal leg instead of a human on. That would be crazy.
The girl had a cute bob and red lipstick. Luke was almost sure it was impossible to make a fast-food uniform look good but she somehow made it work. He wanted to be with her for the rest of his life.
She got closer and Luke stood up so fast he almost tripped on a chair leg.
"Well arent u a cutie pie."
Luke blushed at that complement. The girl stood right in front of him. He looked down at the silver name tag on her shirt. Kelly. What a beautiful name.
Wait
Wait
Wait
'How was he able to read that.' Luke thought ' he was dyslexic and then again how was he able to read the sign on the restaurant.' Things aren't adding up and Luke knew he had to get out.
He grabbed the box of donuts out of the girl's hand with thanks. He turned towards the door and started to speed walk towards it. The girls caught his arm and made him face her again.
" Look at you Luke, the perfect pawn in this game. Kronos will rise and you will be the reason why."
All Luke did was stare back into her eyes. The most beautiful eyes he had ever seen. Slowly he turned back around and as if in a trance he walked out of the donut shop.
And there he was standing gods know where with a box of donuts he got from….
From….
From where? He didn't remember.
Why couldn't he remember?
