Hi everyone!!
Thank you sooo much to those of you who reviewed my first chapter, and followed me. :) You guys seriously made me feel special.
I decided to change the timeline a bit, Thorne is still blind. I love how he fell in love with Cress's personality- not her looks.
On with the show...
Thorne Perspective
Flashback
Cress and I had just finished our first round of eye drops that day and it was about 8:50am.
Even now, whenever I feel the eye drops in my eyes, I couldn't help but recall her sitting in my lap and crying into my shirt. Holding her small figure to me, and never wanting to let go.
I wanted to hold her like that again; without the crying of course, but I knew that couldn't happen.
The same night she confirmed my worst fears: she didn't love me.
No! I can't think about that. I walked into the galley to get a drink and clear my head. I sat down and
began mindlessly tapping Morse code table on the table.
I love you Cress. I love you Cress
We had learned Morse Code in military training at Adroneda, but it had never been useful before I began tapping messages to Cress. Ick!! I'm sounding all sappy.
I love you Cress. I love you Cress!
Someone coughed, and I spun around to see who, then remembered I could barely see. Stupid eyes.
The person began tapping on the table.
You know Morse code?
I tapped back:
Yes- and who are you?
Wolf
Okay. So, Wolf knew Morse Code and was tapping me. Wait!! Did he hear me talking to Cress?
Thorne: Uh Wolf, did you hear that?
Wolf: Obviously
Thorne: Well that's embarrassing
Wolf: You're too good for her!!
Don't you think I know that! Calm down Captain. Deep breaths.
Thorne: Scarlet's too good for you
I heard a slam on the table.
Wolf: TAKE THAT BACK!!!
We began arguing. It started as bickering but slowly ecalated onto a full scale silent flyting.
I honestly don't know how long we'd been arguing, but Wolf was NOT going to have the last word.
End Flashback
I heard the doors slide open, and someone's soft footsteps enter the galley. I immediately recognized them as Cress ( I had the sound of her footsteps committed to memory).
The footsteps ceased, and I could imagine her taking on the scene before her... and quite a scene it was too.
I was standing up on the counter, and Wolf was still sitting at the table, but it looked more like brooding. My foot and his fist still raised for the next insult.
"Uhh.. Captain, what's going on?" she said shyly. I think Wolf scared her a bit. I opened my mouth to answer her, but Cinder beat me to it (when did she get here?).
"Thorne is being an idiot, and Wolf is making weird decisions." she stated matter-a-factly.
"Okay?" Cress said, sounding even more confused than before, "I just came to get a drink. I lost track of time in the cockpit. But now that I think of it: Captain, it's time for your eye drops."
I smiled,"Okay Cress, you get a drink and I'll wrap things up here." "Okay."
I turned back to the direction I was pretty sure Cinder was sitting in, "How long have you been in here?" I questioned.
I could practically hear her smirk, "About an hour."
My palms began to sweat, "How much did you understand?"
"Everything," she said gravely.
Are you kidding me! Does everyone have to know I like Cress? I have a reputation to uphold!!
"Captain," Cress interrupted my thoughts, " do you need help off the counter?"
"No!" I shouted boldly, and leapt off the counter. I slipped and ended up lying spread eagle on the floor. Cinder and Wolf burst out laughing.
I bounded back up and grabbed Cress's small hand, definitely not noticing how perfectly it fit into mine. "Let's go." I said and pulled her out of the galley.
Cress Perspective
I was so confused. I had gone in the galley for a glass of water and I'm pretty sure I interrupted something.
Thorne had been standing on the counter, and Cinder looked like she was trying to contain her laughter. Wolf was there too, and even though he and Scarlet were super sweet, he still made me uncomfortable.
I was honestly glad to be dragged away.
I found myself standing in front the map Thorne hung in his room. He told me once the red pins were for all the places he'd been- and there were a lot of them. What had it been like to go on so many amazing adventures?
He unknowingly snuck up behind me, "Have I ever told you about the time I climbed a snowy mountain ?"
I just about jumped out of my skin. "N-n-no" I stammered.
"Well," he started, "it was about a week after my desertion. I don't remember where the mountain was but I felt free; like I could do anything- even climb a mountain." He chuckled a bit to himself.
These moments were the ones I cherished most, when he was truly himself and not a charming criminal-mastermind; just Thorne.
"About halfway up, it started snowing, and not like sprinkle but full on blizzard. Maybe stupidly, I decided to just keep climbing. I arrived at the top freezing and wet, but stars was it worth it. That view is one I cannot even begin to describe. The clouds and sunlight just... ugh. I'm bad at describing but it was beautiful, okay." He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Okay"
He started tapping something on the table, like:
. . / . - .. / - - -/ . . . - / . / - . - - / - - - / . . - /
I think it may have been Morse code but I had never bothered to learn it so that was just a guess. Whatever it was, I kind of liked it.
"Uhh.. shouldn't we do the eye drops now." Thorne's voice tore me from my thoughts. I went to his nightstand and grabbed the dropper. Four in each eye.
Flashbacks from the night of the ball entered my mind, but I dismissed them. We were just friends: Captain and crewman.
But I could not help wishing we could be something more.
Soo.. what did you guys think?
That back there was Morse Code for I love you.
Please review, as cliche as it sounds it really motivates me to write- and if you have any writing ideas for me I would really appreciate the inspiration.
I hope you had as much reading this as I had fun writing it.
I'll try to update soon, see you next time!!! Bye!!
