Stars4life: I read your review about their ship name. Bryatt? That's the best sounding one I could think of!

Anyway! On to the chapter!

Chapter 2

Wyatt could hear the music playing from the opposite room, regardless of how low it was playing. And he could hear her soft humming along to the music. He yawned and took a breath, inhaling the scent of bacon and eggs, as well as the fresh air coming from the open windows. He stretched slowly, sprawled across the bed. He still wasn't used to it. At home in the den, they would sleep in pelts and furs that they had retrieved, or even slept in a pile together. He would always wake up with Willa's hair in his face or Wynter pressing against his back hard. Sleeping in a bed was different, it was something he was having to grow accustomed to. There were a lot of things the werewolves were having to grow accustomed to.

He yawned again and looked around the room with bleary, sleep-filled eyes. The apartment she lived in was small, a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home on the bottom floor, but it was what she could afford at the moment. Things had been hard since her parents passed, a freak car accident that left her and her brother orphans. There wasn't much money split between them, but both brother and sister were trying. And she never let it get the best of her, always had a smile on her face, a skip in her step.

He slowly slipped out of bed, pressing his feet against the cold floor, giving him a jolt awake. He ran a hand through his hair, it was getting longer than it used to be, and he kind of liked it. His hand reached for his necklace that always sat on the table. Many times, it had been abruptly pulled from his neck as a pup, he was too afraid to sleep with it on now. He looked up, seeing the picture frame propped up against the lamp. Addison had taken it during their second Prawn, when both had, unknown to them, been crowned Prawn king and queen. They were both looking at each other, grinning. He still laughed at the photo, Zed was in the background of it, shouting something, and had gotten caught in the phot. Yawning, he grabbed his moonstone necklace from the bedside table and slipped it on, feeling the energy course through his veins. His eyes flashed yellow, before settling back brown as he stood up and shuffled out of the room.

She was humming and dancing to the beat of the song on her small radio, food sizzling on the small stove. The sun shone brightly through slightly opened windows, letting in a soft breeze. Wyatt chuckled silently, watching her. This was the girl he fell in love with. The girl he defied all odds for. He quickly and quietly slipped forward, before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to him.

She couldn't help the small squeak of surprise, followed by laughter. Her head laid back on his chest, feeling the rumbles of his laugh against the back of her head. "Wyatt." She mused softly. "The food's going to burn, let me go." She tried to wiggle away from him, her face flushed red. He shrugged. "I don't need that, my snack's right here. Good enough to eat." He teased her and she rolled her eyes, shaking her head once he finally let her go. "What are you doing up so early, little pup?" He asked.

She smiled; the nickname always made her smile. Ever since he started calling her that the first time, they met back in her sophomore year of high school. "I have to go dress shopping today. Addison's dragging Bree, Eliza, and I along." She explained. He groaned playfully. Ever since Zed had asked Addison to marry him, it was all anyone ever talked about. Wedding this and wedding that. Plus, Addison made Bree, Eliza, and Brooke her bridesmaids, so they had to go with her wherever.

"Why can't you guys just make it simple? Get your marking and call it there?" He asked, leaning back against the counter. She turned to look at him, handing him the plate of food. "Weddings are not simple for us human folk, scruffy." She teased him, giggling as she grabbed hers and slid past him to her table. "You're going to have to get used to it if we ever get married." She added, sitting down. Wyatt chuckled, following her. There was no doubt he wanted to marry her, to call her his mate. But he knew traditions were different for wolves than they were for zombies and humans. Willa had warned him of that. But he was hooked on her, and he wasn't letting go.

"Would you ever want to marry me?" Brooke looked up from her food when he asked her that. And there is was, the vulnerable side of him that she rarely saw. He was always confident in what he did, always strong, but wise. His eyes darkened when he asked something like this, something that brought out his soft side. She smiled softly, reaching across the table to take his hand in hers. Wyatt placed his hand in hers, softly scratching at her skin with his claws just as he always did. She closed her hand around his. The complex geode star moved as she flexed her arm, the one that matched his and the other werewolves. "Wyatt, I would love to marry you, someday. When we're ready. I would love to be a part of the pack and even have kids with you. Don't ever doubt yourself. You're amazing, and you're the one for me." She explained to him. Wyatt felt his face flush as he squeezed her hand gently.

Her phone buzzed. She looked down and then at her watch before sighing. "That's my cue, Addison's downstairs." She said quickly, moving and putting her plate in the sink. She grabbed her phone and purse, before smiling at him. She walked over to him. "Are you going to the den?" She asked him, smiling. Wyatt shrugged. "Willa needs my help with the pups." He answered.

She giggled. "You're great with them." She said softly, reaching down and capturing his lips with hers in a sweet kiss. She pulled back after a moment. "Brush your fangs." She teased and he rolled his eyes. She laughed. "I love you." She called out before heading out the door.

The last time he ever saw her.

Wyatt leaned his head back against the wall, uncomfortable in the tiny hospital chair he was sitting in. It was quiet in the hospital waiting room, except for the thunder rumbling outside. A storm was coming in, and he could sense it would be a long one.

As soon as they had gotten to the hospital, they had taken Brooke from him, placing her on a gurney and heading off down the hall. He wasn't allowed to see her and had been forced to stay here. That had been hours ago, and he was still waiting. He was impatient, uncomfortable. He just wanted to see her. Make sure she was going to be okay.

Questions ran through his mind. Where had she gone? What had happened to her? Why didn't she come back? Was it something he had done? Had they hurt her? His claws scratched at his pants, trying not to think about what they might have done to her if they had done anything to her.

Somebody moved to sit beside him. He didn't have to tell as soon as the bushy black hair landed in his face. Willa handed him a cup of coffee. It was something the humans had introduced to them and the three of them had enjoyed it. It didn't make them jittery as they thought. He smiled at his sister, before taking the cup and taking a sip of it. "Anything?" She asked softly. He shook his head, looking down. Willa sighed. Wynter was coming back, but she had to check on the pack first since they were thrown around after their alpha and beta left. Willa had spent a few minutes letting everyone know what was going on.

She wrapped her arm around his shoulders, pulling him to her. "She's here. That's what matters the most." She said softly, reassuring him.

"Yeah, but what happened? Why was she back here, after three years? What was she doing with the hunters? Who did all that to her?" The questions flew out of his mouth before he could even stop it. Willa just listened to him, letting him talk. He needed it.

"We don't know those answers, not until we're able to talk to her. Not until she's ready to talk." Willa told him, looking at her little brother. He looked so broken, so upset. He had just found the one he loved, after three years, broken. He didn't know what to do.

"Willa!" Willa turned toward the hallway. Zed had appeared, practically frazzled with Addison behind him a few feet, hand on her forming stomach. "Is it true?" Zed asked. Willa nodded. Addison's hands came over her mouth as Zed ran a hand through his hair. "It's really her." He said, plopping down into the seats across from them.

"How is she?"

"We don't know yet. She's still back there." Willa explained, speaking for her brother. She knew it was hard on him, so if she could, she would speak for him right now. "I can't believe it. She actually came back." He missed her. She was one of the first ones, like Addison, that had introduced herself to them when they were first accepted at Seabrook High. She became a little sister to him, and he missed her dearly. She was Addison's cousin, a missing part of their family. They missed her so much, and they never thought they would see her again.

"How did you find her?" Addison asked softly, sitting down across from them and beside Zed, who was leaning against his knees.

"I was standing guard, waiting for the hunters to come back my way. I got a whiff of her scent, and just followed it. She was trying to run, get away from something. Them, I'm guessing. She was terrified of that man that had grabbed her." Wyatt explained softly, looking up when Willa's hand rubbed his shoulder. The alpha had grown more sincere as she grew. She wasn't working on a whim and wasn't afraid of who she was. She learned to be a compassionate and considerate alpha while taking care of her pack. A better alpha. She knew he was going through a lot.

"Addison!" Addison looked up when she heard Bree, who was walking down the hall with Bonzo behind her and Eliza trailing after them. Willa raised an eyebrow, looking at Zed. "Word travels fast." He said with a shrug.

"How is she?" Bree asked and Addison shook her head. No one knew. Bonzo turned to look at his stepsister, before guiding Bree and sitting down to wait with the rest of them. Eliza sighed, before plopping down beside them.

"We took care of the hunter. Attempted murder. But I don't think that's going to be the only one. It's the hydra effect." Zed tried to start a conversation. "You stop one. Two more grow in its place."

"They're hunters. We can take them. We took them on before." Wynter spoke up, startling everyone. She shrugged and walked over to sit beside Willa.

"But he was different. He wasn't scared of me, not in the slightest. Most of them at least showed a little fear. He immediately pointed the gun at me. It was like they knew who we were." Wyatt explained, looking at them. The man hadn't been scared of him in the slightest. He had been too focused trying to drag Brooke away. He was hurting her, and it still set his teeth on edge.

"We'll see if we can get him to talk once he comes to. He has to know something." Zed explained, trying to reassure the wolf. Everyone was on pins and needles now.

Footsteps echoed down the hall, and everyone looked up to Bucky who was jogging down the hallway. His eyes were wide, and hair frazzled. Addison stood up immediately and wrapped her arms around the older male. She had called him as soon as Zed had told her. She wasn't going to leave him out of the loop. She was his little sister. Bucky melted into his cousin's arms, hugging onto her for a moment, before pulling back and looking over at Wyatt. The two had had a little bit of tension since Wyatt started dating Brooke. Protective big brother against werewolf boyfriend. Wyatt stared at Bucky, but all he did was nod. "Thank you." He spoke softly, before moving to sit beside Addison.

Now all they could do was wait.

Time ticked on in the small waiting room, and still no word. But no one had moved from their place. Eliza was studying on her laptop, trying to find any clues or information on the hunter that was taken to jail thanks to Zed. Her fingers worked at the keys furiously.

Bree was flipping through wedding magazines, leaning back against Bonzo as he lazily watched the television set in the corner of the room, not paying attention. Zed joined Bonzo, with Addison laid uncomfortably on the chairs, her head in his lap as she tried to at least get a nap.

Wynter was being used as a fuzzy pillow now. Bucky was leaning against her side with his eyes closed but not asleep, and Willa's head was on her shoulder, dozing in and out of dreamland. She didn't mind it; she was happy to see her friends at least content at the moment. She glanced over at Wyatt, who was taking turns staring at his almost empty coffee cup or the wall in front of him. He couldn't wait any longer, it was getting worse and he wanted to know what was going on.

Finally, after agonizing hours, a nurse walked out with a clipboard in his hand. "Brooklynn Buchanan?" He jumped back when the entire waiting room, aside from Zed and Addison, jumped up to hear the news, zombies, humans, and werewolves alike. He swallowed thickly, before looking down at the clipboard. "Does she have any next of kin?" He asked.

"That's me. I'm her older brother." Bucky spoke quickly, taking a step forward. Wynter touched his hand, smiling softly to reassure him it was okay. "What about parents?"

"Our parents passed away three years ago, can you just let us know what's going on? How is she?" Bucky finally exclaimed, looking at the nurse, who looked worse for wear. Addison, finally sitting up, touched Bucky's shoulder. "How is she? We're all worried about her. Family and friends." She explained to the nurse, trying to calm him down. It seemed to work, and the tension fell away.

"She was very lucky. The fall only caused a very minor concussion, nothing too serious. We had to sedate her to keep her calm. She's stable. . ."

"Spit it out nurse, please," Eliza exclaimed. There was something more. He took a breath, before sighing. "The bruises were a mixture of old and new, all over her body. There are some scars as well as healing wounds on her body, but nothing fresh. Her ankle was sprained, we were able to set it and she would just need a few days off it. She is very malnourished, way too thin for a woman her age. You said you found her that way?"

"Yes, Sir. She seemed to be running from something. That's how we found her." Willa answered.

"It's going to be a long recovery for her. Mentally and emotionally. This is all new to her. The wounds we can heal but the rest of it. Whatever went on, we don't know, and that's up to you to find out." He finished explaining, sighing.

Wyatt felt his fist clenching, anger building up. "When can we see her?" He asked through gritted fangs.

"She's asleep right now. She'll be here for a few more nights, but you all can go see her. Two visitors in the room at a time though. Room 304." He finished and smiled weakly. The others thanked him, before heading down the hallway toward her room. When the room came into view, the door was closed. The group of people stopped, staring at the door for a moment.

"Wyatt." Wyatt looked up when Bucky spoke first, looking over at him. Bucky sighed. "You can go first." He said softly, taking a step back. Wyatt nodded his thanks, staring at the doorknob for a moment. Addison took a step forward, her hand on the werewolf's shoulder. "Do you want me to go with you?" She asked softly. Wyatt looked at her with a weak smile, patting her hand for a moment, before shaking his head. He could do this. He took a minute, before slowly opening the door and taking a step in.

He choked back a sob when he saw her lying there. She was pale, stark white against the blue hospital sheets. Oxygen was flowing into her body from the tubes in her nose, and bandages were wrapped around certain parts of her body, darker against her skin. Parts of her skin were blue or black from bruises, and her hair looked tangled and messy.

But it was her. Asleep, and hurt, but her. He could see the marking on her arm, as well as another, the three diamond markings that represented the moonstone. He smiled weakly, walking over to the side of the bed where the chair sat, right beside her.

"H-Hey little pup." He spoke weakly, knowing she couldn't hear him. The heart monitor was beeping beside her, and it set Wyatt's fangs on edge, but he continued. "I'm here." He sat down in the chair, wincing a bit. He reached over for her hand, before taking a second. Should he take it? He swallowed, before pushing through and taking her hand in his. "I've got so many questions Brooke, but I promise, I won't push them until you're ready. I've missed you. It's been so long. I can't believe you're back here, with me." He took a breath, his eyes glistening with tears.

"You're safe now. I'm never letting you out of my sight." He chuckled, before looking down. "They won't ever hurt you again, I promise. They'll have to go through me." He took another shaky breath. "I love you too. So much." He finally said, before putting his head on the edge of the bed, forehead pressed against the covers.

She was home. They were in for a long recovery, but she was home.

That's all that mattered to Wyatt.
