I am So sorry! I have been so busy as l have assessments this week and last week so l have forgotten. Anyways, this is the first chapter of Snow Melts, Enjoy!
Snowstream yawned as she exited the warrior's den, the sun still low. She looked up to see snow gently falling. Snowstream felt a raw pang of grief for her former mate, Oakwish. He had joined StarClan on the day of the first snowfall since forever. Bramblethorn, Berryfrost's father silently came out and sat next to Snowstream. "You miss him, don't you?" Snowstream nodded, her eyes filling with grief. A rustle came from the leader's den, it was Hawktail, the deputy and the Violetstar's mate. He beckoned for them to come and they walked towards the deputy. "Bramblethorn, l want you to lead a border patrol to the Windclan border with Dawnsky, Twigleap, Yarrowfoot and Silverpaw." Bramblethorn nodded and bid farewell and went to get his clanmates for the patrol. Hawktail turned to Snowstream. "I know today might be hard for you." Hawktail meowed as he glanced at the sky, snow falling. Snowstream suddenly grew angry. "Just because my former mate is dead, doesn't mean I'm useless!" She snapped and Hawktail flinched. Snowstream instantly regretted snapping at the deputy. "I'm sorry, your right, it is hard." Hawktail's gaze softened.
"it's okay, how about you lead a hunting patrol with Tigerwhisker, Blazeheart, Doveleaf and Sandypaw." She nodded but inside, she groaned. Doveleaf? Why her? she thought as she went to wake her clanmates up. she walked inside the warrior's den to see Tigerwhisker whispering to his sister, Frostclaw and Blazeheart were sleeping not too far. she gazed around the den and saw Doveleaf sleeping next to Blazeheart, suspiciously close to him. "Tigerwhisker, hunting patrol. Could you wake Blazeheart and Doveleaf?" Tigerwhisker nodded and said farewell to Frostclaw as he went to wake them up. Snowstream went out again to wake Sandypaw. When she entered the apprentice den, she saw Sandypaw and Dewpaw murmuring to each other. "Sandypaw, hunting patrol." The pale ginger she-cat was hesitant but bid farewell to Dewpaw and followed Snowstream out. When they stepped into the clearing, they met with Tigerwhisker and Blazeheart who looked annoyed. She wanted to ask him what was wrong, after all, Snowstream liked him a little but she focused on Tigerwhisker. "Where's Doveleaf?" Snowstream asked.
"She's refusing to go hunting so early in the morning." Snowstream snorted in disgust.
"Whatever then, let's go." The four cats walked outside as the crispy morning breeze blew, their fur rippling. Snowstream noticed Sandypaw lashing her tail as they walked further into the forest. She felt a twinge of sympathy for the young cat. She couldn't blame her for being angry. She was probably stuck with the worst cat ever for a mentor. Snowstream stopped as she caught a scent of vole. She crouched low and stalked it towards a fallen log. She got ready and leapt, but mid-air, the wind direction changed and the vole had caught her scent. it scurried away before she could touch it but it came to a stop as a ginger paw slammed down on it. Snowstream looked up and saw Sandypaw with her paw on it! "Well done!" Snowstream meowed as Sandypaw picked it up by the tail proudly.
"Good job!"Blazeheart meowed, waving his tail with happiness. Tigerwhisker nodded approvingly and walked on.
"Does he not like me or something?" Sandypaw asked, her tail drooping a little.
"I'm sure he does, but he's right, we should keep going." Sandypaw buried the vole and followed her clanmates. When the sun was higher, they had managed to catch a lot of prey considering it was beginning to turn leaf-bare. they had caught two voles, a rabbit and a small mouse. Snowstream smiled as she thought of how StarClan had blessed them with so much prey but her smile shortly fell as she thought of Berryfrost again. a raw pang of grief hit her When they entered the camp, Hawktail was waiting for them. "Good hunting, drop your prey on the fresh-kill pile and Snowstream, come with me." Snowstream and Blazeheart exchanged anxious glances. They dropped their prey on the fresh-kill pile and Blazeheart licked Snowstream on the ear. "You'll be fine, your doing an amazing job at being a warrior." Snowstream felt her blushing from ear tip to toe. She looked down and thanked him as she turned to the leader's den. She saw Violetstar attempting to wash, despite her round swollen belly. "Snowstream, sit." Violetstar greeted her with a warm smile as she beckoned for her to come closer. Hawktail was next to her, he didn't greet her the way his mate did. Snowstream also noticed Doveleaf next to Violetstar! Snowstream cautiously sat in front of them. Hawktail cleared his throat to speak. "I thought l told you to bring Doveleaf along. She's telling me that you never woke her up." Snowstream felt hot anger rushing through her, she knew what was coming but she pushed it down and replied calmly.
"I told Tigerwhisker to wake her up."
"That's not true! He never came up to me." Doveleaf protested, shooting Snowstream a quick smirk but launching into protest again. Snowstream growled.
"He did, you're only making that up because you're the one who said that you won't go." Snowstream saw Doveleaf panic a little. Before she could speak though, Violetstar spoke.
"How about we let Tigerwhisker tell us his part of the story." Snowstream and Doveleaf glared at each other but they nodded.
"I'll get Tigerwhisker." Hawktail meowed as he left to get him. Snowstream groaned inwardly, she absolutely hated Doveleaf.
