Chapter 2: Becoming a Hero

The day following his conversation with All Might Toshi got up early to make sure he made it to school on time. Despite his low sleep lifestyle Toshi was rarely left tired during the days, however that didn't mean that he didn't look like it. The lack of sleep left bags beneath his eyes and made him look like he needed a few winks. Because of his general unkempt appearance most people avoided him, all save for Kenji Bakugo, the closest thing Toshi had to a friend.

Kenji looked almost exactly like his father, though he was almost the exact opposite in personality. While his father Katsuki Bakugo had an explosive personality just like his quirk, Kenji on the other hand has a much more calm and approachable personality much like his mother Camie, and because of that Toshi tolerated him. Though the fact that his father was the number two hero and had a very dynamic personality did help that.

"Yo Toshi!" Called out the excitable voice of Kenji Bakugo, Toshi sighed, turning to face the only person he called friend. The irritated stare of Toshi's emerald green eyes met the crimson eyes of Kenji.

"Bakugo-san," Toshi groaned as the boy jogged up next to him, falling in pace with him, "What do you want?"

"Not a ton, how about you?" Kenji eagerly peered, adjusting the shirt of their middle school uniform. Despite both of their parents being the two most famous heroes in Japan they attended a relatively normal private school in Mustafu.

"I want to be left alone," Toshi dryly stated, his eyes focused on the task at hand, preparation for a boring day of middle school.

"Toshi you know that's not good," Kenji cheekily remarked, chuckling slightly at the bluntness of his childhood friend, "You need to socialize more, you don't have many friends."

"I'm not here to make friends Bakugo-san," Toshi retorted coldly, adjusting the strap of his bag as he looked out of the corner of his eye at the overly excited student.

"That's what they all say," Kenji snickered, his eyes widening as realization dawned on him, "Tell you what? Come over to my house for video games tonight!"

"I already told you I'm not here for such leisurely activities," Toshi growled, his green eyes narrowed in spite, "I've got to train if I'm going to get into UA."

"Aren't you going to get in on recommendation?" Kenji asked curiously, recalling that UA accepts students based on recommendations.

"I don't want it anymore," Toshi declared resolutely, "Honestly It'd just be me coasting in on my father's fame, I don't want that, I will get in through the entrance exam just like anybody else. That's why I can't stop training."

"How bout this then?" Kenji offered, his crimson eyes glinting mischievously, "You can come train with my dad and I."

"What?" Toshi turned, almost not believing what his friend was suggesting, he was very lucky for his friend's dad to be his favorite hero. While Ground Zero was definitely the type of hero Toshi despised, his insane determination towards his goal was awe inspiring, "You want me to train with your dad? Ground Zero? The number two hero?" Toshi had spent many nights at the Bakugo household, but not once did he ever get a chance to train with them, either he trained on his own or didn't train at all.

"I'd love that!" Toshi exclaimed excitedly, a rare smile crossing his often somber face, "I'll be over right after school."

With a boost of energy Toshi took off to school, eager for his day to be over. Kenji followed behind smiling, happy to see his friend so excited, it was funny how the two of them were actually big fans of each other's dads. Granted who wasn't a fan of Deku. Well Toshi wasn't, but Kenji understood that, if only slightly.

He and Toshi had been friends for as long as he could remember, he was by his side throughout all the chaos that ensued after his kidnapping. He remembers well the terror he felt when his best friend was taken by the villain Dabi. It was crippling and it made his father furious, despite how Katsuki felt about the elder Midoriya he would be darned if any scumbag would resort to hurting children.

Because of how Ground Zero led the investigation that led to his rescue, Toshi grew to respect Ground Zero very much. Even though he often appears to be self centered and only caring for his popularity Toshi realized that he is the type of hero that he admires, selfless. This led to one of the reasons why he tolerates Kenji, that and the fact that he truly sees Kenji as a friend.

With the whole day before them the two friends proceed through their typical school day without event, with Toshi excited the whole of the day. With the school day over both boys swiftly made their way to the Bakugo household. With Kenji leading the way into the building both boys were met with the pro-hero Glamour. Camie Bakugo(Formerly Utsushimi) looked much the same as she did as a youth, with only a few wrinkles creeping on her face with age.

"Yo Toshi whats up fam?" She asked in a typical Camie fashion, the outdated reference making Kenji cringe.

"Mom, that's not cool anymore!" Kenji fruitlessly pointed out despite knowing that no matter how much he reminded her she wouldn't change.

"Hello Mrs. Bakugo," Toshi responded anyway, despite her overly cheerful personality he actually liked her for her kindness.

"You're ol' man's already in the gym," She commented thoughtlessly as a deafening boom rocked the whole building. Shaking the windows in their frames.

Toshi followed Kenji into the garage and down the stairs to an iron door. The Bakugou's had enough money to build a quirk gym in their own home, with reinforced walls to withstand any explosions sent their way and a very large enclosure for fighting. Kenji opened the door with a rush of smoke and the sweet smell of nitroglycerin filling their nostrils.

Standing in the middle of the room panting with smoke swirling around him was the pro hero Ground Zero, though he only wore a tank top and sweats he exudes a sense of power and authority. Since he had graduated high school and started working as a pro hero he kept up a strict training regime that greatly increased his musculature. He had cut his hair short with an undercut. His red eyes turned to the door where he spotted Kenji with Toshi already taking his school uniform off, standing in just a white t-shirt and his trousers.

"Oi Kenji who said you could invite Deku Jr. over?" He spat out angrily, his eyes narrowing, "Not that I care, but I thought it was supposed to be a private session today?" He scoffed, softening slightly as he relaxed.

"Oh I was just thinking Toshi might like training with us!" Kenji prompted nervously twirling his thumbs, "Besides he really needed a pickmeup!"

"I did not need a pickmeup Bakugo-san," Toshi grunted, wrapping his hands with exercise tape, "I just wanted to train with your dad."

"Yeah that's right he did!" Ground Zero exclaimed loudly, his hands crackling with tiny explosions, "No way he'd want to train with that crappy Deku!"

"He's got a point there," Toshi said as he finished his hand wraps, "Are you ready Bakugo-sama?"

"Cut out with the Sama crap just call me Ground Zero," He spat out harshly as he got into a fighting pose, "Now you know the drill Deku Jr. right?"

"Oh yeah," Toshi crouched his body crackling with white lightning crossing his body, "One for One Overflow 20%!" Energy poured out across his body lighting it up much in the same his father would when he would use Full Cowling.

"Then let's get this going nerd!" Ground Zero shouted as he launched off the ground with an explosion, righting himself in the air with smaller explosions aiming for Toshi.

Reacting instinctively Toshi shot away in a white blur, hitting the wall and bouncing off towards the ceiling using it as a launch pad to launch towards Ground Zero's exposed back. The pro hero being a seasoned combat veteran saw this move coming the moment Toshi avoided his attack, reacting much faster than would be expected. Using an explosion to turn around and a second to blast Toshi back before he even got close.

"You gotta try better than that Deku Jr!" He snarled using explosions to launch himself into the air, using a free hand he grabbed Toshi's foot. With another explosion to add force he tossed the boy into the ground, knocking the wind out of him.

"Toshi!" Kenji cried out, activating his own quirk to create a mist of nitrous gas between his friend and his father, igniting it to shield them.

Kenji Bakugo

Quirk: Nitrous

He can create a nitrous gas that he can ignite at will. He can create the gas as he wishes.

"Thanks Kenji," Toshi grunted as he spat out some bile, his quirk returning to activation as the white lightning arked around him.

Shooting through the smoke created by the various explosions ignited, Toshi went low aiming to sweep out Ground Zero's legs. As he came out of the smoke the pro was nowhere to be found until a distinct crackling noise above him informed him of the hero's presence.

"Gotcha nerd!" He shouted as another explosion was launched.

Without a second to lose Toshi reeled his arm back filling it with 30 percent of his power, "Mighty Smash!" Throwing it forward, wind rushed followed after blowing Ground Zero and his explosion back, the kickback of the attack straining Toshi's arm.

Toshinori Midoriya

Quirk: One for One

The ability to stockpile to the users own energy to release for devastating attacks. It grows stronger the longer the user has it.

"Good one Deku Jr." Ground Zero complimented as he landed fifty back, his hands crackling with microexplosions, "And Kenji you're gonna need to use a stronger attack than that to get me down!"

"We won't back down Ground Zero-Sama!" Toshi shouted as he shot forward again, "We'll take you down!"

"You better!" He shouted back readying another explosion, "I don't expect anything less!"

Yo Shindo the pro hero Grand was having a really good day, he had taken down an infamous villain, stopped a car crash and signed some autographs. With the day winding down Yo was finishing the day with a bit of patrol. The city of Raxus was relatively quiet save for the occasional criminal.

"Aaaahhh!" A scream came from out of the alley he was passing by. Reacting swiftly like any hero would he rushed to aid of whoever needed his assistance.

Running down the alley he traced his way to the source. He rounded the corner only to find an empty alley. Careful to protect himself from a surprise attack Yo inspected the area. The alley was empty, nothing was there, but he was certain that something foul was afoot. Kneeling Yo placed his palm on the ground sending out a vibration that echoed back to him effectively allowing him to see what he couldn't before. He processed the information, finding a lone figure standing atop a nearby building.

The figure moved with lightning speed, dropping to the ground and sprinting forward towards Yo. With the skill of a trained hero Yo vibrated the ground, the resonance of his attack shattering the concrete. With rubble flying up through the air the figure moved with remarkable skill and grace, dodging past the rubble and debris. It was during this haunting spectacle that Yo noticed the blood red cloak the figure wore, frightening him deeply.

Yo sped through his own rubble up towards the figure, reaching his hand out Yo pressed his palm to the figure's chest. Yo created a vibration that would incapacitate any human, and fell back.

The figure froze for a moment before proceeding forward with their arms extended to the side. Underneath the hood of the cloak Yo caught a glimpse of pure white eyes, with no iris or pupil. The figure sprung forward with an outstretched hand, Yo caught his hand and sent another vibration only to see it ripple through the figure's hand like it was liquid. Reacting accordingly Yo jumped back sending a vibration through the air towards the figure, but again it rippled the figure to no effect.

The figure dashed forward keeping within line of sight of Yo, poised and ready to attack. Yo landed and did a backflip away from the figure as they lashed out, their arm seemingly fluid. Yo skidded to halt staring down the figure. The figure cocked their head and spoke something in an unintelligible language before springing forward again, this time catching Yo's foot as the hero attempted to jump away. With more force than their frame betrayed the figure pulled Yo down, smashing him to the ground.

"Balance must be obtained," The figure muttered as he pressed his hand against Yo's throat, "Good for evil, and evil for good." With a raised hand thrust forward a blade of water pierced Yo's heart killing the hero instantly, "I'm so sorry, but it must be obtained, we cannot have an imbalance, there must needs be an opposition in all things."
