Della Duck was having lunch with her brother Donald. The two were currently chatting and eating their lunch. They both enjoyed any time they got to spend together even if it was something as little as having lunch together.
"So Louie gave you a bit of hard time this morning?" Donald asked.
"Yeah , tried telling me he was sick again. This isn't the first time he pulled this."
"Yeah heh , he's always been good at that." Donald told his sister.
"Yeah ..." Della said before sighing .
"Something wrong?" Donald asked.
"It's just...I hope Louie doesn't think I'm being too hard on him. Me and him haven't really had the best relationship since I've been back and I feel like I'm just making it worse..."
"Della, I know how Louie can be, a little tough love won't kill him. Trust me , deep down Louie is just really sensitive. He doesn't show it but he is. He loves you Della, your his mother. It just takes some time to get him to open up."
"Yeah I guess that's true , I just wish I been there so things didn't have to be this way."
"You're here now. That's all that matters." Donald smiled.
"Yeah I guess." Della smiled back.
Just then Ms. Beakley came into the room. She looked at the two , eating their lunch, not noticing her yet. She cleared her throat to get their attention. Della and Donald hear this and turned their heads towards her.
"Sorry to interrupt but the boys school is on the phone. They'd like to speak to the parent or legal guardian of Louie. They said it was urgent." Beakley told them.
"What? What's wrong?" Della asked
"Im not sure, they refused to tell me anything. They need to speak to one of you"
Della and Donald both looked at each other as if to ask who should take it. Della then spoke up.
"Ok , I'll get it ." She said before getting up and went to get the phone. She put the phone to her ear.
"Hello?" She asked.
"Hello, is this the parent or legal guardian of Llewellyn Duck?" A voice at the other end of the line asked.
"Yes this is his mother speaking." Della said.
"Alright, This is Ms. McSwine , the nurse at Duckburg elementary, there's been an incident..." The voice said.
"Incident? What do you mean by that?! Did something happen?!" Della asked nervously.
"We're not sure exactly. All we know is that Llewellyn passed out durning lunch today..."
Della felt her heart drop when she heard this. What happened?! Why did Louie pass out?! Was he okay?! Why did she believe him this morning?! These and a million other questions were rushing through her head.
"What?! Is...Is he okay?!" She asked in a panic .
"Im not sure actually , Im sorry. We couldn't get him conscious so we had to have an ambulance come and take him to Duckburg General Hospital.."
"Oh my..." Della said in shock , not knowing what else to say.
"Im very sorry this happened but under the circumstances , We have Hubert and Dewford ready for you pick up." The nurse said.
"Alright, I'll be there right away!" Della said.
"Ok thank you Ms. Duck."
" Wait, can we pick up Webbigail Vanderquack as well? " She asked.
"Given the circumstances yes."
"Alright thank you!" Della said before hanging up.
Della quickly rushed back to Donald and Beakley. Donald saw the look on his sister's face and got worried. He could tell by the horrific look on her face something bad must have just happened.
"Della? What's wrong?" He asked.
'The school...Louie...passed out ... hospital..." She managed to get out.
Beakley didn't need to hear anymore. She was able to make out what happened. "I'll get Scoorge and have Lanchpad get the car ready right away!" She said before going off.
"Della, What's going on?!" Donald asked.
"Louie passed out at lunch today! The school had to have him sent to the hospital! "
"What?! What happened?!" Donald asked, worried.
"Im not sure, we need to go now!"
Dewey couldn't believe what just happened. One moment he was eating lunch with his brothers and crush , then the next thing he knew Louie just passes out. He couldn't wrap his head around it. Why did this have to happen? What was wrong with his brother?
He and Huey were both in the office , waiting to be picked up. Louie had been brought to the hospital by an ambulance. He was extremely worried about him. Something serious must be wrong in order to cause him to just pass out like that.
Just then Webby came into the office with her stuff. She saw Huey and Dewey sitting , waiting to get picked up and went and sat next to them.
"Hey Webs, what are you doing here?" Dewey asked.
"Oh Apparently your mom asked if I could get picked up now too. You know to save the trip." Webby answered.
"Oh makes sense." Dewey said.
"Yeah...I can't believe this. ... It's just crazy." Webby said.
"I know, I just hope he'll be ok." Huey said.
"I wonder what happened..." Webby wondered
" Who knows, hopefully its not to serious." Huey said.
"Yeah let's hope." Dewey agreed, through deep down he was certain that wasn't true. He just hoped he was wrong.
Soon the kids got picked up and they went to the hospital. They were currently in the waiting room, waiting to hear word on Louie. They had been there for about a little over an hour now and everyone was beyond worried.
Della was sitting in a chair , lost in her own thoughts. Why did this happen? Is Louie okay? Why haven't they heard anything yet? She couldn't stop worrying about her son. She needed to know if he was okay.
Donald looked at his sister. He could tell she was extremely worried about Louie. Not that he could blame her, he was too. Donald got up from where he was sitting and went over and sat next to Della.
"You okay? " He asked although he was sure he knew the answer.
"No...This is all my fault..." Della mumbled.
Donald was shocked to hear this "What? We still don't know what happened. How in the world could this be your fault?"
"He...He tried telling me he didn't feel good...but...but I didn't believe him ...I just accused him of faking it..." Della said sadly with guilt in her voice.
"Della...you didn't know. Not of us did and in your offensive, Louie does have a tendency of faking being sick to stay home." Donald told her.
"Still... I should have at least checked...but I didn't and now look at where we are." Della sighed.
"Don't blame yourself. Its not your fault, you couldn't have known that this would happen."
"Yeah if you say so."
After what seemed like a eternity, a nurse finally came into the waiting room. The Duck family along with Webby, Beakley and Lanchpad were now the only ones in the room. Everyone turned to look at her , knowing she must have news on what happened to Louie.
"Can I speak to the family of Llewellyn Duck?" She asked.
Della quickly shot out of her seat and went to the nurse "Yes, Im his mother! What's wrong with my boy?!"
"We're still waiting on some test results, we don't want to give a diagnosis until we know for sure. " The nurse explained "However he is conscious now so if you like to go see him, you can."
"Of course we would." Della said.
"Alright come with me." She said before taking them back.
Everyone got up and followed. They were happy to hear that Louie was now up and they were able to see him. However no one knew why this had happened still , which worried them.
They got to the room Louie was in and saw him laying in the hospital bed. Della frowned at the sight, its a sight no mother ever wants to see. Louie noticed his family and friends come in and turned his head to look at them.
"Hey guys..." He said still a little confused about what happened.
"Hey buddy, how are you feeling?" Della asked.
"My head hurts like crazy but other than that, fine."
" Oh Louie I'm so sorry. I should have believed you this morning." Della told him.
"Its fine but what happened exactly? How'd I get here?" He asked.
"Louie, don't you remember what happened?" Huey asked.
"Not really. ...all I remember is being at lunch then waking up here."
"Louie...you passed out at lunch today. No one knew what was wrong with you. We were so worried." Dewey explained.
"Oh... . I guess that explains why I'm here. Why'd I pass out? "
"We're not sure yet, they are still waiting on some test results." Della answered.
"Oh ..." Louie said not know what else to say. Its not everyday you wake in the hospital after all.
"Are you sure you're okay? It was pretty bad." Huey said.
"Yeah...yeah. I think so anyway, was it really that bad?"
"Oh you have no idea." Webby told him.
"Im sorry...I didn't mean to worry you..." Louie mumbled.
"Louie...you have nothing to be sorry for. It's not like you asked for this." Della said.
"Yeah but..."
"You're mother's right lad, there's no need for you to feel bad." Scrooge told him.
"Yeah we're just glad you're okay now." Donald said.
"Alright.." Louie said.
For the next 40 minutes or so the group just talked with each other. They were still waiting on the test results , everyone hoped it wasn't anything serious. A doctor then came into the room. He pulled Della aside.
Della got a worried look on her face when talking to the doctor, which didn't go unnoticed.
"Beakley , why don't you and Lanchpad take the kids to the cafeteria and get them anything they want." Della told her.
"Alright will do." Ms Beakley said.
"Wait...why? What's wrong?" Dewey asked.
"Dewey please..." Della begged.
"No! What's wrong?! Why do we have to go?! I want to know what's wrong with my brother!"
"Dewey maybe we should listen to your mom." Webby said before grabbing his hand trying to calm him down.
Dewey felt Webby grab his hand and couldn't help but fell calmer. He smiled a bit before sighing "Fine, but you better tell us soon as as we get home."
"Alright...deal." Della agreed.
With that Beakley and Lanchpad took the kids out of the room, leaving only Della , Donald and Scrooge. Donald was now beyond worried , something really must be wrong if they didn't want the kids or Beakley and Lanchpad in the room. Scrooge felt the same way, he couldn't even imagine the news they were about to get.
"Della, what was that about?" Donald asked.
"Im sorry but we wanted as few people in here as possible. A large group would only add on to the stress of the news." The doctor spoke up.
"Why? What's wrong?" Louie asked , concerned.
"Well you see...there's no easy way to say this but all the test results are clear as day. It seems that Llewellyn here has pineoblastoma..."
"Pineo blast what now?" Della asked confused.
"Pineoblastoma..." The doctor said " Its...its a type of brain tumor that developes on the pineal gland on the brain."
"Wait, are you saying Louie has brain tumor?" Scoorge asked.
"Im afraid so... Im so sorry."
No one could process what they were just told. How could Louie possibly have a brain tumor? It didn't seem right. It seemed like a horrible dream. This wasn't fair, why did this have to happen?
"I...Is it treatable? " Della asked.
"It depends on the case, in most cases yes but it all depends on the size of the tumor and how treatment goes..."
"What about in Louie's case?" Donald asked.
"We're not completely sure yet honestly. We still need to determine a few things before we will."
Della's world came crashing down. Louie has a brain tumor. This wasn't fair, he didn't do anything to deserve this. Why did this happen to him? Della could only hope that this could be treated. She couldn't imagine losing one of her sons.
