Both Velvet and Phrona are twin sisters of the SER O class; they both have six driving wheels and a six wheels tender each. To them apart, Phrona was painted a bleak sleek black color with yellow lining while Velvet was painted a fine, lilac color with purple lining. Despite early seeing each through the day, the two care deeply about one another and often worry for each other.
A few days ago, Vivi accidentally ran into Phrona's train at Leafbridge, sending her into a state of shock. She was eventually back on her wheels and something has changed. Phrona now takes a cautious approach and is always looking out for any runaway train. This makes her train slow and her often late, which meant less trains are being deliver to and from places.
To make up for lost time, the triples, Cora, Belle and Kate, have been tasked with doing some of the goods work. Belle didn't mind the change, but the other did, especially Kate.
One morning, Kate was at Flarton where workers was loading packages onto her train. It was two hours in and Kate was rather impatient.
"Ugh! Can we speed this up, driver?! I haven't touch a single coach today," Kate complained.
"Listen, Kate. These goods are fragile. They need to be loaded carefully," her driver argued.
"Ah, who cares about some fragile doohickies? They are not of importance to fabulous engine such as myself," Kate proclaim as she biff the trucks behind her very hard. So much so that some of the boxes still inside have fallen and its contents smashed into smithereens. Her face then went as red as her paintwork.
Just then, Velvet arrived with her goods train.
"So, you still haven't gotten your anger check?" She teased.
"Oh, shut it!" She replied harshly. "It's your sister's fault that I have to take these dirty trucks everywhere. She's so worry about being in another accident that she practically became a shut-in!"
"Look, she may not be in a sound state of mind at the moment, she's trying her best to be really useful," Velvet said. But Kate remain unconvinced.
"Then tell her to stop being a scaredy cat and just move on, already!" Kate retorted. Velvet was cross but before she could reply, the guard blew his whistle and Kate left without saying another word.
Once she left, Velvet then thought about what Kate said. This worries her crew so they walk up to talk to her.
"Velvet, are you feeling alright?" her fireman ask.
"No... It's just that Kate's right. Phrona does need to stop being afraid of everything because of Vivi's accident but I don't if it's the right choice," Velvet explained.
"It's alright, Velvet," her driver said. "We'll think of something to cheer Phrona up."
Later that day, they found Phrona near a signal box. Despite the signal being green, she has not moved an inch. Her crew was arguing with her for the past hour and all Phrona could say to defend herself was nothing but excuses.
"Hey, Phrona. Are you feeling alright?" Velvet said as she came to a stop on a line next to her twin.
"Oh, yes. I'm fine. Very fine!" Phrona said in a frantic. "Nothing's wrong here. Just waiting for you to pass through. That's all."
"Listen, Phrona. I-"
"But don't you want to go ahead of me? Please, I insist."
"Phrona, this isn't like you."
"What are you talking about? I'm just being cautious, that's all," Phrona explained. But Velvet could see well through her disguise and look at her grimly.
"Phrona, please. Just look at yourself. You're not acting like yourself. It wasn't your fault, or anyone's fault. Accident happens," Velvet said. Phrona look down at her buffers and then at her twin.
"... So it wasn't my fault?" She asked.
"No. It wasn't nor was it Vivi's," Velvet said.
"Wow, I have been a very silly engine lately," Phrona said with a solemn expression.
"It's alright. Just don't try to be late again," Velvet said. The two then left together to reach the next station.
Once they arrived at Umburgh, they waited for their trucks to be unloaded. Once they were all set and about to leave, the foreman ran up to them.
"There will be heavy rain tonight," he warned. "I recommend you two go find shelter and fast."
"It'll be alright. We can take this load up to the nearest station," Velvet declare.
"Are you sure, Velvet? What if we get caught up in the storm," Phrona reasoned. But Velvet did not heed.
"Trust me, sister. If we work together, then we'll make it there before you know it," she said.
And so it was settled. Velvet's train was coupled up to back of Phrona's and Velvet was coupled up to Phrona's front. Just as they were about to go, the skies soon darkened.
"Are you sure this will work?" Phrona ask, worryingly.
"I'm positive," Velvet assures. And so the two set off on their way just as she and Phrona make their way to Espmouth.
They hoped for a peaceful trip but as they trek through the grasslands, it soon started to rain. Soon some of the tracks became flooded and Phrona's anxiety return to surface.
"Ah, Velvet. I think it's time to go back," Phrona said. But Velvet remained determined.
"We will make it. We will make it," Velvet told her twin.
Soon, they came across a rather large hill and Phrona became frantic again.
"Are you sure this is the way?"
"It is. Now, let's hurry!"
"But what if we overspeed and derailed at the other side?"
"We will be alright!" Velvet shouted as she puffed through the mountain. Because of Phrona's reluctance to go up, the train suddenly became unmovable. Phrona then realize that if she doesn't move along, then not only will they be wet, but then they will scolded and possible separated by the Cold Controller. She soon decides to heed Velvet's assurance and puff along with her soon.
It wasn't easy. The tracks were slippery and the twins had to be careful. The trucks were getting heavy and they were running out of dry coal.
"We need to hurry!" Velvet's driver shouted. "Or else we'll never get to the station in time."
"We will make it in time! We will!" Velvet declared.
"Yes we will! Yes we will!" Phrona repeated until the two finally made it over the hill. But as she suspected, the tracks were slippery and they were soon speeding down the mountain at an unsafe speed. They applied their breaks and with a stroke of luck, they stopped just before hitting the curve at the bottom. When they stop, Phrona let out a sigh of relief.
"Told you that was nothing to worry," Velvet said.
"You are certainly right," Phrona applaud. Soon the two went off to the Espmouth.
When they arrive, Velvet and Phrona were soaking wet. They were thankful for some of the local engines lending them some space in the sheds to protect themselves from the rain.
Later that night, Phrona spoke to Velvet.
"You really did help me out there," Phrona said.
"It's nothing special. Just looking out for my sister."
"How nice of you. I wish I could do the same to Vivi," Phrona said.
"It's alright. You can do it when we get back tomorrow," Velvet said.
"Really?"
"Yes," Velvet answered. "But then what about the triplets?" She asked, puzzled. "How will they feel about this?"
Phrona soon began to express worries of about the triplets and fear that one of them may have an accident. But she then think that it's all just in her firebox and that the triplets will never get into trouble. Little did she know that Kate was on the breaking point.
Author's Note: So, I'm likely to get complaints that this ending to Phrona's arc was way too rushed, especially considering it is only the second episode. Which is strange considering this has more words than the first chapter. But then again, these episodes more or less puts Phrona in a limelight in some way. Last episode, we have an inexperienced Phrona that was mostly normal. This episode, Phrona is now on high alert and is fearful of everything but is finally brought down to earth by her sister. The next episode will hopefully have Phrona trying to help Kate and her trucks, or something. I still don't an idea for the whole talk or anything relating to that, but I do have some ideas on what the episode will be about.
