Chapter 1: Nobody
Mumei Sanshiro sat down in the library of Shujin Academy during his lunch break. His short black hair being a little ruffled, and his black eyes focusing on what he was reading. He currently wore earphones to block out the noise of the people chatting around him to no avail.
"Of course, they're talking right near me again."
They speak of the sins you have committed under justice that failed you.
He could still hear faint whispers of the rumor loving high school students nearby. He couldn't make out what they were saying, but he knew what the topic was anyway. He usually ignored whatever they talked about anyway.
"It seems no matter where I go, people will find ways to haunt me."
You were betrayed by the very justice you believed in.
He quietly tried to focus on his book. He had hoped that by being in the library, near the student council president, would at least let people shut up. Sadly, that wasn't the case.
He sighs as he looks behind him. He could see faint outlines of people talking outside, making rumors about him.
"Guess it's about time I leave."
You're a coward who can't stand against those that scorn you.
He prepares to stand up but on the corner of his eye, he sees a student looking around for a place to sit.
He had messy black hair and wore glasses on his face. He kept looking around him and kept on looking down. He recognizes him as Akria Kurusu. The new student in his class and the one that sat in front of him.
Mumei took off his earphones and actually listened to what was around him.
"Hey, that transfer student's a criminal."
"I heard that he carries knives and guns in his bag."
"You think he could be yakuza?"
"Shhh, don't talk so loud he could stare right at us."
Mumei finally understood why it was extra noisy here in the library today. It wasn't him that was the focus, rather the new kid.
Five minutes pass and Akira couldn't find a seat and the people were beginning to get louder with their rumors.
The more Mumei looked at Akira, the more confused he was inwardly. Him? A Yakuza? That's something from a damn videogame. Where the hell did some of these rumors even come from?
He sighs to himself again. He shouldn't do this. He shouldn't do this. He shouldn't do-
"Hey, new kid." He calls out to Akira.
He did it.
Akira turns around and looks at Mumei.
"I got a seat right here. You can go and sit there." Mumei tells him.
"No I-"
"Look, will you take the seat or not? You've been here for five minutes looking for a seat."
Mumei stares at Akira before he finally relents.
"Thank you."
"Don't worry about it. In case they get too noisy, you can always pop out your earphones." Mumei says as he returns to his book.
"Isn't that not allowed?" Akira asks Mumei.
"It's fine. Not like the librarian gives a damn." Mumei says as he returns to read his book.
Akira looks at Mumei for a moment and says, "Akira."
"Hmm?" Mumei says looking up.
"My name's Akira Kurusu." Akira tells Mumei.
Mumei sighs again as though tired before replying, "I know. You sit in front of me. The name's Mumei. Mumei Sanshiro."
"Well then, it's nice to meet you Mumei." Akira greets politely.
"Hmph, same here." Mumei responds before returning to his book.
Akira does the same and brings out his own book that he borrowed, The Gentleman Thief.
This day in the library, two students sat down besides each other reading calmly as the whole world around them was judging them.
Take Your Time
It seems that school ended. Mumei caught Akira leaving school early. He decided it wasn't any of his business. He stayed until there was barely anyone in the classroom before he decided to leave. He stood up and noticed a book under Akira's desk.
It was the same book he was reading earlier.
"That moron. Don't just leave your damn books out in the open like that." Mumei muttered to himself. He got the book and placed it within his own bag.
"I'll return it to him when I see him."
Packing his things, he slowly got up and walked away. Before he could leave the school, he saw a girl trying to push a cart filled with heavy bags of dirt and soil.
"Ah. Haru-senpai" Mumei called out by accident.
The fluffy haired girl in question turned to see Mumei and smiled. Haru Okumura. The schools resident flower girl. Not many dared go near her for her for reasons unknown to Mumei.
"Ah. Mumei-chan! Perfect timing! Can you help me push these upstairs?" She asked politely.
Mumei sighed for the nth time today. He felt like he was getting old at the ripe age of sixteen with how many times he was sighing.
"Fine, fine. Here let me help." He began to roll up his sleeves and began to push the cart up with all his might.
Holy shit this is fucking heavy.
This was somewhat a daily routine with Mumei. He was a known do-gooder to some people and they always ask him for help.
Some being the keyword.
Others don't think of Mumei so highly after the incident he had with other people last year. In fact, they outright despise him. Making him one of the school's many black sheep.
In the end he didn't mind it. Not what others think of him anyway. He was fine with being a nobody. But there are some select few that he outright despises.
"Ough."
"Omph.
And he just so happened to bump into one of the shitty ones.
"Ah Mumei-san. You seem to be working hard huh?" Kamoshida Suguru asked him.
Look at him. Look at this bastard in the eye. Look at the sins he placed on you and laughed while you suffered. Place your hands around his neck. Kill him. Kill him! KILL HIM!
"Yeah. Got that. Sorry for bumping into you." Mumei said before continuously pushing the cart to the rooftop. He wanted nothing more than to stay away from that asshole.
Traitor.
Traitor!
TRAITOR!
"Hey Haru-chan. I see you're still gardening." Kamoshida said with a shitty attempt to flirt with Haru. With no doubt attempting to go what's under her clothes.
"Hello Kamoshida-sensei. If you'll excuse me, I have to go." Haru said, bowing politely and running off to follow Mumei as the both headed upstairs.
"Tch." Kamoshida gritted. Well that was one failed attempt from him. But she wasn't who he was gunning for. He'll bide his time though; he'll get her soon enough.
Take Your Time
"Thank you for doing this Mumei-chan!" Haru thanked politely as he dumped the last bag of soil near her own personal garden.
Panting heavily, he falls near the door and says, "No problem. No problem. Just give me a few minutes to rest and I'll be on my way."
It took him a little bit to get all that soil and dirt up there. It was a miracle in of itself for him to be able to breathe. It's like he exercised at the gym.
"Oh. Ok. I'll be here watering my plants then." Haru said as she turned around and began to water.
Then there was nothing but silence between the both of them as they each did their own thing. One wanting to do nothing but rest and go home, while the other unsure of what to say or do with the other nearby.
Sure enough, after a few minutes of rest, Mumei stood up and began to open the door to leave.
"I'll take my leave Haru-senpai. Good luck taking care of the plants." Mumei said before closing the door.
"Ah, thank you for helping me!" Haru thanked again before the door was closed, leaving her alone with her plants.
But as Haru returned to water her plants, she noticed something by the door.
It was a wallet.
"Oh my. I have to return this to him."
She stopped watering her plants and went down to chase him.
Mumei managed to reach the main staircase when he saw Akira talking with a blonde delinquent. The blonde seemed to have snatched the phone from Akira, but it didn't seem like foul play. More like a playful sort of snag wherein he'll just browse through the phone and return it after he's satisfied going through the photos.
He recognized him. Ryuji Sakamoto. Fellow black sheep and hater of Kamoshida. The "Track Traitor" by the words of Kamoshida but not by Mumei's standards.
He talked with Ryuji from time to time, but he wouldn't go as far as to call him a friend. Just an acquaintance more likely. However, Ryuji looked up to Mumei as a friend. After all, who would talk to someone like himself?
Remembering he got the book of Akira he decides to return it then and there.
"Yo! Kurusu-san. You left your-"
"Beginning Navigation."
"Wha-"
"Huh?"
"Mumei-sa-?"
And the world around them began to alter. However, few of them noticed the girl that saw them disappear from this world.
AN
I gave up on all my old stories. I can't seem to do my ideas justice. And here I go writing a new one based on Persona.
For the record, there are elements on Mumei that I used that are heavily inspired by Fate if not downright copying a few things. But at the same time, I don't feel like this story has the right to be called a crossover as it's just a few elements of a few characters mixed into one guy. A lot of that can be seen in some original characters.
Also, the reason I use Mumei as an OC name is because I can never come up with a proper name for any original characters. So, my character is still technically nameless.
I'll see how far I can go with this one. Critique me please.
I do hope you all have a nice day.
