They were in the middle of R.O.A.R practice, and everything had been going fine. Jay partnered himself with Carlos, since the boy was not the strongest when it came to sports, but he was quick and that counted for a lot. They were running a play when something happened. Carlos began fighting with more aggression. At first Jay just thought he was putting more into each swing, but then he realized that Carlos was not holding back. He was not playing a game anymore. The other players were still fighting, not paying any attention when Carlos set his sights on another, Aziz. Carlos knocked him down waved his sword hard towards his teammate. Aziz was able to roll out of the way, but the loud clang against the ground made him jump.
"Carlos, stop!" Jay yelled, taking off his helmet.
Everyone was watching now, and Jay realized that Carlos had no intention of stopping. He saw that as his cue to jump in and grab the white haired boy. He pulled him away as the team stared in shock at the very angry looking Carlos, who now had his helmet off.
"Practice is over!" Jay got in front of Carlos and held his shoulders. "What's going on with you?"
Carlos shoved him back. "Nothing. I was just playing the game like everyone else."
Jay gave him a look. "You took it a little further than that."
Carlos seemed to be struggling with himself for a moment before yelling out loud. "Just shut up!"
Jay's eyes widened a little bit at the sudden outburst. Carlos shook his head and backed up against the wall where he had almost crushed Aziz. He crouched down and put his head in his hands. Jay came over and knelt down in front of him.
"What's going on?" His voice was calm.
Carlos looked at Jay with desperate eyes. "I-I can't. I have to go." He shot up and shoved past Jay.
Jay had no time to react as Carlos ran out of the gym. He was not sure what was going on with his friend.
As soon as Carlos ran out of practice, he knew he needed to find Mal. Only she could make this stop. Only she could make the voices get out of his head. He spotted her in the hallway and rushed up to her.
"Can I talk to you?"
Mal glared a little but nudged her head towards an empty classroom.
Carlos shut the door and looked at her with pleading eyes. "I can't do this anymore, Mal. This needs to stop, you're better than this. We chose good, remember?"
"And being good proved to be so boring." Mal rolled her eyes. "It's time to have a little fun in Auradon. We're bringing down the barrier and letting all the villains come out."
Fear welled up in Carlos. "I know you had fun on the Isle, but don't you remember how bad it could get? The fights, our parents? Your mom can't hurt you anymore, but mind can, and will if she ever sees me again."
"The world will be ours, Carlos. Your mother treated you like a slave, but once we're in control, she won't be able to anymore." Mal's eyes flashed green. She waved her hand, magically shoving Carlos against the wall.
He began to struggle as his air was cut off.
Mal took a step closer. "Now that being said, when this all ends, which side are you going to be on? A slave to me, living a lot like you did back on the Isle? Or ruling over this wretched place at my side?"
The voices began to get louder as Mal's eyes grew brighter. Carlos struggled to get his words out. "W-with you."
She let go. Carlos caught himself on the wall, preventing himself from falling to the ground as he sucked in as much air as he could.
"Good. Don't come to me again with this "good act" I'll need you soon." Mal shoved past him and left the room.
Carlos remained in the classroom trying to gain his bearings. This was getting more dangerous by the second, and now that he knew what Mal was planning, he knew he needed it to stop.

Ben was in his room reading. His door was open, which a lot of the students did when they did not mind being bothered. Chad walked by, but stopped when he saw the open door and popped his head in.
"Hey Ben."
Ben looked up from his book. "Hey, Chad. How's it going?"
Chad nodded. "Good, good." He looked around the hallway. "Do you mind if I come in?"
"Sure." Ben opened his hand inviting his friend in.
Chad shut the door behind him and leaned on Ben's bedpost.
"Something on your mind?" Ben put his book down and sat up.
"Yeah, I'm mean sort of, not really. It's just…have you noticed any of the VK's acting a little weird?
Ben gave him a confused look.
"Specifically, De Vil?
"Carlos? No, has something happened?"
"Well I think his mother's crazy isn't falling too far from the tree, if you know what I mean."
"Chad." Ben gave him a warning look.
"Hey, he's been acting really weird lately. The other day he was talking to himself in the hallway and then he shoved me against the wall. And today he almost took Aziz's head off in R.O.A.R practice. He's been acting mean, without being provoked. He's lost it."
Ben knew that even though Carlos was from the Isle, he really did not have an evil bone in his body. He was a bit wild; Ben knew that from the first few seconds of meeting him, but mean was something he would have never associated with the boy. He was quite timid most of the time and had an intense need to please others.
"Are you sure he wasn't provoked? Did you say anything to him?"
Chad looked a little offended. "Not a word, he just went nuts on me. And Aziz wasn't even his partner in practice. Carlos just went after him and wouldn't let up. Something is wrong with him, Ben and if we ignore this, then who knows what kind of evil thing he could be planning."
"Chad, come on. He's probably just going through something right now. He's not evil. I'll get to the bottom of it, alright? And if you notice anything else, please let me know. Thank you for brining this to my attention."
Chad nodded. "Just thought you should know, since you like them so much."
"I'll talk to you soon, Chad." Ben got up and showed Chad the door.
Even though Chad was a jerk, he would not have come to Ben if he was not worried. Ben had been so busy with all his Kingly duties he had not noticed anything going on. He needed to get back to his friends, and make sure he was there for them for whatever they needed.

Carlos had been pacing back and forth in his room for almost an hour. He was trying to decide what he should do about Mal. Dude's head followed him back and forth as he went from one end of the room to the other. Every time he thought about doing the right thing, the voices started screaming at him, sometimes to the point where he stopped and grabbed his head in frustration. He could not do it again. If he gave in, someone could really get hurt. He had to talk to someone. Evie was the safest bet. She was Mal's roommate, her best friend. She would understand what was going on and be on his side. She would know how to fix it.
He made his way to her room, scanning for signs of Mal. If she caught him trying to talk to anyone, he would be toast. He knocked on her door, and Carlos was relieved to see Evie answer. He peeked his head to see if anyone else, specifically Mal, was there, but the room was empty.
"Carlos?' Evie stood in the doorway waiting for Carlos to say or do something.
"I need to talk to you." He rushed in and shut the door behind him, locking it.
Evie gave him a concerned look. "What is it?"
Carlos was not sure how to start, but then the words began to spill out. "It's Mal. Something's happened; it's like this dark force is inside of her, taking over, and she did something to me, and now I'm hearing these voices, and they are telling me to do really terrible things, but I don't want to, but I'm not sure I can help it."
Carlos was out of breath when he stopped rambling. He said everything so fast, and in one sentence he was not sure Evie caught half of what he had said.
Evie gently grabbed him by the shoulders and knelt a little, so they were eye level. "Breathe, Carlos. Just calm down, everything will be fine."
"I don't think you understand. Mal wants to break down the barrier. Cause chaos. Release everyone from the Isle. That means out murderous parents!"
"You have nothing to worry about, sweetie." She rubbed her hand through his hair, causing him to flinch back.
"You don't like that do you? Is it because Mommy dearest used to do that?" She reached again, but he pushed her hand away.
"She got you too." Carlos took a step back in slight defeat.
Evie smiled. "Got me? You mean reopened my eyes."
Carlos shook his head. "Evie…"
Her smile turned into a sneer. "You weren't supposed to tell anyone, Carlos. That means you'll have to be punished."
Carlos took another step back. "Stop it."
"I guess it could wait if you can get me everything on this list." She handed him a piece of paper. "Or we can bring Mal in here, and she can decide what to do with you."
Carlos stared for a moment before taking the paper. "Fine, I'll do it."
"Good dog." She patted his head again, causing a chill to go down his spine.
She got Evie. Carlos could not believe it. He should have expected it really, they shared a room after all. He wondered if she grew suspicious, or if Mal just went after her like she did him. He had to get out of there, and taking the list was his only way. Carlos looked at it and knew he would have to steal a lot of stuff, but he could not tell what the girls were up to. He wanted no part in this, but the voices were screaming at him to steal.
Steal Carlos.
You know you want to.
It will be fun.
Do it.
Just leave me alone!
"Sorry, I just wanted…I'm sorry."
Carlos snapped back to reality to see Jane walking away. She must have come up to him while he was struggling with the voices in his head. Maybe even asked if he was alright, and now she thinks he wanted nothing to do with her. Carlos' heart sank knowing that he just hurt Jane's feelings. The voices would not stop though, not even for a second. He had to give into them. Carlos headed to the chemistry lab where most of the materials on Evie's list was. He snuck in and began swiping everything he needed. He was in and out pretty fast, but when he left the classroom, Ben was standing there with his arms crossed.
"Did you just steal from the lab?"
Shit. Carlos realized being in Auradon had made him lose his touch. "No."
"Then why did I just see you slip a bottle of chemicals into your pocket?"
Carlos was glad that was all Ben saw. "So, what if I did?"
The boy tried to get past Ben, but he blocked his way. "You know if you need something, you can always just ask…Is everything alright?"
Carlos only gave him his ever-popular blank stare.
"Because if it isn't, you can talk to me."
Could he tell Ben? Carlos' face faulted for a moment, but then the voices returned.
He'll send you back.
His face turned callous again. "I'm fine." He pushed past the King, letting a smirk appear as he slammed into his shoulder.
Ben was taken back by this. "Carlos! You need to put that bottle back!"
"Sure!" Carlos kept walking.
Ben had no idea what was going on with Carlos, but it really worried him.
