Zaris' POV
The next morning, I woke up in my new dorm. I was with Rubi and another monster that we haven't talk to yet. I am just waiting until dark to get to class. According to the guidelines, we're supposed to go there before dark. We just hung out in our dorm for a little bit and it feels like we've been here for years coming.
"Do you know what time our class starts?" Rubi asked me. "I feel like we are not going to class any time soon."
"I would guess it would be probab-" Zaris was cut off when Ickis came in the room.
"Its at 6pm tonight. All of Gromble's instruction is always that time." Ickis told Rubi. "How's life so far. cuz? I've been here for years now."
"Oh, good so far. My siblings are in different rooms so it's just me, Rubi, and another monster." I was multitasking grabbing my mask and talking to my cousin.
"Where is that other monster, Zaris?" Rubi asked me. "I'm curious to know who that is."
"We'll know by the end of the day hopefully. I'm more curious than see who the Gromble looks like." I had an imagination that the Gromble looks cool looking. Way more curious than seeing what the assignments are going to be like according to Ickis.
It is now lunch and we get a lot of garbage we could get only by the chefs. I only sat next to Rubi and Etch due to my shyness. Also, I get to observe what my siblings get and interact. I do worry about them every single day during this time.
"We didn't get very much as we expected." Etch was looking at his plate.
"You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit." Is what the chefs said to us.
"I'd rather go to the dump to eat more of this than here." Etch told us while telling us there's a garbage pile right outside. "I'm not eating here anymore."
"Etch, come on. It's food required before our first lecture." Rubi tried to tell him.
"Let him get in trouble. We know how Oblina was when she ate garbage that she got a parasite." I tried to tell Rubi, but Etch just got extremely mad.
"I know that. I just wish Etch would listen for once. We're supposed to eat this." I said as Etch grew his anger even worse.
"Etch calm down. We're supposed to eat this before our first lecture." Rubi started getting worried.
"Hey you, quit throwing a fit, nobody wants to see you get angry." One of the chefs saw Etch and he got mad angry with them. "Get a load of this hunks: this monster student is throwing a fit over how much garbage we give everyone. I bet he wants to get snorched if he doesn't obey all of the rules~!"
Snorched? Never have I never heard of that word at all. My uncle, Slickis mentioned it all the time, but he never told me or any of us what it was, except Ickis knows what it is. I walked over to Malina, my twin sister who is enjoying her time with the popular monsters.
"Say, you must be having so much fun, sis." I smiled. "Did our uncle tell us what that word, 'snorched' is? If you know it?"
"Hey sis, I actually don't know what that means. I heard Ickis say it too."
"Darn! I have to find out what that means." I walked back to Rubi. "Do you guys know what that word means?"
"Actually no. I heard it's a punishment if you do bad." Rubi tried to tell me.
"Well, I tried. Thank you for helping but I guess we'll find out soon." I sighed.
I saw Ickis, Krumm, and Oblina walk right past and well, Ickis came to see me and how I was doing.
"Who's my wonderful cousin from another dump?" He playfully asked as Oblina and Krumm waved.
"I am!" I shouted. "But I do have a question to ask you."
"Go for it, I'm all ears."
"Do you guys know what 'being snorched' means?"
"To tell you the truth, uhhhhh, it is a very bad punishment if you disobey orders, like whatever the Gromble orders all of us to do. Snorch is the very tall monster who will do things to give you the 'NOOOOOOOOOOO' and sometimes it might give you entertainment. Zimbo is his right man. You'll see when you go in for your first lecture tonight."
"Icky, remember when we got snorched? I felt so scared after we did get it." Oblina came to us and talked with us about it.
"Hmm... I remember that. I wasn't feeling it afterwards." Krumm too came.
"Speaking of time, what time is it?" I asked.
"It's only 5. We got time in our sleeves." Ickis said.
"Well, Rubi and I are about to head back to our dorm. I must grab my essentials of my assassin duties to impress the Gromble." I totally will impress the Gromble. I got my swords and my scarf up in my sleeves. This'll be a good first day, for me at least.
"At least you guys will be well prepared for this. I'm cheering you wonderful cute monsters on." Oblina was extremely happy for me, as we waved "See you at lecture tonight" as Rubi and I went back.
"Is that what I hear?" Rubi thinks he heard a monster he's never heard of before. He opened the door and he saw the monster in their dorm. This monster looked like he was exhausted and wanted to rest up until lecture. He had a hat with sharp claws that was from the dumpster, a big tail to give stench to while scaring humans, and he looked so curious on why me and Rubi are here.
"Hello." He said.
"Um, who are you?" I started to question the monster on why he was here. "Where's PC?"
"Oh, that dude? I heard he's been missing. No need to get frustrated but this room got assigned to me along with you guys. I'm Maliox, one of the new monster students starting out."
"Maliox, eh? I thought it was a monster named PC." I rest assured myself. "How come you got moved to us?"
"When I came in, I was told to move to another room, so I did."
"Oh really?" I didn't think it would be bad. "Where did you get your sharp things on your hat from?"
"Oh these? From the dumpster. I didn't have them before but now I do. I attached them to my hat."
"Everyone gets everything from the dump." I was just trying to be plain funny. "Oh, if you see these weapons, they're not for hurting, they're for scaring humans." I put my weapons somewhere else.
"Hey, I didn't quite catch both of your names." Maliox questioned.
"I'm Zaris, the assassin in the making and I have a cousin and 2 siblings who go here."
"And I'm Rubi, I love my horns, but we gotta make our way over to the lecture hall."
"You guys mind if I sat with you guys tonight?" Maliox asked. It seems he doesn't have any friends because he's fairly new."
"Of course, man. Why wouldn't we not accept you?" I said with a smile.
Maliox, Rubi, and I started heading to the lecture hall. We see so many monsters come, and they all sat somewhere in the seats. I see Ickis, Oblina, and Krumm in the second front, Malina in the back with all the popular monsters, Hondomirian and his best friend, Majuare sitting in the front to pay attention, and there's also monsters I have never seen before. We all started talking to see what has been going on. Topics ranged between school days, where PC could've gone, and where the monsters want to do when they grow up.
"ATTENTION PLEASE!"
That was the sound of the Gromble making his appearance. He has hair sticking out from his sides, two eyes that look like a snail's or a slug's, and he's got hair on his chest, as well as he's got four feet wearing high heels.
"Oh snap, that's what he looks like?" I whispered. "I thought he'd be extremely cool. Wow, just wow."
"Welcome back to class everyone, your faithful Gromble here."
"Hey Zaris, look over there." Rubi pointed at Snorch and Zimbo up top. "I think this has to be related to snorching thing that you were talking abo-"
"SILENCE!" The Gromble immediately cut off Rubi while he and I were discussing about snorching quietly. "And who might you be, Demonic one?"
"Uh… Uhhhhh.." Rubi was really shy talking in front of the class. "I'I'm Rubi..."
"Rubi, now's not the time to talk right now while giving out IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION!"
Rubi sank under his seat.
"Dude, are you okay?" I asked. "I feel like you might've scared my roommate, your highness sir." I said as the Gromble ignored me.
"So, I will giving out your first assignment and you BETTER MAKE SURE YOU SCARE HOW YOU SCARE." Gromble really is serious.
"That's tough, now I gotta figure out how to come up with a good scare." Etch was up front and just trying to make sure he will get this right or wrong.
"Oh boy! I'm so excited! Can't wait for us 3 to be back together scaring again!" Ickis felt excited to scare again as they knew what to do.
"Uh, Zaris, what is that machine?" Rubi asked as he came back from sinking from his seat.
"That I don't kno-" I was cut off by the Gromble.
"Why that's the machine where we play all of what you did to scare. We will be using it AND ITS FOR A GRADE."
"Wait, I have a question, your Grombleness." I tried to grab his attention because this question for this assignment came into my head.
"Go ahead."
"So we have to find ways to scare humans? And afterwards tomorrow night we show it off so the whole class?"
"Why yes, YES WE DO."
"Okay perfect." I was talking to myself, as I got my weapons in my satch. "Is this supposed to be an everyday thing?"
"Everyday."
"Ooooff. I think I can deal with that. Can there be collaboration between all of us?"
"As long as your scare is up to MY standards."
"Tough, uh," I had no other words to say.
"Class dismissed."
As the Gromble dismissed all of us, we had to come straight back to the dorm.
"Hey guys, can you help me with my scaring?" Maliox was laying down while he asked.
"Of course. The Gromble did say we can collaborate, as long as its up to his standards..." I just repeated back what he said.
"So tomorrow around noon, we can go around town and find a place with lots of humans to scare to impress the Gromble." Rubi suggested to us. "Its plenty of time to help Maliox with his scare tactics."
"It's settled. We're going to help you, Maliox." I said cheerfully. "I'm figuring out how to scare humans too so it isn't new for me."
"Oh thank you Zaris and Rubi. You guys are so kind. I've never had people this supportive to me." Maliox is trying to stay happy as they transition to going to sleep so they can wake up to go out to scare humans.
"Oh well, good night guys, hope we do good tomorrow. After all, we are following the curfew, so we don't get snorched." I said.
"Good night, Zaris, Maliox." Rubi started falling asleep. So did I and Maliox.
I currently love monster academy already. Now to figure out how to scare for my first assignment from the Gromble.
