It's time for the second chapter and our boys are headed to Hoenn! But first reviews:
Engineer1869: Yup that is the same dog from Read All About Ed, it being a Jack Russel terrier was a slight reference to Rainbow Rocket Edscendant. I'd figure that Eddy's parents would want him out of the house and not scamming for the summer.
Guest (BTW please give yourself a nickname for future reference): The elemental monkeys won't make the Eds team they're not in ORAS and I just don't really like them sorry, Rotom is cut for the same reason, it's unobtainable in ORAS, Casey will make some sort of an appearance, but where it and another capture will be found will change slightly. As for the Beldum, while i'm not including event Pokemon it's not off the table ;p
The next morning was eventful for Double D, waking Eddy and Ed was a task enough but making sure they wouldn't wake up the other Cul De sacs was extremely tough, especially with Ed being half asleep, eventually reaching the hotel where Birch stayed the night.
After meeting up with the professor the group then took a taxi to the airport and eventually boarded their plane.
When they were on the plane Ed and Eddy immediately went to sleep in their seats due to waking up extremely early.
Meanwhile Edd was asking Professor Birch some unanswered questions from last night about being a trainer. Which the Professor answered easily to pass time.
Soon their plane touched down into Hoenn and after another short taxi ride the group made their way to the Professor's lab in a small town called Littleroot.
Once they were off the plane the Eds immediately felt a tropical vibe from this new country as it was much warmer than their home in Peach Creek.
Once the quartet were inside the lab, the Eds took in the sight of the research being done, as Professor Birch led them to a table with three small devices on it.
"I ordered these Pokédexes for my research, but I think you should take it. That Pokédex is a high-tech tool that automatically makes a record of any Pokémon you meet or catch. Think of it like an encyclopedia in the palm of your hands." Birch started to explain.
As he handed the Eds a device with their respective color, upon getting their pokedexes Eddy nonchalantly put his in his backpack, Ed was immediately entranced by the fancy screen and all the buttons and Edd was amazed that such a device could exist.
Edd beamed at the device in his hand. "A whole encyclopedia that I can fit in my pocket, amazing…" He said breathlessly as the Professor chuckled.
"Why thank you, your pokedexes come with a built in map and dexnav, it can tell you lots about the Pokémon living in each area and that kind of stuff. It's a handy app to have if you're trying to catch lots of different Pokémon." He continued before handing the Eds some basic supplies being some potions to heal their pokemon and 6 empty pokeballs for each of them.
"I suggest you boys head to Petalburg City, it's the closest gym and you can probably make it before dark, I wish you three luck on your quest, and keep me updated on your progress." Birch finished with Eddy giving the professor a thumbs up.
"Don't worry Prof. we'll be fine! Come on boys, I want to earn my first gym badge by tonight!" He cockily said leading Edd and Ed out of the lab with the other two Eds waving the Professor goodbye.
After the Eds left the building Birch smiled. "Those boys may be weird, but I can see bright futures for each of them, however they have to really earn it."
Now on route 101, the Trio were wandering through the tall grass, as Ed was still staring at his pokedex much to Eddy's chagrin. "Hey Ed won't you put that thing down? You've been staring at it ever since we got them!" He pointed out annoyed at the big Ed who didn't seem to care at all.
Double D decided to defend his big friend, "Well I think it's good that Ed is getting some education on this trip." Eddy rolled his eyes.
"He's just pressing the buttons and looking at the bright screen." He argued, Ed didn't hear this conversation as he ventured deeper into the tall grass until tripping over something.
"Did I get a game over?" He asked no one as he got up and in front of him was a small raccoon-like, quadruped Pokémon with bristly, zigzag-patterned fur. It seemed pretty energetic. "(Hey, what are you doing in my turf? Get outta here!)" It quickly said as it tried to look intimidating.
However this being Ed he was too stupid to be intimidated by this. "Hello little guy! Do you want to be part of my monster team?" He smiled as his pokedex pinged, causing the big Ed to stare at it in confusion.
"Do I have mail?" Ed said looking at the pokedex which showed a picture of the new pokemon. As a computerized voice spoke up, "Zigzagoon, the Tiny Raccoon Pokémon: Zigzagoon restlessly wanders everywhere at all times. This Pokémon does so because it is very curious. It becomes interested in anything that it happens to see."
"Cool!" Ed then put away his pokedex as Eddy and Edd caught up to him, "What the heck is that, looks like something that raids my trash cans!" Eddy commented as Edd was looking at the new pokedex entry he got.
"It is a raccoon monster and it shall be part of my team!" Ed proclaimed holding Torchic's pokeball in the air.
Double D decided to give his friend some advice. "Well Ed if you want to capture it, you should battle it first to weaken it. This demonstration would be good for the three of us."
Ed gave a small nod as he tossed out his starter. "Assist me flaming chicken!" When she emerged she preened herself before looking at her opponent.
"(Oh a battle already? At least he isn't hugging me with his Machoke hands.)" She shrugged before getting into a batting stance.
"(Yup! And I'm gonna make you regret going into my turf!)" The Zigzagoon growled making Torchic feel a little unnerved.
"Ed you should order an attack, your Pokedex should tell you what you have in your moveset." Double D lectured as Ed did as he was told and looked at his device.
"This Torchic is female, it's Lv.5 and knows the moves Scratch, Growl, and Ember." Ed quickly looked it over and decided to make his first move.
"Chicken use your scratch to damage the Raccoon!" Torchic nodded before running up to the zigzagoon and clawing it with her talons, much to it's annoyance.
"(Geez that hurt!)" The Small raccoon rubbed it's sore face as Torchic smiled at the successful attack.
"(Hey if you're gonna be part of our team, you're gonna get used to pain.. Acreus knows I have learned that.)" She cringed as she remembered Ed's crushing hugs.
The Zigzagoon growled. "(I'll show you pain!)" It ran forward slamming into Torchic knocking her back a little bit which frightened Ed. "No! Stay strong my chicken!" He cried before looking at his pokedex for another attack he could use.
"Use your ember attack to burn the raccoon!" Ed ordered, Torchic took a deep breath and spat a small ember of flame which upon landing on it burned the small racoon making it run in circles trying to put the fire out.
"(Hot hot hot!)" It yelped as it started to get tired from the damage it was taking along with it running around quickly which Double D noticed. "I think it's a perfect time to throw a pokeball if you want to catch it Ed." He advised as Ed nodded.
"Become part of my team, small raccoon monster!" Ed said tossing a pokeball and once it tapped on the panicking Zigzagoon and sucked it in and closed, when it landed on the ground, it shook three times before clicking, signifying a capture.
"Hooray I caught a raccoon monster!" Ed said holding the pokeball up in the air as Eddy started to move on from the battle. "Good, now let's go! We've got to get to that Petalburg place!" He ordered as the group moved deeper into the tall grass.
Later the group made their way into another battle against a small wolf pokemon as Double D stepped up to battle it, however Eddy pushed him aside. "Hold on Sockhead, this one looks interesting you mind if I capture it?"
While he was a little annoyed Double D nodded. "While pushing me was rude, if you want to capture it, be my guest."
Nodding Eddy picked up Treeckos pokeball and sent him out. "(I'm finally being used in a battle, took you long enough.)" He said, crossing his arms towards the Poochyena who had a sly smirk on its face.
"Use pound to weaken it!" Eddy ordered. Treecko smiled as it ran towards the small wolf and slammed it's palm down onto it, hurting it a little.
What happened next was something the quartet didn't expect, with a poof of smoke the wolf was replaced with a small black fox with red tufts of fur. "(You ruined my disguise you jerk!)" She scratched Treecko who was still surprised by that reveal.
"It's a Spy!" Ed cried as Eddy's pokedex pinged as he looked at the entry. "Zorua, the Tricky Fox Pokémon: To protect themselves from danger, they hide their true identities by transforming into people and Pokémon."
"Not bad, It's honestly better than a wolf!" Eddy mused shutting his pokedex. "Treecko use absorb!" Nodded Treecko closed his eyes as he started to glow a green energy and started to suck green energy from the Zorua.
Once it went back into Treecko the green glow disappeared as his scratches were healed. Zorua meanwhile seemed a bit weaker.
"Alright let's see if this works!" Tossing a pokeball at the illusionist it sucked in the Zorua and after three shakes Eddy caught the illusionist.
"Sweet, not bad for a first capture, you did well Treecko!" Eddy complemented his starter who simply nodded as a response before being returned.
As the Eds continued forward, they eventually reached a nearby town called Oldale. It was just as small as Littleroot, if a little bit bigger. However there was a red building that Double D wanted to check out.
"So what's that building for Double D?" Eddy asked, eating an apple he got from his backpack.
"It's a healing center, we might as well start using them if we're gonna be traveling for a long time." Edd lectured as Ed smiled.
"Checkpoint!" He blurted out as they entered the pokemon center.
When the trio walked inside they saw a nice lounge that had a couple of screens connected to phones, and standing at a desk was a young woman with pink hair and in a nurse outfit.
"Hi welcome to the Pokemon center, we heal your Pokemon back to perfect health!" She said the Eds placed their 5 pokeballs on the table as the woman put them in a small machine as the five pokemon were now displayed on a screen behind her as they were healed.
Once that was done she picked up the pokeballs and gave them back to the Eds. "Your Pokémon are happy and healthy, we hope you visit soon!" She smiled as the Eds left the place and started to leave town.
"You know when she says to visit soon, she wants us to get our pokemon hurt." Eddy mused as Double D glared at him.
"She is providing a service for free, you shouldn't take it for granted Eddy." He scolded as Ed saw something back in the town.
"What's that blue building Double D?" He asked as Edd took out his notepad with the notes he took from his conversation with the professor.
"That's a pokemart, it'll provide us with the necessary items required for our journey, we don't need any now, but we should check into the one in Petalburg when we arrive." He explained as Eddy had a thought.
"If it's a store then that means we need cash, how do we get that, now that's important." He greedily asked. Edd rolled his eyes but decided to explain.
"Well you need to earn it from winning battles with trainers, and if you lose a battle you'll have to forfeit half your money." Eddy eye's instantly widened.
"At least that gives me motivation to win, now come on we've got trainers to beat and cash to get!" Eddy smirked as he led the group into route 102.
It was almost dusk as the Eds traveled through the next route, defeating more Zigzagoon, Poochyena and the occasional Surskit making their pokemon just a little bit stronger .
With the experience from battling Double D's Mudkip learned mudslap and Ed's torchic learned Focus energy, both moves would be pretty useful in the future.
The group was almost out of the tall grass when Edd ran into a new pokemon, almost tripping over it due to the height of the grass."Oops, sorry about that Little one." He apologized as the pokemon straightened up.
"(It's alright, I was looking for food and didn't see where I was going.)" It said in a calm trance-like voice. It was a humanoid Pokémon with a white body resembling a dress, it had a green head with two red horn like intrusions on it.
"Hmm this seems interesting." Edd mused, taking out his pokedex which immediately gave him a description of it.
"Ralts, the Feeling pokemon: Ralts has the ability to sense the emotions of people. If its Trainer is in a cheerful mood, this Pokémon grows cheerful and joyous in the same way." After seeing that description, Double D found his first capture.
Turning to Eddy and Ed who were about to move further into the route, Double D called out to them. "Oh fellows, I'm going to capture a pokemon can you just wait a few minutes?" Ed turned around instantly, while Eddy was a bit more reluctant.
"Alright sockhead, make it quick, we've got places to go and trainers to beat!" He demanded as Double D nodded taking out his starters pokeball.
"Mudkip shall you assist me?" The water type starter was sent out looking ready to fight, "(Awaiting orders Double D!)" It nodded.
"(Take this!)" Ralts brought out a wave of psychic energy hitting mudkip making him cringe from the impact. "Let's use our newest move Mudkip, mudslap!" Double D ordered.
Mudkips tail grew a murky brown as it slapped the Ralts in the face soaking her body in mud, and while wasn't super effective it did have another reaction from the small psychic type. "(Yuck! Germs everywhere, it's on my skin!)" She shrieked, losing all of her composure and started flailing around.
"Wow Sockhead, it's just like you, a huge scaredy cat when it comes to germs!" Eddy chuckled as Edd rolled his eyes.
"Mudkip can you wash it off with watergun?"He politely asked his starter, who nodded at the request. With a small blast of water from his mouth Mudkip hosed down the Ralts much to her annoyance.
"(You know I could've just been given a towel or something..)" She huffed crossing her soaked arms as Mudkip chuckled. "(But where's the fun in that?)"
Taking the opportunity from the cease fire, Double D tossed a pokeball sucking in the moody pokemon and capturing her.
"Excellent, this should be useful for the future." He mused as he returned mudkip and joined Ed and Eddy as they went deeper into route 103.
As they reached the end of the route something interrupted the group's trek, "Hey!" a young voice called out. Turning around, the Eds saw a small boy walk up to them.
"What do you want, kid, we're kinda busy." Eddy rudely tried to wave him off as the boy seemed persistent to stay around them.
"You know when two trainers cross paths they have to battle." He remarked, holding a pokeball "And I challenge you guys!"
Edd looked at his notes and nodded to Eddy, "Well Eddy if you wanted to face off against trainers, this is your chance to do so."
Eddy rolled his eyes before getting Treecko's pokeball out. "Alright then, let's show 'em what we're made of Treecko!" He proclaimed tossing out his starter as the boy tossed his pokeball releasing a Zigzagoon.
Upon release Treecko stretched before noticing his opponent. "(Man another one? Honestly I'm getting tired of seeing these boring guys.)" He commented crossing his arms indifferently making the Zigzagoon look annoyed.
"(Wait, boring? I'll make you regret calling me that!)" The opposing Zigzagoon growled as his trainer gave the first move.
"Zigzagoon, start by lowering his attack with growl!" Nodding at the command it growled sending sound waves towards Treecko which hit.. But Treecko didn't react at all to his attack being lowered.
"(Wow, growl.. Let me guess you have tackle as well?)" He sarcastically yawned making the Zigzagoon even more angry.
"Alright Treecko, let's try to absorb some health from him!" Eddy commanded, nodding Treecko started to glow green and sucked green energy from the raccoon.
"Zigzagoon retaliate with tackle!" The boy ordered as Eddy took notice, "Use Pound to stop it!" He told Treecko who seemed to like that idea.
As Zigzagoon slammed into him with tackle Treecko countered by slugging him in the face with a pound with both mons getting a good hit in before being knocked back to their trainers.
However it was evident that Treecko was having a better time in the battle thanks to him looking less injured compared to his foe, who looked ready to faint.
"Alright Zigzagoon lets try one more Tackle!" The youngster nodded with his pokemon giving him a determined look despite his condition.
Eddy and Treecko still seemed ready to continue on and end this battle. "Dodge it and use Pound!" Eddy told his starter who got ready for the incoming attack.
When Zigzagoon ran forward to slam Treecko, the grass starter leaped up in the air and dodged the incoming attack as he retaliated with pound.
The youngsters Zigzagoon was knocked back before collapsing with swirls in his eyes as the Youngster reluctantly returned him.
Treecko crossed his arms. "(Yup, if you fought one zigzagoon you've fought them all.)" He mused as Eddy returned him.
The youngster walked over to Eddy with a wad of cash, looking annoyed that he had to do it. "Well you won, here's your money." which the short Ed snatched and counted the money.
"Thanks for your patronage to the bank of Eddy!" He smugly replied by putting the bills in his pocket.
Now pretty annoyed, the kid rolled his eyes and went back down the path to heal his pokemon. Double D saw this and wasn't amused by Eddy's behavior.
"Eddy that was kinda rude, that kid is a beginner like you and you have no right to mock him like that." He reprimanded.
Eddy seemed to ignore that. "Look sockhead, we're just battling for fun and cash, it's the law right?"
Double D groaned in annoyance. "Yes but you should be a good sport when winning and not act like Kevin when he wins."
That comparison actually got to Eddy making him sigh begrudgingly, while he hated when Double D was right, he never wanted to act like Kevin . "Fine, I won't act like shovelchin, but can you blame me, we just got some cash!"
"While obtaining some money is good for getting us some supplies. I hope this journey will make you reconsider your greed." Edd replied looking at his notes as Eddy pulled out some of his bills.
"Lighten up sockhead, when we get to Petalburg, the jawbreakers are on me!" He smiled, getting Eds attention as he slammed down on Double D.
"Jawbreakers Double D!" He said practically drooling with excitement and hunger. As Double D recovered from Ed's tackle and wringing his hat from drool, Eddy noticed something on the horizon.
"Hey I think that there's a Town in the distance! Come on boys, let's hurry up and get there before dark!" Leading the charge Eddy and his friends went down the route path getting close to the next step of their Hoenn journey.
