Ravenpaw stretched his legs out in front of him, he steadily crept out of the apprentices' den. his green eyes flicking from one side of the camp to the other, quietly and slowly stepping out of the den entrance. His black pelt bushing a little as he kept his senses keen and on alert, ears twitching and flicking from side to side.
"Are you ready for the morning patrol, my apprentice?"
Ravenpaw nearly jumped out of his fur, and he shied his face away from the massive dark brown tabby. "W-well…"
"No matter, you are on that patrol and you will be ready for it by the time it arrives, or starclan help me I-"
"Tigerclaw!"
Ravenpaw turned his eyes to watch as the tortoiseshell deputy made his way across towards the two cats, his smaller size did not sway him from Tigerclaw's gaze in comparison to Ravenpaw's still cowering appearance. "The three of us will be the only ones on the patrol today; we should try and make sure we avoid conflict as best we can."
"Of course, Redtail… Ravenpaw and I will be ready."
"Good, make sure you both get yourselves fed before the patrol, we are going to need our strength." Redtail meowed, casting a concerned look at Ravenpaw's still frightened frame. But Ravenpaw nodded his head quickly and decisively.
"Of course, Redtail." Tigerclaw responded, his head remaining tall and proud.
Redtail nodded, before turning away to move away from the cats.
"You heard the deputy, get yourself fed before the patrol." Tigerclaw growled, turning his back on the small black tom flicking his bushy tail.
Ravenpaw nodded and turned to walk towards the fresh kill pile, his eyes strained on the dark raven atop the pile of prey. He picked up his pace a little, it was nice and plump atop the pile and he licked his lips enticed by its growing aroma.
But tigerclaw beat him to it, snatching it up and carrying it away from the pile. Ravenpaw slowed down, and dug his muzzle into the pile in search for a meal.
He ended up picking a scrawny vole, and took a few paw steps back from the pile. Turning his tail and moving towards the tree stump at the near corner of the camp, Graypaw was sitting there already. The solid gray tom raised his head, and flicked his tail in greeting. Ravenpaw set down the vole down a tail length away from Graypaw's mouse, settling down beside the solid gray tom and began to nibble down on the mouse.
"So, you're on the morning patrol today." Graypaw meowed, half-heartedly smiling.
"Yeah… the patrol."
"Lucky, I bet you'll encounter some RiverClan warriors, I would shred their ears and rip off their pelts." Graypaw boasted, swinging strikes at nothing before him.
Ravenpaw looked right at his paws, his claws slightly digging into the claws. "Redtail said that we should avoid all conflict as possible, we are only three cats and wouldn't have much chance against a bigger patrol."
"Oh, well then that wouldn't be as fun…" Graypaw muttered, his tail settling down behind him.
Ravenpaw took another nibble of the mouse, tearing a little bit of flesh and fur from its bone thin frame. His eyes wandering up to his mentor who was sharing company with Darkstripe and Longtail on the far side of the camp, the dark brown tabby was giving Ravenpaw occasional glances from his meal. His teeth showing when he licked the mouse blood from his lips, a smirk spreading on his maw before turning tail and leaving the trio to wait by the camp entrance; his eyes remaining on Ravenpaw expectantly.
Ravenpaw ended up losing his meal, getting up to his paws and trudged towards the full grown warriors. His eyes falling back to his moving paws to avoid Tigerclaw's gaze, settling down and sat in silence beside his mentor as they waited for Redtail to join them. The tortoiseshell tom finished his meal and approached them. His distinct ginger tail moving slightly behind him, as the three of them dipped their heads before leaving through the camp entrance, Ravenpaw gazing back at the camp behind him as it disappeared behind the gorse entrance.
Ravenpaw fell in line behind the two warriors ahead of him, his black paws treading carefully along the narrow path the others were treading. They climbed over the slopes over the ravine walls, the blue sky shone the bright sun casted light, and shadows, upon the thick lush forest. Ravenpaw lowered his head as the patrol made their way down the slope and into the forest, making their way towards the RiverClan border.
Tigerclaw gazed back at his apprentice, his amber eyes narrowed and irritated. "Hurry up, Ravenpaw; we will not be dragged behind because of your ignorance!"
"Tigerclaw, remember that he is not as strong as us." redtail meowed over his shoulder at the dark brown tabby tom.
Tigerclaw heaved out a grunt, before turning his head back to what was in front of him. Ravenpaw felt gratitude towards Redtail, but he said nothing as he remained in the back.
Ravenpaw picked up the scents of RiverClan as they neared the border, his ears twitching as he heard movement in the undergrowth. His eyes switching from side to side, but they saw nothing that roamed. His nose searched to see if it was a mouse, but he only found faint scents.
The three cats kept up their pace as they moved closer to the border, closer to SunningRocks. Ravenpaw started to feel unease prick at his pelt, and his fur bushed slightly as he stared wildly at everything around him. then the warriors stopped suddenly, and Ravenpaw halted in his approach as he stood in a clearing a while away from the Sunning rocks.
Five, large, and intimidating RiverClan warriors stood there.
On ThunderClan territory!
