Shadow Magic

Chapter 1

Caster had spent the first few weeks gathering mana for the coming Holy Grail war. Caster noticed that someone had been cutting off some of her mana supplies. But it did not matter to her because there are more people in the city that she could take mana from so she let it go. She still had time to gather more mana since she was the first servant to be summoned and no other servants were in the city yet. Once the Holy Grail war begins, she will have to cut back on her mana gathering.

Caster also had Sakura to worry about she couldn't keep her in the temple forever. Caster also thought it was important to have Sakura go to school since education is needed for one to get through life. Caster planned to make sure no one could find her and take her away. She already had one of keeping Sakura safe which not to Caster's liking using a command seal to bring Caster to Sakura's side. Right now, Caster was making magic charms that would keep Sakura safe from being noticed be those affiliated with Tohsaka, Matou, and Kotomine.

"Caster had also made a magic resistance charm in case someone tried to use magic on her. Caster also made a enhance charm to make Sakura's other charms more powerful. Last but not lest Caster made a luck charm. Caster planned on taking away the luck charm from Sakura when she got older. With that Caster had one thing lift she could do to make sure Sakura was is to teach her magic. Sakura seemed to really want to learn so Caster didn't have to worry too much on talking the girl into it.

"It seems the poor excuse for a father isn't too bad a mage." Caster said while watching Tokiomi and Kirei putting a stop to one of her mana gathering operations.

After ending one Caster's mana gathering operations Tokiomi and Kirei went to the church where Risei Kotomine, Kirei's father was waiting. "It seems Caster is aggressive in their mana collecting aren't they." Risei said.

"Indeed, they are there more of their familiars in the city then there are for us to handle." Tokiomi said.

"Caster has retreated to Ryuudo Temple on Mt. Enzo." Kirei said.

"How is it out all the servants to be summoned first it's Caster." Risei said.

"There is no point in arguing over things that can not be undone." Tokiomi said.

"The temples defenses have been changed to what degree I can not say." Kirei said.

"We best leave Caster alone for now without servants of our own we don't stand against Caster." Tokiomi said.

The two-priest nodded in agreement after the topic with Caster was out of the way Tokiomi moved on to the next topic. "Have we discovered any new information on the incident at the Matou mansion?" he asked.

"Unfortunately, Zouken is proving intransigent to my request for information." Kirei said with disgust at the memory of simply talking to Zouken.

"I can't blame him secrecy is imperative in terms of magic. What of Sakura?" Tokiomi asked.

"He assures me she is safe, but he refuses to display her or disclose her location." Kirei said.

"Any thoughts?" Tokiomi asked.

"With the enormous damage to the mansion and Byakuya Matou's recent hospitalization for critical organ damage all point to a battle of magic one that Zouken lost, given his disposition when I spoke to him. It is possible that an enemy master broke in and stole his catalyst." Kirei said.

Worry started run through Tokiomi's thoughts "Zouken lost, but what if it wasn't just a catalyst they wanted, Sakura what have I done." thought to himself.
Granted Sakura's potential for magic wasn't advertised but there were ways information can get out.

"Is it possible that Sakura was also a target?" he said and both priest gasp.

"Zouken claims she is safe, but unless he has proof, I have to assume the worst. Kirei I need you to send out some tracers to find any sign of her." Tokiomi said.

"It will be done." Kirei said.

"And what will you do Tokiomi?" Risei asked.

"As the supervisor of this territory I will do what I can to keep Caster in check, and it seems I have to contact an old friend." Tokiomi said.

He grimaced at as he very well how he viewed mages and him in particular.

"I hope Kariya is in talking mood he could be useful right now."

Sakura was good mood today because she finally going to learn magic. Sakura had always wanted to learn magic since she found out she had the potential to use magic. Caster said that it would bitter not to let those who can use magic waste that potential by not learning magic.

Sakura was in the shared room with Caster with notebook and pen to take notes. Caster had some things to do she could start teaching Sakura magic. So, Sakura had to wait a few hours. Finally, Caster had returned "Are you ready to learn magic?" she asked.

"Yes." Sakura answered, her face light with excitement.

Caster had put up magic barrier to people from listening in on them.

"Now, lets start with the basics magic is first and foremost… "Caster said.

Kariya Matou, was sitting in a small apartment typing away on typewriter when the phone rang. He picks up the phone to answer it "Kariya Matou, speaking how my help you?" he answered.

"Kariya…" Tokiomi began, only to be interrupted at once.

"I have nothing to say to you." Kariya said. Before he could put it down Tokiomi managed to get in a few words that made his hand freeze.

"Sakura is missing." Tokiomi said.

"What?" Kariya said.

Kariya had always regretted leaving Aoi behind, especially after he found out that Tokiomi married her. But that didn't mean he didn't care for their or in his head Aoi's daughters. He wasn't the type of man to blame others for what wasn't their fault.

"Well his family and Tokiomi were exceptions"

"Apparently someone broke into the Matou mansion two nights ago. Given the damage and your father's disposition, whoever it was came out on top. While there's a chance that their goal was the Matou catalyst for the coming Holy Grail war, there is also the possibility that their goal was to get to Sakura." Tokiomi said.

"What do mean get to Sakura don't tell me…" Kariya said.

"I thought it obvious. Given she had no as a mage in our family, when your father offered to adopt her…" Tokiomi said, he was interrupted by Kariya.

"You basted. Do you realize what you've done? When, damn you? When did she go?" he asked.

"The same night the mansion was attacked." Tokiomi said.

"Kariya ran the possibilities through his head. On one hand, Sakura could have been kidnapped. On the other while there some mages that are assholes some were more decent than the Matous.

"Of course, Sakura would only be a breeding stock to them" Kariya thought to himself.

"What do you need me for? What would a powerful mage like Tokiomi Tohsaka need from renegade disgrace like me?" Kariya asked.

"False flattery will get you nowhere. As for why I need you, well Zouken claims Sakura is safe and in a secure location. However, I find that I cannot trust him with my daughter's safety in the wake of this exposure with regards to the weakness of Matou's defenses." Tokiomi said.

"What does that have to do with me?" Kariya asked.

"You grow up in the Matou household. You have insight into Zouken's mind that I do not have. And in worst case…" Tokiomi said interrupted by Kariya.

"You want me break news and to comfort Aoi and Rin? You cowardly piece of…" Kariya said interrupted by Tokiomi.

"Yes, and to the void with manners and propriety. And I would have thought you of all people, who have never hidden your hatred of your bloodline, would pass up the opportunity as I pay Zouken threefold for failing to protect my daughter." Tokiomi said.

Kariya fell silent, and after a few moments of satisfied grunt came from Tokiomi. "Well Kariya?" he asked.

"I'll get there as soon as I can. We'll have nice long chat, and then we'll look for Sakura." Kariya answered.

"Of course, thank you for your cooperation." Tokiomi said.

After Tokiomi hanged up the phone Kariya thought it funny since this was the first time Tokiomi had ever used a phone before. Then he got angry and roared "Damn you Tokiomi, Zouken!"
