Luigi packed quickly, he knew he couldn't take everything and wondered if this transfer was temporary and if it was how long? He didn't have time to dwell on it as he stuffed his bag full of things. As long as he was with Mario he could do anything. That had been his life long mantra and it hasn't failed him yet.
Soon enough he found himself outside of the tall doors that would lead to the throne room where they were to be briefed about their transfer. He could feel the excited energy from Mario as they waited to be officially summoned, it only added to his nervous energy, although he knew he was fine with his brother he couldn't help, but wonder exactly what this was going to be, Mario had proven time and time again that he had what it took to join special ops. Special ops mean special missions and that usually resulted in high danger involvement. He would feel much better after this conference with the princess.
"Where do you suppose we will be transferred?" Luigi asked Mario in a hushed whisper. He had learned very early on that the castle walls had ears that listened inventively well.
"I hope it is in the west most of the border." Mario says, tapping his hammer that casually hung by the waist of his leather armor pants. Ever since Mario had received the hammer from the royal blacksmith it had never left his side. Of course Mario would want to go to the most west, tensions were high and for good reason. Tatticia had recently lost their king and while they had an heir it wasn't an ideal situation. Creating a political buzz about the country. Many of the knights, Mario included, thought that because of the new young king war was ready to break any moment and Luigi suppose that they wanted to be right where the glory would be. Personally Luigi wanted nothing more than to be stationed maybe in a smaller town doing basic law enforcement and spending his time in peace.
The only one who truly knew their fate was Princess Peach herself and the only thing that stood in the way of that truth were strong oak doors with intricate patterns meticulously burned on. Those doors suddenly opened. A servant gestured for them to follow him as he led them through the long room that they both had been in countless times.
It was the same magenta rug as the one four years ago.
"There must have been some mistake!" Mario said angrily, it had been after a long day of competitions against those who had also travelled for the chance to join the deadly elite. Mario was dirty, but had shone brighter than any star and Luigi was certain that he head heard the words "perfect" and "Candidate" from various specters regarding his brother. Luigi had been burning with pride until this moment, he hadn't done so well. He knew that, he could feel it in his bones and how they creaked, could feel it in the burning sensation in his lungs. The cuts, dirt, and pain had grown and were evidence of how he was knocked down. How he was the weakest of the bunch. However no mattered how many times he was knocked down he kept getting up, he had to because this was apart of Mario's dream and Luigi had pushed it this far and now it was being stripped away from the Royal Advisory Panel. "If Luigi can't join than neither will I!" And Mario was willing to fight them over this, give up his dream all because he could not just leave Luigi behind.
"You dare disrespect the decision of the panel?" Someone on the panel had snapped.
"There has to be another way. Luigi is stronger than what he seems." Mario sounded desperation, it sounded so out of place.
"Mario. Stop this. Do not give up your dream because I can't be apart of that." Luigi finally spoke up albeit softly, squeezing Mario's bicep.
"There is one way. " Toadsworth, one of the most respective members on the panel had piped up and Mario was more interested in what Toadsworth had to say. "If Luigi can win against one of our established privates than he may take that soldier's place.
Luigi had been barley able to take down one person in the competitions.
Mario brought Luigi back to the present with a sharp nudge of his elbow directing it to Her Majesty.
"Thank you for being here on such sudden notice." The princess says, her voice as sweet as the golden honey that drips from the honeycombs of the hive. She looked stunning as always, with her icy blue eyes, 24 parrot gold hair and intricate lace dress. Sitting by her side was the Royal Advisory Panel. Which explained the servant's behavior. Sometimes it seemed that the panel only cared about appearances and whether they were being kept or not.
"First I want to thank you both for your hard work and dedication for working with our newest recruits. I know it's not easy work, but it is appreciated work regardless. Now as I am sure that you two are aware the main topic of your transfers. This was not an easy decision , but I hope you will see in time that is the best one. Luigi." It startled him being singled out like this he was never the one to be singled out. "My sister, Princess Daisy needs you in the far east. She is having troubles in her castle and I am sending you to help her out. She can explain properly what it is that she expects from you."
"No problem your Highness. We will solve this problem swiftly." Mario said, very cocky and Peach tried her best to not to look too annoyed by his sudden interruption.
"Mario," She said sternly "you will come with me. I need you by my side when I travel to Tatticia for a diplomatic visit. Do you both understand what I am asking of you?"
Luigi thought that this briefing would help him calm his mind, but alas he felt even more on edge than before. They had never been to the most east of the kingdom, never had to. The castle was located in the middle of the kingdom and they had hailed from the north. Luigi had to go to somewhere he had never even been and work for a princess had never met nor seen. All without his brother. He wasn't sure if he could do it, but he had to try. For Mario.
"Yes, of course your majesty." They said in unison as they bowed.
"Prepare to depart in an hour." Princess Peach says, officially dismissing the pair
