Quick comment to the person who told me to stop making Jori stories because "they always suck": this is literally my third Jori story ever, so that argument makes no sense and if you have nothing productive to say, please don't even bother leaving a comment.
The rest of you, enjoy! :)
"Jade hasn't come to school all week" Cat commented as they ate lunch in the cafeteria.
"And that's why everything has been so calm lately" Andre responded.
"I have to admit it's true" Beck added.
"But where could she be?" Tori asked, she felt a lot more collected after all that time and she couldn't help to be concerned about Jade. They had not seen her or heard from her since their fight.
"I don't know, maybe she is sick at home or something" Andre said.
"Let's not think about that, she'll be back bullying people before we know it so let's just enjoy this time" Beck commented and Tori sighed, she had a bad feeling about Jade's absence.
Later that day Tori decided to call Jade, she didn't know what she would say but she wanted to make sure she was okay. The phone rang a few times and then someone finally picked up, but it was a male voice.
"Hello?" The man said.
"Umm…Hi? Who is this?" Tori asked and checked her phone to make sure she was calling Jade, which she was.
"This is Alan Rivers, I'm a doctor at the Los Angeles Hospital" The man informed "Are you Miss West's friend or relative?"
"Yeah…?" Tori said confused "What's happening? Why do you have her phone?" she asked.
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but she was in a horrible accident last week and she is in a coma" The doctor said and Tori's mouth dropped.
"What? What are you talking about?" Tori questioned.
"Why don't you come down here and I'll explain, we've been trying to reach her family, but no one has called back and we didn't know whom to contact" The man said "Can you come?"
"Yes, of course, I'll be there soon" She said and hung up, she didn't even change or call her parents, she immediately took off to the hospital.
"Hi, I'm looking for Jade West" Tori said anxiously as soon as she saw a nurse.
"Hi, why don't you ask the lady at the reception?" The nurse asked and Tori ran towards the desk.
"Hello, I'm looking for a girl, her name is Jade West" She said but the woman was on the phone, so she just stared at her.
"Of course, let me see if I have the results" The woman said and Tori rolled her eyes.
"This is an emergency" Tori insisted "Jade West, please tell me where she is"
"Hello, did you say Jade West?" A tall man asked and she nodded "Are you the girl on the phone?"
"Yes, doctor Rivers?" She asked and he nodded.
"Follow me" He took her to a room on the first floor and as soon as they walked in, Tori felt her stomach shrinking like she'd seen a ghost. Jade was on the bed with a large tube in her mouth and many cables connected to her body, there were monitors around her, she was unconscious and she had bruises all over her face and body.
"Oh my god, Jade" Tori said mortified and covered her mouth "What happened to her?"
"She was hit by a truck" The doctor said and Tori felt she'd misheard him, that felt like a bad joke meant to hurt her for wishing it.
"Excuse me? What did you just say?" Tori asked again.
"She was hit by a truck on Monday night" The doctor repeated and Tori looked at him shocked, feeling incredibly guilty.
"Oh my god" She said and shook her head, it had happened, it had actually happened. She had wished for Jade to be killed by a truck on Monday and that very same night, it had happened.
"It was a horrible accident, bystanders said she walked into the street with a greenlight and the driver couldn't stop the truck in time, so he hit her" The doctor explained "She got a concussion and broke her wrist, but the fact she is even alive is a miracle, she should be dead after an impact like that"
"But…but is she okay? Is she gonna wake up?" Tori asked with tears in her eyes.
"Only time can tell, there is nothing else we can do now" The doctor said "All cases are different, we can't predict what will happen"
"No, you can't just tell me that, you have to save her!" Tori said anxiously.
"I'm trying, but we do need someone to be responsible for her in case we have to pull the plug" The doctor said and she shook her head "I'm sorry, but I have to be honest"
"She can't die, she is eighteen!" Tori exclaimed.
"Do you know her parents?" Doctor Rivers asked.
"Just her father, you…you said he hasn't come, right? Does he know?" Tori asked trying to stay calm.
"We've left lots of messages, we sent someone to her house and nothing, no one showed up, we believe she is estranged from her family" He commented "You are the first person to call her all week"
"What? Are you sure?" Tori asked confused.
"Yes, I've been carrying her phone just in case someone made any contact" He explained "So, will you be responsible for her now? Or should we just call our lawyer?"
"Lawyer? Why would you need a lawyer?" Tori asked.
"To grant us the legal right to decide on her medical treatment" He responded "If she is alone, then it is our duty to make the call about when we unplug her"
"No, she is not alone" Tori responded "I'll be taking care of her now"
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, she is my friend" She informed and he sighed.
"Alright" Dr. Rivers said and handed her Jade's phone "I'll come back to check on her later" He said and walked out of the room, so Tori stayed there looking at her friend's almost lifeless body.
"I'm so sorry" Tori said, she felt so guilty for having wished death upon Jade, that she truly felt as if she'd been the one driving the truck that put her on that bed.
Tori called all her friends and they showed up at the hospital an hour later, they walked into the room and found Tori sitting by Jade's side, so their eyes wide opened "Oh my god" Andre said
"What happened to her?" Beck asked.
"She got hit by a truck on Monday" Tori informed.
"Like my dog?" Cat asked and Tori sighed.
"Yes, like your dog" She responded sadly and looked down crying.
"Are you okay?" Beck questioned.
"Tori, it's sad this happened but there is nothing we can do about it" Andre said.
"She is here because of me" Tori affirmed.
"What are you talking about?" Robbie asked.
"I wished for it, remember? I wished for her to die like this and it happened" Tori said mortified and they shook their heads.
"It was an accident, this isn't your fault" Beck affirmed.
"Of course not, that's ridiculous" Andre said "Come on, let's go grab dinner, her family can take care"
"No, she's been alone all this time" Tori informed "The doctor said they thought she was homeless"
"Really? What about her father?" Andre questioned.
"I mean, the man is horrible, I'm not surprised he didn't show up" Beck admitted "But still, it doesn't make it our responsibility"
"We can't just leave her here" Tori responded.
"Not completely, but we can't stay here all night" Andre said "We can come and visit, but you need rest, we all do"
"You go, I'm staying" Tori informed.
"Tori, this isn't your fault" Beck affirmed.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow" She simply said and turned back to Jade, so they sighed and left the room.
Several days passed and Jade was still in a coma, she had not improved at all and the doctors were starting to believe the best choice was to unplug her, but Tori refused to give them permission, she wanted Jade to wake up because only then she would stop feeling so guilty.
One day, Tori was, as usual, sitting in the hospital room eating lunch and watching TV, that was part of her routine now that she visited Jade every day, but then she felt a hand on her arm and she turned to the bed only to realize Jade was awake.
"Oh my god" Tori said surprised and stood up "Jade! You woke up" She said happily, but Jade had tubes everywhere so she couldn't speak, she was just looking around confused.
Tori ran out of the room and came back a few seconds later with doctor Rivers, who immediately attended Jade and the nurses assisted him to make sure she was okay. About two hours later, Jade was finally able to talk and move, but she was still hurt from the accident.
"You can go in now" The doctor said to Tori and she walked into the room, Jade immediately looked at her and she got confused.
"How are you feeling?" Tori asked.
"What are you doing here?" Jade asked back.
"Um…I, I wanted to make sure you were okay" She responded "The doctors were worried"
"Who called you? Why are you here?" Jade asked again, she was confused and she didn't understand anything.
"No one called me, I called you" Tori informed "I was worried because you missed school for a week and-" She started but Jade cut her off.
"A week? Wait, how long have I been here?" Jade asked.
"Two weeks" Tori informed and Jade sighed, it was good to know she hadn't lost too much time, so she felt better, but she could see Tori was holding something back.
"And?" Jade asked.
"Jade, did you fight with your dad?" Tori questioned.
"Why? Did he tell you something?" Jade asked back "Where is he?" She asked as she tried to sit up, but everything hurt.
"No, he didn't say anything, it's just…Jade, he hasn't come to see you since the accident, I had to sign all your paperwork" Tori informed.
"What? What are you talking about?" Jade asked confused.
"Your father never showed up and they had to have someone, so I told them it could be me, I didn't want them to pull the plug on you" Tori explained.
"Hold on, you're saying I was here for a week and no one came to see me?" Jade asked and it was clear that fact had hurt her, she hadn't expected it.
"I'm sorry" Tori said sadly "But as soon as I learnt you were here, I've come every day"
"Just you?" Jade asked.
"Our friends have come a couple of times too, they are worried" Tori said to make her feel better, but Jade could see she didn't really mean it.
"It's been just you, hasn't it?" Jade asked disappointedly and Tori sighed.
"I guess you could say that" She responded "But that's not important, don't worry about it"
"Why are you being nice to me? Did you forget what I did?" Jade asked confused, out of all the people she would have expected to be there for her, Tori was the last in the list.
"That's in the past, okay? I'm your friend and I wanted you to be okay, that's all" Tori said "But I'm sure your father will be glad to hear you are okay"
"Please, my father can't get rid of me fast enough" Jade admitted chuckling sadly "Clearly, he doesn't care whether I live or die"
"That's not true" Tori responded.
"It is" She affirmed "I know why I had the accident" she added and Tori looked at her nervously, for some reason she expected Jade to say she knew Tori had caused it by wishing for it.
"You do?" She asked.
"I went home after school and my dad was having a party with his colleagues as he sometimes does" Jade commented "You know where the conversation went after I arrived?" She asked coldly and Tori shook her head.
"No, what happened?" She asked.
"My dad offered my hand in marriage to one of those mummies" She responded.
"You are kidding" Tori commented.
"He was drunk, but he had discussed it with that man before, he would like me to do it, he can't get rid of me soon enough" Jade commented and sighed "So, I doubt he is glad I'm okay now, I doubt he was even concerned"
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry" Tori said sadly "Is he like that all the time?"
"Like what? Like an asshole?" Jade asked and Tori nodded "Yes, but it's worse when he drinks, that's why I avoid him as much as I can and he is fine with that, it's a good agreement" she added and sighed trying to seem normal, she didn't want to look weak.
"I had no idea" Tori admitted "That explains a lot"
"Okay, that's enough" Jade responded annoyed "I don't need you to give me therapy, doctor Vega" She added coldly.
"I'm…I didn't mean to upset you" Tori said "I'm sorry about your father"
"So am I but it is what it is" Jade said and sighed "Anyway, thanks for coming, I know I don't exactly deserve it" she admitted and Tori couldn't help to feel sympathy for her, what she'd done didn't seem so bad when compared to her life, she was stuck with a man who didn't care about her and she had no one else, as proven by the fact she spent a week almost dying on a hospital bed and no one noticed.
"You don't have to be thankful, I'm here because I care about you" Tori said.
"Don't lie, you are here because you had to, no one else would" Jade commented.
"Jade, that's not true" She responded "I wanted you to be okay, for real"
"Well, I'm okay now so I guess I have to go home" Jade responded.
"No, you don't" She said.
"What do you mean?" Jade asked.
"Why don't you come stay with me? Just while your wrist heals, it's better than having to deal with your father's drunk friends" Tori commented and Jade stared at her surprised, she couldn't believe Tori actually cared about her.
"Are you sure?" Jade questioned and Tori smiled.
"Absolutely, don't worry about it, it's no big deal" Tori informed "My parents are on vacation and Trina is on a trip, so I'll be alone for a few weeks"
"I don't know, I don't think I should…not after what happened at school" Jade said sincerely and Tori had never seen her so calm and nice, so she was confused, she assumed she was just tired and emotionally vulnerable after what had happened.
"That's nonsense, you are coming with me" Tori informed and Jade sighed "Don't worry, I'll take care of you"
