Chapter Two

Virginia

"Aren't you the least bit excited about going to Hollywood I mean, it sounds fun," Astrid said looking at her friend worriedly.

Elsa replied, her eyes downcast, "I know I should be more excited to see my grandparents, but it'll be the first time since the funeral."

Elsa looked down at her uneaten food with a heavy sigh. Of course she loved her grandparents and had missed them terribly, but she was apprehensive about going at all. She should have been more excited to see her relatives, it wasn't something she was often able to do and she understood that the time she had now wouldn't always be the time she had in the future. Yet still, the idea of going made her stomach twist and her chest ache.

Considering the last time Elsa had seen most of her family was at the funeral she supposed that the feelings were still too fresh and seeing everyone else was an unfortunate reminder of those awful days. it just hurt too much to be around everyone when she could the absence of the most important members. Since the loss, she had closed herself off from most of not all of her relatives because she couldn't take it. The stares, the pity glances, it had all been too much for her. Elsa tugged at her white sleeves, some of the blue shimmers rubbing off in her fingers.

"Oh cheer up lassie," said her friend, Merida, on her left, "I'm sure you'll have a great time sight seeing and spending time with the gammies."

Elsa weakly chuckled, "Can't I drag you both with me? For moral support of course and maybe some distracting."

Astrid put a hand on her friend's shoulder, "Hey, you got this. Besides, you'll have Anna and Rapunzel there with you, surely you guys would be in the same boat."

"Please, all those lasses want to talk about is that white haired lad and who knows what else," Merida commented running fingers through her wild red curls, "I doubt they will be much help on this journey."

"Thank you Mer, at least someone understands," Elsa said with a look to Astrid.

The blonde girl shook her head, "Regardless, you won't have to face this alone. You got them for the most part and you definitely have us. Oh, speaking of us, we need to make sure we all get our tickets for the dance this year. No skipping out this time."

At those words, Elsa's expression shifted to show her discomfort. School dances were always crowded, too loud and overall uncomfortable for her. While some people seemed to love the thrill of dancing with a million people, screaming to music that made her ears bleed, Elsa struggled to find the appeal. Though on the one hand she supposed a night out dancing with her friends or with a date should be an exciting time, she preferred other methods of having a fun time than a party. Astrid and Merida agreed which was the start of their friendship in middle school.

Instead of going to the dances, they went to one of their houses for the greatest sleepovers with movies, too many sweets, fort making and anything else they could of. In all the years they had known each other, it was their sacred tradition. Why they couldn't do that again this year, Elsa wasn't sure and it really did bug her if she was being honest. Both her friends had talked about the dances this year with more interest which Elsa almost couldn't believe and now here she was, knowing full well they were going to drag her to the dance.

"Don't tell me," Astrid said with a frown.

"You hav' to come with us," Merida said firmly.

Elsa shrugged, "I don't know guys, I'm really not interested in dances."

Astrid shook her head, "Elsa, it's senior year. You can't miss this dance or senior prom, come on now. These are the ones that really matter."

Merida nodded in agreement, "She's right. Don't get me wrong the idea of having to get all dressed up like some show pony is not my idea of fun, but this is a memory we can't get back. We should make the most of it, just this once."

"Since when are you two so interested in going to dances," Elsa questioned with a brow raised, "Who are you and what have you done with my best friends?"

"Been replaced with aliens," said Astrid grinning.

Merida scoffed, "No, it was robots obviously."

The three girls laughed at their jokes. When Elsa had lost everything, Merida and Astrid remained. If going to the dance would make her friends happy, then she supposed she could survive it. Senior year was coming and going, soon enough they would all be at different colleges doing all kinds of wild things. Merida would be off across the ocean at college for her archery and horseback riding skills with Astrid going somewhere in the midwest. Elsa was still deciding where she would go and she would miss her friends like crazy when the time came. One dance with them would just be another great memory to hold onto.

It was decided that all three of them would go to the dance, though Elsa would pretend she was only going so she could cover it for the school's news team. One day she was going to be a journalist and she couldn't wait. The three girls tossed their lunches away to go to the ticket booth, which was currently being run by her sister and cousin. Anna was dressed in jeans and an off the shoulder shirt that was black with some gen designs on it while the sleeves were dark green. Her red hair was put up in two simple braid that hung loosely over her shoulder. Standing in front of the table was Rapunzel who was passing out some flyers, she wore white pants and a light purple shirt with designs in pink around it. Her blonde hair was up in one braid, though braid went all the down to her waist. However, the teen was considering cutting off it and dying it.

"Hey Elsa," Anna greeted brightly, "You guys here to get tickets?"

Elsa nodded, "Unfortunately."

Astrid elbowed her, "Come on. It'll be fun."

Anna jumped in excitement, "Yes! I'm so happy, you're going to look amazing- not that you don't look amazing now cause you always look good- it really isn't fair, I mean it is, but- you know what never mind. I got a ticket with your name on it big sister."

"And here I thought it would say Jack Frost," Elsa said with a mostly teasing tone.

Rapunzel pouted, "We do have one and we're bringing it with us on our trip."

"You can't be serious," Merida said, her mouth agape.

"Dead serious," Rapunzel replied.

"Why are you both so hung up on this guy," Astrid asked curiously.

Anna gasped, "This guy? He is so much more than just some guy."

Rapunzel added, "While cousin Elsa is playing bingo with grandma and grandpa, Anna and I will meet Jack Frost."

"And just how are you planning to do that," Elsa asked crossing her arms over her chest.

Anna pulled out a binder with Jack Frost's face on it, "Glad you asked! You see, we've mapped out his every move for the past 18 months."

"Oh my God," Astrid said as she looked at the binder.

Elsa put her palm to face, embarrassing didn't begin to cover how she felt as her kid sister and cousin showed one of the million scrapbooks they had dedicated to a stranger.

"We know when and where he's likely to be every second of every day," Rapunzel explained with a grin, "About the time we leave for Los Angeles, he'll be having his daily meeting with his managers."

Elsa took the tickets with a shake of her head as she said to her friends, "You guys see what I live with?"

Merida threw an arm around Elsa, "Poor you."

Astrid only chuckled, "I'm sure you'll have a great time out there."

Los Angeles

Jack stared up at his bedroom ceiling with a frown. Last night had been fine, it would have been a great time if not for the paparazzi incident. There wasn't anything he could really do about it now, but it still bothered him the more he thought about it. He ran his fingers through his hair, when he pulled his hand away he saw the white dye he used was starting to come off. While he knew there were better dyes that he could use that wouldn't run like this one, he preferred it.

After all it was the same one he had been using since his debut and he didn't want to change it. Beside it did come out easily, he could take a shower and it would be all out giving him a chance to not be Jack Frost. Even if it was only for those few moments he got to be Jackson Overland, he would take it. A sigh escaped him as he glanced at the time, it was time for a meeting with managers/parents. He jumped out of bed and made his way downstairs to see his parents in the living room. His father was a large man dressed in a red suit and black tie while his mother was small and lean wearing a green dress.

"Hey honey," his mother greeted warmly, "You alright? You usually aren't in your room for that long."

Jack shrugged his shoulder, "I got caught up song writing is all."

"That's very good," his dad said grinning widely, "How you doing my boy? Are you ready?"

Jack answered, his hands in his blue hoodie pocket, "Yeah, totally ready. Excited."

His mother gave a quick cheer, "Oh, me too, this is a great opportunity. I can't wait to see where it takes you. Though is there anything more… professional you could put on?"

Jack looked at his outfit, "Why?"

"Oh Tooth, he looks just fine," his dad said coming to Jack's aid.

"He looks like a street kid instead of a movie star," said his mother as she tried to fix his hair. When she pulled her hand away, she could see the snow white dye on her fingertips, "And your dye is coming out. You should probably redo tonight."

His dad put a hand on her shoulder, "He looks fine. Just be yourself, Jack and everything will play out as it should."

The doorbell rang, alerting the family to their important guest's arrival. Jack was nervous about this meeting, it was supposed to be the next big step in his career. It should have excited him, but honestly he wasn't too thrilled with the idea of it all. While his mother went to greet their guest, Jack stood beside his father with a pensive look. His dad, noticing the shift in demeanor, placed a reassuring hand on Jack's shoulder. There was a lot of pressure riding on his son, especially at this time and it was a lot for him to handle. After all, Jack was only seventeen.

"Don't worry," said his dad, "You'll do great."

Jack nodded a bit absently. His mother returned with a tall man by his side by the name of Aster. Manfred "Manny" Moon was a big name movie producer and director, he was currently here because there was a chance that Jack would be perfect for the part. That was what this meeting would be about, determine if Jack was serious about starting an acting career. This would be his big break, he'd tour and do the movie. It would sure be a lot to handle, but he knew he had to do this. It would really put his name out there.

"Pleasure to see you Tooth, North," Manny said to his parents with a grin, "And Jack Frost."

Jack shook his hand, "Hey Moon."

Manny replied with a smile, "My kids are big fans of yours. But I'm not here to discuss your music."

Jack nodded at those words, "Right. Let's go to the living room."

"Yes, let's get right to the point," Manny said as the family followed him to the living room, "I've been watching you Jack and I like what I see. You are a talented, talented kid. You sing, you dance. I hope you can act because I like you for this movie. I think you'd be perfect for the part."

Jack grinned, that was good, "Thank you, sir. I mean, coming from you, this would be such an honor to... I mean, to work with someone…"

"Yes, but my people don't necessarily agree with me. See, all they see is a spoiled punk who likes to tangle with the paparazzi," Manny pointed out as he pulled out a magazine.

Jack sighed at seeing that particular magazine with his face in the cover in a less than flattering light. The paparazzi were a lot to handle and he struggled with them. While Jack had a fear of being invisible and forgotten, there were few moments where he would have enjoyed the anonymity. The press never gave him the chance.

Tooth frowned, "Manny, you know how the tabloids are. They manipulate those photos to-"

"I get it, I do, but listen here. This chance comes along once in a lifetime, and I want to give you a shot Jack. Really I do, but you have to prove that you're a serious and committed actor," Manny told him.

"How do I do that," Jack asked with a frown.

"On Monday, I'm gonna meet with my people, try and sell them on you," Manny informed him as he stood, "In the meantime, you just keep your face out of the tabloids. No press, good or bad. Okay?"

Jack nodded quickly, "Yeah, yeah, I can do that."

Manny grinned, "All right then, we're in business."

LA Airport

Elsa was standing behind her sister and cousin, who would not stop pacing as they waited for their guardians to come outside. Impatience, that was the energy her relatives were putting out. Currently the platinum blonde was listening to music on her phone as she read over an article that a student submitted to see if it could be put in the paper.

"Ugh, what's taking them so long," Anna groaned as she took a seat on the sidewalk, "I'm bored and could really go for some ice cream right now."

Rapunzel nodded, "They should just get me a car so we can go and meet Jack already."

Elsa didn't look up from her phone as she said. Rapunzel, you can't drive."

"Yes, I can," Rapunzel protested, "Licence."

Elsa lifted her gaze, "No, you can't. Sign."

Rapunzel frowned at that, her green eyes looked to the side to see in bold letters what Elsa was referring to. Anna rose to her feet to see what Rapunzel was looking at.

"You must be at least 25-years-old to drive "or rent a car from Los Angeles Car Rental,"

Rapunzel read in disbelief, "How are we supposed to do what we wanna do?"

"And what would that be," asked her father with her mother at his side.

Rapunzel blinked, she put her arms around her cousins, "Take Elsa and Anna sightseeing of course. I mean neither of them have been here before and dad you remember when we lived out here and how nice it was."

Her mother spoke, "Well, I think your grandma's got a car you can borrow."

Both Anna and Rapunzel cheered at that news, they would definitely be able to go Jack Frost hunting while they stayed out here. Elsa just resigned herself that this was how the trip would go, her younger relatives going crazy over some boy they didn't even know. It briefly reminded Elsa of when they were obsessed with some movie actor with sideburns whose name she couldn't remember.

The ride to their grandparents house was fairly swift, though the entire time Anna and Rapunzel talked about every celebrity who had been to each place they passed and of course Jack Frost's name appeared several times. It shouldn't have bothered Elsa as much as it did. Sure it was a bit on the excessive side how much they idolized this guy, but at least they had something to be excited about.

As the family pulled up to house, Elsa was happy to see her grandparents standing on the porch waving at them. The sight of them made something snap in Elsa, but in a good way. It was nice to see them in person, to see that they were still here. Once the car was parked, Elsa exited the back seat and quickly made her way over to her awaiting grandparents.

"Oh Elsa," her grandfather said a she pulled her into a tight hug.

"Grandfather," Elsa greeted grinning, she looked to her grandmother, "Hi Grandmother."

"It's so good to see you," her grandmother said pulling her into a hug, "We've missed you dearly."

Her grandfather was a broad shouldered man with graying auburn hair that Anna and her father both had. And her grandmother had darker hair that matched her uncle Frederic's. They grinned excitedly at her before their attention was brought to their son, daughter-in law and two more granddaughters. The greetings continued on for the next few minutes, it was a pleasant sight to see if Elsa was being honest. Though for a moment as she stood there, watching everyone hug and interact, she couldn't help, but be reminded of those who were missing from this picture. Her eyes began to burn from the tears she didn't want to shed.

Her grandfather, Runeard, noticed her change in demeanor and seemed to understand exactly what was going through her mind. The older man walked over to her with a warm smile to show he understood what she was feeling, that she wasn't alone. It had been three years since the loss of his oldest son and daughter in law. As he looked at his oldest granddaughter, he could see Iduna clearly and trace of Agnarr in features.

"I miss them too," Runeard told her as he wiped a stray tear on her cheek away.

Elsa offered him a weak smile, "I'm sorry I haven't been around, it just hurts."

"You have nothing to apologize for snowflake," said Runeard, "Now come on. Let's get you and the girls settled before they try to take your grandmother's car."

Elsa snickered at that, but made no other remark as she went to get her bags from the car. For the duration of the afternoon, Elsa spent it helping her grandparents with anything they might need assistance with. It was a peaceful afternoon, there wasn't much to do, but Elsa did enjoy spending time with her grandparents after not seeing them for so long.

After dinner, Elsa had changed into blue over the shoulder sleeve shirt and some yoga pants to sleep in. It was only 8:30, but given the time difference and the flight, Elsa was exhausted and just about ready to sleep. Luckily she would be having her own room while Rapunzel and Anna shared for a change. However as she heading to her room, she passed the room where her relatives a we're staying to see them pacing like crazy again and murmuring to each other. This couldn't be good.

"What's the matter with you two," Elsa asked with arms wrapped around her stomach.

Rapunzel spoke quickly, "I just got a call from Briar who just had a chat about a text quoting a blog about Jack Frost."

"He's singing tonight at Alexis Bender's birthday party. We have to go," Anna added.

"Good luck convincing Uncle Fred and Aunt Ari of that," Elsa said with a knowing look.

Anna pouted, then her eyes lit up, "What if you went with us?"

Rapunzel gasped, "That's perfect! They'll let us go if you're there for sure."

"No, absolutely not," Elsa answered with a frown, "How many times do I have to say this? I'm not interested in meeting a stupid celebrity. I mean, I am sick and tired of Jack Frost. He's all you two ever talk about.

"We'll stop talking about him," Rapunzel offered.

"What," Elsa and Anna said at the same time.

"If you go with us, and we meet Jack Frost, then Anna and I will stop talking about him for the rest of the trip," Rapunzel continued.

"Oh pretty please Elsa," Anna begged with big eyes.

Elsa brought her hand to the bridge of her nose, this could not be happening. Her night would certainly be on the miserable side, but perhaps she would get some peace instead of their constant chatter about that guy. There were a number of ways she would much rather be spending her night, though as she looked at their faces, she decided that she could do this for them. It would make them happy after all.

"Fine," Elsa said, defeated.

Anna and Rapunzel practically threw themselves at her, saying thank you at least a hundred times as they hugged her tightly. This would be fine, she was fine. Rapunzel and Anna got permission then put on their outfits incredibly fast. It was a wonder that they couldn't do that when getting ready for school, though Elsa supposed that made since. She wasn't one to eagerly get ready for school either. While Anna wore a nice green dress and Rapunzel a purple one of similar make, Elsa didn't plan on going inside and decided to leave her outfit as it was.

Elsa drove the girls to the club that Jack Frost would supposedly be at and felt insane. Couldn't this be classified as stalking? Sure was certain it could, not that her relatives would care. She pulled into a spot that thankfully wasn't in the no parking zone and had a meter of two hours. While she hoped and prayed she wouldn't have to be here for two hours, she knew she could use it as a mild threat to Anna and Rapunzel.

"We're here," Elsa said as she turned off the car, "If you two aren't back by the time that meter runs out, then I'm leaving you."

Anna and Rapunzel shared an amused look, they knew Elsa was bluffing. Over the years, Elsa had become the goody two shoes of the family and on the overly cautious side of things. All three teens knew there was no way she would leave Anna and Rapunzel behind in an unfamiliar place. But considering she was doing them a huge favor, the girls silently agreed to play along.

"You got it cuz," Rapunzel said climbing out the car.

"We'll see you soon," Anna said grinning.

Elsa waved goodbye as her sister shut the door. She watched through her mirror to see that they would make it to the door before she got out to pay the meter. Once that was taken care of, Elsa climbed back into the driver's seat, put one head phone in and waited.
