A/N: Hello! here i am with the second chapter. The first chapter was more of a prologue 'cause this is part of what I really wanted to write. The reason Emiko and Kado call Eijun mom is because that's what they called him when they were younger and the word just stuck. I also forgot to add this last chapter, but this was heavily influenced by a dj called "Single Mother Eijun". You should consider reading it, it's really cute. Remember to read the warnings to see what you might not like in the story and enjoy!

Emiko was pissed, to make an understatement. Kado was late, again. He was supposed to walk back with her, but he wasn't here yet. She could have just walked home without him, but mom had said to walk together, and even if her mother wouldn't say anything, Emiko knew he would be disappointed.
So, she found a nearby bench and sat, pulling out her homework and deciding to work on it, but just as she had gotten set up, Kado came running at full speed, stopping when he reached her and gasping for breath.
"I'm here!" he exclaimed.
Emiko facepalmed, her brother seriously had the worst timing.
"You couldn't have ran faster?" she asked, her eyebrow twitching in annoyance.
"I'm sorry!" he stuck his tongue out of one side of his mouth and rubbed the back of his head. His wink implied that he wasn't very sorry at all.
A tick mark appeared on Emiko's forehead and she chopped her brother on the head with her heavy notebook.
"You better be!"
Emiko turned, packed up her stuff and started to march home, her brother following after her.
Emiko stepped inside her house and pulled off her shoes, her brother following suit.
"I'm home!" she called out.
"Welcome back!" a voice called from the kitchen.
Kado rushed to the kitchen, "mom! I'm home and you'll never guess what happened!"
Kado hugged Eijun tightly.
"Whoa!" Eijun nearly fell over from how hard he was hugged.
"Mom!" Kado grinned unable to suppress his excitement, "I got an offer from a high school for baseball!"
Eijun gasped and beamed brightly, he ruffled Kado's hair. "I'm so proud of you, but it's up to you to decide what you want to do. If you decide to go to the school then I'll fully support you."
Emiko, who had listened in to the conversation, decided to step in.
"I'm proud of you too," she hugged her brother, "I hope you choose to join a good school and win a lot of baseball matches. I'll cheer you on. Do your best!"
Kado grinned, and then rushed out of the kitchen.
"Kado- kun?" Eijun called out in confusion.
"I'm going to my room to research the school!"
Eijun smiled softly and put his hands on his hips, "Mou, what will I do with that kid?"
"Mom?"
"It's nothing. Emiko- chan, will you help me by putting the rice in the cooker?"
Emiko nodded and the two started to cook food.
A while later, Miyuki came home from practice, "I'm home," he announced giving Eijun a kiss on the cheek.
Emiko, who was sitting on the floor doing homework on the coffee table, called out a "welcome home!"
Eijun laughed and kissed him back, and then pushed him in the direction of the bathroom, "Welcome home. Go take a shower, you stink."
"Yes, sir," he playfully agreed, and dropped his bag next to the door.
In the time Miyuki had gone and taken a shower, Emiko had helped set up the table and Kado had come out from his room.
They all sat around the table, "thank you for the food."
"Let's eat!" Kado cried out, grabbing his chopsticks and attacking the food in front of him.
"Kado- kun, you shouldn't eat so fast," Eijun chided as he got up to get more rice, "you'll upset your stomach."
"Sorry mom," Kado mumbled around a bite of food, they ate in silence for a while, it was only until Eijun had gotten up to put away his dishes that Kado remembered something. He finished hurriedly and turned to Miyuki.
"Dad! Guess what happened today at school, I got scouted!"
Miyuki raised an eyebrow, clearly interested, "what school?"
"Seido! I looked it up and it's a really good school."
Miyuki hadn't heard that name in a long time, he laughed, "You know, I used to go to Seido."
"Really?!" Kado was shocked.
"Really. I think you'll like it there."
"Then it's settled, I'll go to Seido!" Kado confirmed, picking up his empty dishes. Eijun came out of the kitchen, "what was-"
"I'll do the dishes mom! You relax!" Kado screeched and rushed to put them into the sink and start scrubbing.
Eijun looked lost but shrugged anyways. He untied the apron he had put on, and handed it to Kado.
"Yosh!"
"Kado- kun, calm down."
A few months later Kado and Emiko had graduated from middle school.
"Smile!" Eijun encouraged him as he took a picture with Emiko. Click!
They had driven home, a giddy feeling in the air.
Kado and Emiko had grabbed the stuff they packed for Seido and they drove to the train station, Miyuki had kissed them on the forehead and Eijun had tearily hugged the life out of them. It was sad, but Eijun and Miyuki couldn't have been more proud.
"Do your best. Ok?" Eijun had smiled.
Emiko and Kado smiled back, "we will," they replied in unison as they stepped off the platform. They waved to their mom and dad as the door closed and the train started to move.
On that train, they made a promise, "let's do our best, for mom and dad, okay?"
"Okay. It's a promise."
