Here's Chapter Two. As mentioned last Chapter, constructive criticism is appreciated. And, in reply to the guest who wrote the 1st review for this story, there will be mega evolutions in the story. I don't know about the Exeggcute, but one will probably be caught by Ash. Ash will have more than six Pokémon total, but I have no plan for what his team will be other than Charizard. If you have a Pokemon you want Ash to get, leave a reply. For now, enjoy!
Ash was walking through the grasses of Route One, Charmander on his shoulders. Charmander walked for some of the time, but his much shorter legs made it difficult to keep up with Ash. So far, the only Pokémon he had seen were Rattata and Pidgey. Most of them were scared off by Charmander growling at them, but some stuck around. Those Pokémon regretted it soon after. Charmander had learned the move Ember, and once he got the move, it had become second nature to him. Almost all the Pokémon that had stuck around for a fight left with nasty burns. Viridian City was about two days from Pallet on foot. It was sunset now and Ash knew he should start setting up camp. Delia had told Ash that wild Pokémon got more aggressive at night, and it was dangerous to travel. When they had reached a cluster of trees, Ash lifted Charmander off his shoulders and onto the ground, ignoring Charmander's protests. "We're going to set camp up here Charmander. We'll do a bit of training and then sleep". Charmander seemed interested enough in training to forget about his previous anger at Ash. After setting up the tents, Ash told Charmander "We're going to test your other moves, Dragon Rush and Metal Claw". Charmander suddenly looked hesitant. "It's ok if you can't do the moves perfectly yet. That's why we train in the first place". Charmander calmed down after hearing that. "Okay, we're going to start on Metal Claw first. We need to practice Metal Claw so we have an advantage against Brock". Charmander took over a serious face.
"Char!".
"Charmander, use Metal Claw on the tree.", Ash told Charmander. Charmander ran up to the tree and slashed at it. Soon, Ash realized something. Charmander would have to be forced to use Metal Claw. A tree's bark would be easily ripped apart by scratch. A boulder, however, forced Charmander to use Metal Claw to dent it. "Okay Charmander, change of plans. Can you use Metal Claw on the stone over there?". Charmander switched his target to the boulder. As Ash watched Charmander, he noticed fragments of a metallic gleam forming on Charmander's hand. As the moon came over Kanto, Ash decided to stop training. "Okay, that's enough for today". Charmander immediately collapsed on his haunches.
"Charr…" Charmander groaned out. Ash lifted Charmander up and put him next to his own sleeping bag.
"Good night Charmander. You did excellent at training", Ash told Charmander not realizing Charmander was already asleep. Once noticing, Ash smiled.
The next day, Ash and Charmander packed up their tent and headed off. Ash told Charmander to walk because he wanted Charmander to grow some more stamina and because he was a young Pokemon who had large amounts of growth potential waiting. While they walked, Ash told Charmander about his life, his mom, his favorite ice cream flavor, and any small detail he could think off. Charmander was a good listener. Charmander actually rolled over with a chirping noise Ash interpreted as laughter when he heard about Ash trying to ride one of Prof. Oak's Tauros. Time flew, and soon enough Ash and Charmander were only a mile away from Viridian. As Ash sat down on a tree stump to take a drink of water, Charmander pulled on his leg.
"Char! Char!". Charmander pointed up at the sky. When Ash looked up, his eyes widened to an abnormally large extent. In the sky, a bird was flying. Not just any bird, though. Ash pulled out his Pokedex to record the event.
Ho-oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. There is currently no data on this species of Pokémon.
Ash stared, hypnotized, as a single feather dropped from Ho-oh and into Ash's hand. Ash grasped the feather and put it in his backpack. "Charmander, let's go". Charmander nodded, filled with new vigor and excitement.
Viridian City was small, by city standards. Ash, having been in Pallet Town his whole life, felt that Viridian City was a large area. The first thing Ash did was take Charmander to the Pokémon Center. Charmander hadn't gotten badly hurt in his scuffles against wild Ratatta and Pidgey, but Ash wanted him ready for the return trip. As he came into the Pokémon Center, a nurse smiled at him. "Are you here to heal your Charmander?". Ash nodded.
He told Charmander, "I'm going to return you to your poke ball for a minute. You need to heal up". Charmander let himself enter the poke ball. Ash handed the poke ball to the Nurse.
The nurse told Ash, "This will only take a minute. Just sit tight!". The nurse kept her word. Charmander's poke ball was given to Ash and he took it gratefully. Walking outside of the Pokémon Center, he saw a familiar face.
"Leaf!", Ash exclaimed in surprise. Leaf smiled at Ash.
"The one and only" she responded.
Ash asked, "How have you been doing?".
"Well enough. Right now I have Bulbasaur and I caught a Pidgey", Leaf responded.
"Nice! I haven't caught any Pokémon yet, " said Ash rather sheepishly.
"Do you want to battle?", Leaf asked.
"Yeah! Let's do a One vs One battle. ". Leaf nodded and the two of them started to walk towards the battle field.
"Go Pidgey!" Leaf called out. Ash didn't need to say anything but watched as Charmander entered the field. The two Pokémon stared eachother down. "Pidgey, use Peck!", Leaf cried out.
Ash calmly responded with, "Let Pidgey hit you and use Metal Claw". Pidgey crashed into Charmander, but thanks to all the exercise Charmander had gotten against Route One's Pokemon, the attack didn't hurt Charmander much. Charmander's claws took on a metallic glint and slashed at Pidgey, ramming it to the ground. "Now Charmander, pin Pidgey down and repeatedly use Ember!". Charmander put one hand on Pidgey, forcing it down, and blasted Pidgey repeatedly with flames. Pidgey soon gave in with Leaf not knowing what to do seeing how Charmander had dominated the smaller Pokemon. "Good battle Leaf".
"It wasn't good and you know it. I need to do more training with Pidgey. I'm sorry. I probably would have given you a better match with Bulbasaur." Leaf stated, not angrily, but with a matter-of-fact tone.
"Well, Charmander and I are going to stay outside for a little and train. " Ash told Leaf. Leaf nodded and took Pidgey to the Pokemon Center. "Ready to train, Charmander?".
Ash and Charmander collapsed on the ground, having worked well past what they should be. Ash hadn't realized that training would be. The good part was that Charmander would be able to effectively use Metal Claw against the 1st gym leader Ash planned to battle, Brock. Also, Charmander had inspired Ash to create a new move, a secret weapon against Brock. Finally, Charmander's speed and endurance had increased drastically. He was challenging Brock and skipping Giovanni because even though Giovanni is the closest Gym leader, but he was one of the Gym leaders who used his strongest team for every battle. Charmander would definitely faint from the 1st attack any of Giovanni's Pokémon used. But, Brock adjusted his team depending on the trainer's badge count. Ash came into the Pokemon Center with Charmander inside of his poke ball. Nurse Joy smiled at him. "Done training for the day, Mr. Ketchum?". Ash couldn't muster the energy to speak, so he just nodded. "I'll take that poke ball then". Ash handed over the Poke ball. "This is going to take some time. Your Charmander is extremely tired. Feel free to take a walk". Suddenly, Ash remembered the reason he was in Viridian City. He forgot about Oak's package!
"Nurse Joy, I have to go pick up something at the store. I will be back in a few minutes". Nurse Joy smiled and nodded. Ash went outside to look for the Poke Mart. After entering, he realized he didn't know who would give him the package!
Thankfully, an old scientist came up to him and asked, "Are you the trainer Oak sent?". Ash nodded. "This is the package Oak wanted. Guard it carefully". Ash nodded curiously. What could be important enough in a package that barely fit his hand to guard? Ash put the parcel in his bag and went back to the Pokémon center.
Nurse Joy handed Ash his Charmander. "Your Pokemon has been fully healed up!". Suddenly, the doors of the Pokemon center burst wide open. Two men burst in. Both of them were wearing some sort of uniform that was jet black except for a capital red R on their shirts.
"We're Team Rocket! Give us the Pokemon you have now or else!". Ash knew he had to battle these two men. His Pokemon was at stake. Ash opened Charmander's poke ball.
"Charmander, this is a serious battle. These men are kidnapping innocent Pokémon". Hearing that, Charmander glared at the two men. In return, the men sent out a Pokémon which looked like a beach ball that was expelling gas. The other one had sent out a purple snake.
"Go Koffing!".
"Go Ekans!".
Ash pulled out his Pokedex and scanned the Pokemon. He wanted to know all he could about the Pokémon he was battling. First he scanned the Koffing.
Koffing, the Poison Gas Pokemon. Koffing hovers in the air, thanks to the poisonous gases it contains, which have a foul odor and can explode.
Next Ash scanned Ekans.
Ekans, the Snake Pokemon. Ekans curls itself up in a spiral when it rests. Assuming this position allows it to quickly respond to a threat from any direction with a glare from its upraised head.
Ash quickly formulated a plan. "Charmander, use Growling Claw on Koffing!". Growling Claw was the move Ash and Charmander created together. Essentially, Charmander growled at opponents to intimidate and keep them from moving while hitting them with a Metal Claw. Right now, the attack worked like a charm. Charmander slashed through Koffing sending it spiraling into the wall.
Ekans's owner cried out, "Ekans, bite that lizard!". Ekans lunged at Charmander but it was obviously wasn't well trained. Charmander's speed training earlier let it jump over Ekans's lunge and watched as Ekans crashed into a wall.
"Get up you useless Pokemon!" yelled a team rocket member. This made Ash even more furious. How could he be so cruel to Ekans when he clearly neglected Ekans's training. Ash saw from the corner of his eye the Koffing rising back up.
"Charmander, use Ember on Koffing". Koffing was too slow to dodge the hit and crashed against the wall once again.
"Dammit. I didn't think we would have to use this Pokemon today. " said one grunt.
"Should we? The boss said only to use his Pokémon if we had too." asked the other.
"Well our useless ones aren't getting the job done. GO GENGAR!". That was when Ash realized he stood no chance of winning the battle anymore. Charmander wouldn't be able to fight a Gengar. Thankfully, he didn't have to. Another man entered the Pokemon Center. Ash and the Team Rocket members recognized him. Giovanni, the gym leader of Viridian City.
"I would recommend you leave now." That was all Giovanni said. The team rocket members ran as fast as they could, leaving even their own Pokémon in the Pokemon center. "Young man, you did a good job. Your Charmander defeated two Pokemon at once with minimal battle experience. But still, I think I will be safe entrusting you with this pokemon egg".
Ash was surprised enough that Giovanni. "Thank you sir," Ash said.
"Kid, you deserved the praise. Don't let it get to your head. It was just one battle. You have the makings of a strong trainer". Ash just dumbly nodded, still in shock of what just happened. After Giovanni left, Ash and Charmander went to the room they had rented in the Pokemon Center. Ash placed the egg on the ground because Ash didn't want the egg to break. Ash and Charmander fell asleep the moment they laid down on the bed.
One more chapter done! So, how was chapter Two? I hope you liked it. As always, constructive criticism is appreciated and please leave suggestions for a Pokémon you think Ash should capture.
