The summer was more than hot. If one were to ask I could easily describe it as cruel. My stomach wakes me up one morning while staying at the cabin with the boys and their grandfather. I'd been pushing to sleep on the sofa when it was revealed we'd have to share a bed with boys our age and up. Alas, this bitch did not get her way.
I got stuck in between Baby and Samuel Douglas while Trick stuck himself between Michael and Jeffrey on the right. I mentally groan, wishing I could be anywhere but. I usually wake up early- hungrier than usual since I ate one meal a day. So, when my blue eyes flutter open; my heartbeat sped up at the sight of Mori Tanaka leaning over us. My mind briefly registered the thought of him starting ninja training this way.
I felt the slightest jump from the blonde boy on my left whose pale green blue eyes were sound shut. My eyes are too focused on the grandpa, pressing a finger to his lips to tell me to be quiet then the boy on my left. Although, my thoughts were semi on him. I shook it off, lightly removing myself from the bed. My entire body proved sore as I snuck down the stairs, keeping a distance from the scene.
I was waiting at the kitchen table. I tap my frail, bony fingers on the sleek top waiting. I heard Baby squeal, followed by a sneeze. I chuckle knowing the other boys would have been awoken by her squeal since it was taking progress to get the training down.
"I get we wrestle, but I'm not used to be stuck every morning." Baby announces, releasing a yawn as she joins me in the kitchen.
"Yeah, this is the second to last day of summer to get it accurate. Otherwise, we won't have learned a thing." I solemnly repeat what I'd been told.
The days were mornings of the entire summer were a repition with the occasional added bonus.
"Baby, how can you not have gotten used to grandpa's trick by now? You're good in all the rest of the fighting." Jeffrey Douglas yawns, making his way downstairs. He was the middle brother, the one with tan skin, hazel eyes, and neat brown hair. He happened to be a dream.
"That's what I've been telling her all summer!" I groan, throwing my hands up in the air.
"You'll get it, don't worry." The voice of Samuel softly chimed in, making his appearance known. Him and I did not see eye to eye. The unusually pale boy for someone of Asian background kept shooting me glares this Summer- more so then all the previous times. His pale eyes set on me in an icy glare, dampening his features into a scowl.
I smirk, watching Trick, Michael and Mori join us. My eyes briefly take in the youngest Douglas boy whose eyes were hazel to match a dark brown bowl cut with freckles on pale facial features.
"I promise to be less jumpy! This summer has been a bit of a distraction." Baby groans, turning a new pink.
"Who can sleep next to gross, smelling boys who watch you in a glare?" I sarcastically remark, gaining a newfound hatred from the oldest of the Douglas boys.
"Act like Ninjas! Not babies!" Mori Tanaka snaps, gathering our attention.
...
I perk up as the grandfather partners us up to spare with one of his grandsons. Why would I perk up being with Jeffrey? I may have held a slight crush for the boy given his attitude made him all the worthwhile. I'd always wanted to know what his pink lips felt like on mine, but I'd never say anything aloud.
"Come on, Roxanne. You were doing so well before!" Jeffrey shouts, making a movie to block my weak attempt of attacking him.
I mentally curse myself. I'd been daydreaming without consent a third time this summer. I shake my head, reminding myself that guys didn't like girls with short hair. Especially if they were guys my age or up. I wasn't even the best looking amongst us.
No, I ranked Samuel as beautiful before all of us. Of course, Trick was beautiful of the same category while Jeffrey is handsome, Baby hit it off with gorgeous and Michael had the cuteness factor in all of us. I held no ranks since I was too uncool in my own eyes to belong.
"I can't concentrate!" I growl, balling up my fists. I dig my half eaten fingernails into the palm of my hands. I don't want to end up hurting him so bad he can't walk.
"I know I'm irresistible, Roxanne, but this isn't the time." Jeffrey sarcastically snickers.
I furrow an eyebrow, growing infuriated by his insinuation. I fold my arms over the white karate gi gifted to us by Mori. "Why would you think you were the reasoning?"
"Please, you've been drooling over me all summer." Jeffery smirks, wiggling his eyebrows.
I'd show the brunette who was drooling over him all summer alright. I duck, crouching to the ground while he is in Jeffrey-land- tugging up a handful of crisp autumn leaves. I stretch my right leg, sweeping his feet from under his. I silently laugh as the boy butt plants to the dirt.
"You were saying?" I tease, watching the boy turn red.
"Never mind." He embarrassingly voices. He shakes his head, taking a stand to dust himself off.
Baby tiptoes over, using a wooden staff to gently poke Jeffrey in the back. She hides a grin as he grows defensive; turning to swing on her.
His eyes widen as the staff touched his forehead. He's sweating in fear. How could he have not seen her coming up from behind?
I tense up in my spot after straightening my posture. I softly smile to myself, scowling as Samuel misses knocking me upside the head from behind. I grunt, pulling him over my shoulder while tossing him weakly to the ground. I was exhausted from all the training always feeling energetic as the day came to a close.
Samuel's face is a rosy shade of red as he groans in pain from his spot on the ground.
The training has finally just begun. We were nearly ready to take on our ninja namesake.
"Hiyah!" Michael shouted, sneaking up on me. His knuckles grazed my ribs as I twist to capture his small fist.
I'm smirking as I shove him into Samuel on the ground. I giggle as they groan at the impact.
Baby easily pins Trick who didn't want to be training in the first place. Her foot remained on my brother who didn't struggle to get up.
Trick only agreed to join us in order to spend time with Michael. A kid his own age while he knew the parents of Baby wouldn't let us stay at the house without them their.
They had a business trip plus they wanted some alone time together to be a couple.
"Who's laughing now?" Baby taunts, sticking her tongue out at the boys.
I chuckle while Samuel removes himself from the ground, lightly shoving his brothers. I saw the anger painted across his face, fully aware we were in for it big time. A smirk spreads across my face, "We are!"
"You two are like Peter Pan. You should get help for that." Samuel mouths, huffing as he stalks off like he lost a pride to be won.
Jeffrey equals the anger his older brother gave off, following him to find their grandfather.
Michael sends us a chilly glare, helping Trick who leaves with the younger boy.
Baby and I share a glance. We nonchalantly shrug, high fiving at our score.
Sometimes, boys could be real sore losers! We were sore winners. They should be should be happy eating a chicken dinner.
