Later that day the girl found herself staring out the window, like she did every evening since four days now. The sun had already set and the purplish, grayish sky was getting darker and darker. Together with her thoughts.

She grabbed her phone with a tight throat and dialed his number. Again.

But just like the other days Gavin's phone was out of service. She sighed and shut her tired eyes for a few seconds - her forehead leaning on the chilly glass of the window. He had told her he would be back from the mission days ago.

Every day the girl's heart was getting heavier and heavier. What took him so long? Did something happen? Just imagining Gavin being in danger made her stomach squirm painfully. It can't be, she said to herself.

He has to be safe. Otherwise... otherwise she would-

The sound of the doorbell interrupted her uneasiness and suddenly make the girl fell into a hurry. Could it be him? So fast she almost tripped MC sprinted to the door.

A tiny voice in her head constantly told her, if it would be him, Gavin would have just appeared before her window - like he always did. But her aching heart wanted to hope.

It must be him - right?

Slightly out of breath she reached the door and had a little trouble unlocking it. (Gavin insisted on her locking it whenever he would be out of town for a mission and although MC's thought it would be unnecessary she would do it anyway because of the concern that always seemed to appear in his amber eyes whenever he was about to leave).

But as the door finally opened it weren't those amber eyes which caught her look. But green ones.

"Eli?!"

She barely got his name out, as her throat started tightening up. Something didn't go as planned - otherwise Gavin would have been back by now.

"What are you doing here? What happened?" The girls voice cracked and her breathing got unsteady.

"Where's Gavin?"

While the dark-haired man quietly explained what had happened at the mission the first tears started rolling down MC's cheeks...
