Chapter 1

It began in Keikei City in China…with the news that a baby with a glowing body was born! After that, 'exceptional' individuals began popping up all over the world. The cause was unclear. Time passed…and the 'exceptional' became the norm. Fantasy…became reality! As of now about eighty percent of the world's population consists of people with special abilities. The world is in chaos! And a profession that everyone once only dreamed about…entered the spotlight!I'm Margaret Conners, age fourteen. I was born in America but moved here to Japan with my mother when I was four. I was running along the streets of the city with my friend Izuku Midoriya. Even though he is quirkless, he loves heroes, and has dreamed of becoming one himself, just so he could help people. One of the most adorable things about him is that he studies and takes notes on the quirks of other heroes and thinks of different ways they could be used.So here we were standing in the middle of the street, watching a villain with some kind of gigantification quirk fighting several heroes, including the young superstar Kamui Woods. Izuku is so knowledgeable when it comes to heroes, he even gave a running commentary on Kamui Woods and his abilities. As Kamui was about to use his ultimate move the "preemptive binding lacquered chain prison", a giant blonde lady with purple horns on her head jumped out of nowhere and kicked the villain in the face yelling, "Canyon Cannon!" Kamui was obviously bummed. Then out of nowhere flashing cameras surrounded the new hero who is making her debut as Mt. Lady. Along with the exceptional abilities came an explosion in the crime rate. While other nations struggled to overhaul their legal systems…brave individuals took up the mantle of heroes straight out of comic books…protecting the people from evildoers! With public support, some quickly acquired the right to serve as heroes in an official capacity. Depending on their performance, they have the potential to earn government pay along with fame and glory. I want to become a hero one day right alongside Izuku. And currently I hear him muttering and taking notes while standing off to my right. An older man with three crosses coming out of his head noticed too. "You taking notes, kid? You wanna be a hero. Good luck!" And Izuku being the humble lad that he is, smiled with his face flushed with excitement and said, "Thanks! I'll try" That's my best friend for you. We grew up together, sharing the same dream. And I believe that he-no, we can do it. * * * * * * * * "All right listen up! You are all third-years now, so you should do some serious thinking about your future!" my teacher was lecturing us. I was quietly sitting at my desk with my chin resting on my palm while staring out the window. "I would hand out these future career forms but…you're all taking the hero course!" As soon as the teacher said 'hero course', the whole class erupted into cheers with all of them using their quirks, while Izuku timidly leaned over his desk with his hand slightly in the air amidst the chaos that the teacher was having a hard time settling down.

"Sensei! Don't lump me in with these losers! As if I had anything like…their shitty quirks." Now there are only two kinds of heroes in this world in my opinion. There is someone like Izuku, who just wants to save people with a smile…and then there are people like that guy. Katsuki Bakugo, the class bully and the self-proclaimed future number one hero. I had a bad feeling about him since I first saw him in the park bullying Izuku. Everyone else was telling Katsuki to get over himself, while I had half a mind to yell at everyone to shut the hell up. Lucky for them the teacher spoke up. "Ah, Bakugo, you must be aiming for U.A. high school." As soon as 'U.A.' was mentioned, the whole class was going crazy about how it's a prestigious school and only those with the best quirks could get in. And Katsuki was going off about how he aced the mock exam and he is the only one that can get in. I was trying to tune it all out until… "Oh, Midoriya and Conners, aren't you two trying to get into U.A. as well?" All the energy in the room died. 'Damn you Sensei. It's as if you want me and Izuku to have our asses handed to us.' Then everyone started laughing, going off and on about how our grades would not get us into U.A. 'All these shallow bastards, thinking that an amazing quirk is the only thing that matters.' Poor Izuku was trying to defend himself, and failing miserably, until Katsuki came and blew him away with an explosion to his desk. "Cut the crap, Deku! You don't have a quirk, and the mute's quirk isn't even worth anyone's time! And you think that you two can rub shoulders with me?!" Katsuki had Izuku cornered, and the broccoli boy was a stuttering mess, time for me to step in. "With a condescending attitude like that, Katsuki, no one will ever admire you when we become heroes." "Tch. You honestly think you and that damn Deku can try at the entrance exam?! You losers aren't even close to my level, with or without a quirk!" Katsuki is right about my quirk not being very impressive to most people. I have a cell regeneration quirk which I inherited from my mother. The full extent of my quirk usage is that I'm able to heal up to a really bad sprain before I get a massive headache or even pass out. My mother told me that I have my father's quirk as well, but it has yet to manifest. I have been told that it's incredible at this point I highly doubt it. "So I have been told. Time and time again you have said the same fucking words to me every single day since we met, Katsuki! And let me tell you this, there is a major difference between not having a quirk, and choosing not to use it. And even if my quirk isn't impressive and Izuku may not have one, your pathetic attempt at cutting down our dream of getting into U.A. is not going to stop us."
