Chapter 2.

Ferb sat at the foot of his purple bed, opposite a pacing Phineas.

"I just find it really hard to believe that no species would take advantage of that wonderful habitat, I mean really, why wouldn't you want to live on Neptune? It is a perfect environment to raise a complex civilization and its right in front of everyone's faces! You're telling me that never has an asteroid containing even microscopic life crashed on to a humongous floating ball of liquid?" It really was funny to see Phineas rant about obliviousness when every day he would talk to a girl with literal hearts in her eyes. Ferb had noticed Isabella was getting desperate at this point. Isabella had tried confessing to Phineas before, but her attempts were just as successful as Candace's busts.

Ferb decided to take this rare occasion and add a rare action of his own.

"It's entirely possible that life on Neptune is merely microscopic and unable to communicate. However, I'd like to ask you a question about something entirely unrelated. Have you ever felt romantic feelings for anyone?" Ferb said.

"Gee, Ferb. I don't know. I haven't put much thought into it. I know that you liked Vanessa for a short time and Candace loves Jeremy, but I've never thought of love for myself. Django asked me about a month ago if It would be ok to ask one of the Fireside girls on a date. I don't remember who he was asking but I was really shocked that he was going to ask her. Maybe Katie? I mean we've only just finished sixth grade. And there was that whole boat ride thing with Baljeet and … Mishti was it? A few years ago. (A/N see authors note below for information if confused) I understand that other people can really love each other, but I just haven't felt that way. I understand that without romance, you and I wouldn't know each other, but I don't really get it. Listening to Love Handel is the closed I've gotten." Phineas responded.

Perry then toddled in and Phineas brightened. "Nobody is required to like people, so there is no reason to worry, right perry?" Perry made a sound at him. "Anyway, Its time to go to bed." Phineas sat on his bed and got uneath the covers. "Goodnight Ferb, goodnight Perry." He turned off the lamp with a click and started snoring as soon as his head hit the pillow.

For Ferb, it was a different matter.

He had a hard time falling asleep, like every night. Since it took so long, Ferb liked to review his day in the time before he was finally asleep.

Isabella, the situation really is hopeless. While I admire your dedication, you deserve more than my brother, who has never seen you as more than a permanent friend. Not that I am any smarter than you are, because surly you are coming to the same conclusion but... Isn't It time to move on? You've been in love with him for half of our lifetimes. Ferb decided that he would talk to her tomorrow before she came over to the Flynn-Fletcher's backyard, bright and early. Ferb knew that while he wasn't close with Isabella, she would listen to him. He knew Phineas better than Isabella, Baljeet and Buford combined, and Isabella recognized that. He also knew that Isabella would need someone to comfort her about the information he would share with her tomorrow, and he had former experience comforting people about love from his father's many failed attempts before he met Phineas and Candace's mom.

Ferb could still remember his mother even though she left him and his father when he was only three. She had bright green hair like his own and dark eyes. She was an architect who always got her way, but she had a soft spot for Ferb. She would always call him her 'tea cookie' and had the brightest smile when Ferb would build something. But she would also get ridiculously angry when Ferb or his Dad made a tiny mistake and would call Ferb's father horrible names to him and behind his back. One day, Ferb was helping her make cookies, ('A tea cookie for my tea cookie!') and his little arms dropped the big bowl by accident. Ferb apologized quietly and his mother screamed at him, calling him names no child should have to be at the end of and said that he was a mistake. Ferb's father had heard all the commotion and rushed in to stop it. As soon as he heard what his wife was saying, he gathered the whimpering Ferb in his arms and told her to get out. She said that she was planning to anyway.

Ferb has never seen her since.

His Father mailed all of her belongings to her brother's house and that was the end of it. Still, his father cried often, claiming that she was always a perfectionist, but didn't realize things had gotten so out of hand. Ferb was very mature for his age and tried to console his father as best he could. Laurence soon got a job offering in America and moved as quickly as possible

Ferb drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

(A/N the following is not part of the story!)

So I perceive the episodes of the tv show take place when Phineas, Ferb, and all their friends are ten, going into the fifth grade, while this story would take place when they are going twelve, going into seventh grade. According to this timeline, Linda and Laurence would have met each other when Phineas and Ferb are four and soon got married.

The next chapter is probably going to mostly contain Ferb's conversation with Isabella.
