Hiccup joined Astrid's side as they circled around the Titan. The two other Flyers had joined the fight, throwing them off their leader's flanks.
"Two Singetails and a Titan against the six of us?" said Astrid, wondering if her leader was serious about taking them on.
"Eh. Could be worse," said Hiccup, shrugging. "We've had much more challenging fights before. We can handle this."
"I know we can," she said, dodging a blast. "What I'm saying is if it's worth it?"
"If we don't stop Krogan here, he'll chase us till he gets what he wants," explained Hiccup, trying to find a way to take out Krogan without injuring the dragon.
"But he wants you," said Astrid, concerned. Hiccup didn't turn around to meet her gaze.
"Exactly my point," said Hiccup before diving in and ordering his dragon to fire. The warning shot flew right in front of Krogan's face, bringing his attention to the Night Fury. Krogan growled low as he watched the dragon double back to hover before him. His rider didn't look very pleased either. "You want me? Then come and get your prize!"
Krogan stared angrily but decided to accept the challenge. His expression turned to one of content as he kicked his Singetail's sides. Toothless narrowed his eyes, waiting for the Titan to get closer before diving down, soaring low above the trees. He peaked under his wing to see the fiery red dragon quickly gaining on them. He sensed his tailfin change position and Toothless climbed to the sky rapidly, putting distance between him and the enemy chasing behind.
"We need a better plan, bud," said Hiccup, leaning in on the saddle as they climbed the sky as straight as an arrow. Toothless roared in reply and Hiccup knew he was fully agreeing with him. The Rider looked back, seeing the Singetail still a safe distance away. They'd be losing him if they gained too much altitude. Hiccup needed Krogan to stay hot on his tail. His eyes moved around quickly as he scanned the island, trying to come up with something. Then he remembered the cave. "Toothless! Head down for the Northern Cave!"
Toothless retrieved his tongue inside his mouth and tucked his gigantic black wings to his sides. They plummeted down like a boulder. The Night Fury only spread his wings when they were almost in Krogan's range. They flew right by, too fast for the Titan to even think about firing at them.
"Come on, Krogan!" yelled Hiccup over his shoulder. The Flyer didn't take long to catch up with them. The Rider looked over his shoulder again, making sure he was still following. "That's it. Keep up."
They approached the other Riders doing a fine job fighting off the other two Flyers. Hiccup made sure Krogan was still after him and Toothless before entering the cave, wings tucked tight. The Night Fury's vision adjusted quickly, his toxic green eyes glowing bright against the dark background. Hiccup could tell Krogan had fallen for it by the loud roar of the Singetail echoing all around.
"Come on, bud, just a little faster," said Hiccup, leaning down to avoid any sharp rock that might be sticking out of the ceiling. Toothless turned the corners sharply. It was like every single one of his moves had been planned ahead. Hiccup could barely see, holding tight to the handles. "Hopefully there's a loop at the end of this."
Luck seemed to be by their side and the duo doubled back. Hiccup heard crashing behind them and guessed the Titan wasn't so sharp on corners after all.
"Ha ha!" cheered Hiccup, looking over his shoulder. He couldn't make out the whole scene but he could tell Krogan had at least been slowed down thanks to that loop. That was all they needed. They just had to fly out of here and blast that cave. And boom, Krogan would no longer be a problem.
But Krogan knew what Hiccup was up to. He narrowed his eyes and hurried his dragon to move faster. The Dragon Rider was almost out. Krogan would only get one shot at this.
"Oh no. You're not getting away that easily," he muttered, readjusting his position. He tugged on the chains and the Titan prepared his fire.
The bright clearing from outside the cavern was growing wider. Hiccup smiled. They were almost out. He looked over his shoulder one last time to make sure Krogan was still far behind. But what he saw made his heart sink. Multiple fireballs were coming right at them, their bright flames shining brighter than the outside world.
"Toothless, look out!" he shouted but his dragon couldn't dock the blows properly. One grazed his wing, sending Toothless rocking out of balance. Another hit the clearing outside and the final blew up on his back. They were out of the cave by then. They crashed in the clearing, raising a heavy cloud of dust all around them. The smoke of Titan's blasts didn't help either.
The last blast had Hiccup thrown off the saddle before they ever even made it back on Earth. He hit the ground hard, tumbling for a few yards before colliding against the trunk of a tree where he stayed unmoving for a while. Everything hurt. His ears rang loudly and all the heavy noises seemed distant. He couldn't see a thing. Not Toothless or Krogan. The sky was blocked by dust and smoke. It was like being stuck in a fog bank. Hiccup blinked multiple times from where he sat, not daring make a move yet. He felt disconnected from the world like he was just a lost soul wandering around the chaos. He was disoriented too. He could hear the familiar roars from his dragon but just couldn't tell where they were coming from. He tested his fingers and then his neck. He was standing back up before he knew it. He didn't feel the haste yet. He tried to regulate his breathing but it only quickened. The menacing screeches from the mighty Titan Singetail echoed all around and Hiccup knew he'd be dead meat if he stayed put. He looked around, backing off from the clearing and into the woods behind him. The roars went on, triggering a rush of adrenaline to flow through his veins and Hiccup took off, away from the battlefield.
His legs and arms hurt badly. Hiccup couldn't tell whether it was from running or from the soreness of the fall. All he knew was that he was in pain. But he also knew that he had to keep going. He panted, completely panicked and disoriented. He didn't even know where he was going. All he knew was that he couldn't let Krogan get him. He looked up at the sky through the canopy of leaves, making sure there was no shadowy form of a double-winged dragon pursuing him.
When he made it deep enough into the thick forest of Sleipnir Island, Hiccup slowed down to a walk. He looked behind him multiple times; hoping none of the Dragon Hunters had seen him take off and decided to follow him. But the path he'd borrowed was clear. Hiccup swallowed thickly, his lungs working hard to provide the oxygen in his tired limbs. All he wanted to do was collapse and rest but he couldn't stop. The adrenaline had gone by now and Hiccup was left with the pain of the burns and cuts from crashing with Toothless. Everything stung. The Rider touched his face, feeling the sting on his jawline. But touching the injury didn't help in the least. He winced and looked at his hand for blood. His fingertips were bone dry. He probably only had a bad rug burn. Still, it was painful. He wouldn't be surprised if the rest of his wounds were similar to this one.
He kept walking, looking up at the sky for any sign of the Riders. He would be very grateful if they could find him this soon. But something told him his rescue was going to be a little bit more complicated. He was now lost on a deserted island. He couldn't go out into the open, risking the enemy to find him. That meant he couldn't notify the Riders of his location. Getting out of this particular mess wouldn't be a piece of cake. This was a real hunt. Which begged the question… Which hunter would be first to catch the prey?
HERE WE GO!
Hope you liked that one :)
Okay, so I've recently been rewatching a few episodes from RTTE and you know that one episode "Snotlout's Angels"? Snotlout says something to Astrid that she really can't digest. Even Tuffnut is like"You did what?! Are you insane?" Well, very little people who worked on that episode know what exactly it was Snotlout said... Which bugs me. But I got my suspicions. A word... that Dreamworks couldn't allow into this series 'cause it's a bad word. :( You let me know what you think!
But anyway, how are you guys holding up? What are you doin' to keep busy during this coronapocalypse?
