Where is he? Blackkit surveyed the camp, looking for Copperkit's distinctive red-brown fur, but it was nowhere to be seen. Ugh. He's so good at this game. Hmmm…. She headed toward the elders den. He might be hiding in here. "Eagleleap, have you seen Copperkit anywhere?" Blackkit asked innocently. "No, I can't say I have." Eagleleap said loudly, with a little flick of her tail, pointing to the back wall, where there was a flash of ginger fur. Hah! I've found you now… "Thanks for your help." Blackkit said to her with a wink. "I'll go look somewhere else." She began creeping up on Copperkit, and launched at him with a yowl. "Found you!" Copperkit let out a shriek of surprise and fell to the floor, where he and Blackkit tussled briefly. "I thought I actually had a good hiding place this time!" Copperkit exclaimed, shaking scraps of leaves from his pelt. "Not good enough, apparently." Eagleleap shrugged. "Your sister almost missed you! Luckily she has sharp eyes." She gave Blackkit a secret glance, and Blackkit smiled in response. "Thanks, Eagleleap, but it was honestly just luck." "Come on, Blackkit, let's play again!" Copperkit exclaimed, bounding out of the elder's den, Blackkit behind him. "Bye, Eagleleap." Blackkit mewed, dipping her head politely to the elder. Blackkit lowered her voice. "And thank you for the help." "Anytime." Eagleleap nodded before settling back into her nest. Blackkit went back to the small clearing beside the nursery and settled beside her brother. "Do you want-" Blackkit started, but Seedkit's excited yowl cut her off. "Copperkit! Blackkit! Come on! Frondpaw and Mousepaw offered to teach us fighting moves!" "Ooh!" Copperkit dashed toward them, Blackkit following him more slowly. "Hey!" Blackkit nearly walked into Adderpaw, who glared at her. "Watch where you're going, will you?" "S-sorry." Blackkit stammered, hurriedly joining her brother. "Why is Adderpaw so scary?" Blackkit whispered. "I don't know." Copperkit glanced curiously at Adderpaw, who was now grooming himself, a permanently grumpy expression on his face. "He's kind of mean, honestly." "Well, I did get in his way." Blackkit explained. "It's honestly my fault." "What is SHE doing here?" Lightkit's high voice interrupted their conversation. "And him, for that matter." "They're allowed to watch." Thawkit shrugged. "Them being a moon younger doesn't matter." "Well, we're going to be apprentices sooner." Lightkit sniffed haughtily. "They don't need to learn this stuff as early, especially that one. She's so small and strange, there's no way she'll be a warrior. And her eyes are weird." Blackkit wished she could disappear. Other cats in this Clan are small too, and cats have strange eyes beside me! Why am I so different?! "Who are you calling a freak?" She looked up to see Forestfur staring down at Lightkit angrily. "My eyes are just the same as hers." "Oh, s-sorry Forestfur." Lightkit mewed apologetically. "I didn't mean-" Forestfur had already padded away. "Just be careful what you say, Lightkit." "Hah!" Copperkit exclaimed. "I hope she learned a lesson." "I feel bad for her. I don't like being scolded either, especially by such an important warrior like Forestfur." "Why do you feel bad for her?" Copperkit tilted his head, confused. "She was being mean to you." "Yeah, but…" Blackkit didn't know how to explain. "I don't know." Copperkit shrugged and turned his attention to Frondpaw and Mousepaw, who had also been joined by Thistlepaw.
Blackkit couldn't help feeling excited as she shared a small mouse with her brother that evening. I learned warrior moves! Awesome! I can't help feeling guilty for learning how to hurt other cats, though. I hope there won't be a battle when I'm an apprentice. "I hope there will be a battle when I'm an apprentice!" Copperkit exclaimed. "I'd be able to fight off everyone!" Thistlepaw smirked. "We only taught you basic fighting moves, mouse-brain." Thistlepaw teased. "You'll have to wait until you're an apprentice to learn anything else." "Mouse-dung!" Copperkit sat down grumpily. "I'm NEVER going to be an apprentice! It's two moons away!" "It's not that long." Blackkit took another bite of mouse. "We'll be apprentices before you know it." Later that night, Blackkit curled up beside her father Sagestreak and Copperkit, exhausted. That was an exciting day! But I can't help worrying about something… I feel so different compared to the other kits. Why am I so different? I just know that fighting is wrong… if you kill some cat, that blood will be on your paws forever… ugh. What if Lightkit is right? What IF I'm never a warrior?!
These are kind of shortish, but this is my first story, so I'm still getting the hang of writing like this and the chapters should get longer soon. Also, since this is my first story, please, if you have advice, I will always take it!
