Chapter 1
"You're not gonna actually call for them, are you?" Kapoc snorted, his dark green scales made him look menacing as his face twisted into a sneer. His talons dug deeper into Boa's forearm.
"Well, I wasn't going too." Boa hissed, curling her tail around his ankle and pulling it out from under him. He squeaked loudly, slamming onto the ground with a thump. Boa's eyes widened as she realized she had made a grave mistake.
"Boa! I thought I told you-"
"You're not serious, are you?" Boa tried to shut out the green seeping into her dark blue scales as she whipped around to face her teacher.
Vine gapped at her, "Well, we haven't chosen any other dragonet, so I wouldn't see why not." He stomped forward angrily, his talons indenting the wooden floor. "What a shame you don't get to say goodbye." He growled threw gritted teeth. He latched onto her forearm, and flew her back to her hammock. Boa reached for the rope the hammock was tied to, and started to untie it, unwrapping it from the tree. She then started on the other.
"Is there anything else you want that's not here?" He waved his arm over the pile of stuff she had. He glanced back at her, and his gaze softened.
"I don't think so." Boa stared at her collection of the "Legends of The Mockingbirds". They were filled with accounts of the dangerous missions they went on, the connections they had with each other. Boa craved it all. Every last drop of their story that was in the Rainwing's library was her's, and they didn't care.
"I'll get a bag." Vine flicked his tail, and flew off. Boa nodded, and started to fold up her hammock.
Boa didn't care she didn't get to say goodbye. No one did to her. Why should she? She sighed as she tried to mold the scrolls into an orderly fashion, I wonder if anyone will miss me. Then she thought of Treefrog. She thought Treefrog might miss her. Right? It didn't matter anyway. She was sure to see her again someday. After she was done at this new school the Rainwings were going to start up with the other tribes. A school just for female dragons.
From what she knew, this school was a special training school, in case of an emergency that needed warriors to fight. But, most dragons knew it was because of the new prison island the founded, and the new dragons they found on it.
They were called Mountainwings, with a gray-scale of colors. They were built like a skywing, with slightly smaller wings. Wings that they couldn't fly well on. They had weird shovel noses, which they couldn't see in front of, having to look slightly sideways or slightly down. They had a shovel tail as well, thick talons for digging, and a tiny appetite. Thick skin covered them like armor, the royals even had gems embedded in their scales at birth. Queen Silver was an interesting dragon, from the words of Boa's Queen, but all the other tribes accepted them in well.
Their island was almost pure mountains, with one main mountain in the middle, with their castle sitting atop it. It was made solely of marble, making it hard to miss.
The Mountainwings made a deal with the other tribes to keep their dangerous dragons there. Dragons who liked to fight a little too much, or need to be watched at all times. The reason why they needed the other tribes there was to keep watch in the sky. Mountainwings only trained their royals to fly, even the trainers couldn't fly that well. If a dragon were to break out, the Mountainwings wouldn't be much help in the sky.
The Queens had all made a deal. When there were two full moons, there must be 14 female dragonets and 14 male dragonets to train the other Mountainwing dragonets to fly. Why the Mountainwings were so strict on gender, Boa wasn't sure, but she would probably find out once she got there.
Boa snapped out of thought bubble as Vine came bag with a pitiful bag. "That'll have to do." He shrugged as he held the bag in front of her to fill up. Boa stuffed down the hammock, then threw in her scrolls in. It was filled to the brim with her collection, only leaving a few Boa had to carry. "You ready to go?" Vine tried to give her an inviting smile. His turquoise scales started to turn a dark purple, most likely with guilt.
I don't think so, I'd rather stay here. "Sure." Boa shrugged, unsure of what to say. She realized rain had started to patter on the leaves above.
Vine grumbled, "We'll have to go in the morning," he glanced around, "In case this is a-" Thunder clapped suddenly, making his scales fash a pale green. "Thunderstorm." He whimpered, and dashed off.
"See you in the morning." Boa snorted as she climbed up a tree, and hung upside down. I wonder if someone will miss me?
Boa woke from the joyful singing of Treefrog, "It's time to go, c'mon let's go! Let's take our wings to the sky!"
Boa started giggling, "You're not going too, are you?" She opened her eyes to watch an upside-down picture of the yellow Rainwing frolicking around the trees. She hopped down to her hammock, making the trees it was connected to groan. Boa slid off her tree, making everything turn right-side-up again.
"Of course I'm going! You're my best friend, where else would I go?" Her scales flashed green with worry. Oh Treefrog, that's not what I meant. Treefrog's words pulled at Boa's heart. At least someone would miss me.
"Just asking," Boa picked up her bag filled with scrolls, "I wouldn't want to be with Parrot." Treefrog giggled, covering her mouth.
Vine landed on a branch beside them. "I can't believe I'm letting this happen." He shook his head, making Treefrog giggle more. Vine shot her a stern glance, then sighed, "Are you guys ready to go?" He glanced up at the sky, "Since we have no delays this time."
Treefrog tried to stop her giggling as she untied her hammock from the tree. "Yep." She tied the ropes around her neck, letting the folded up hammock hang down too her chest. Boa rounded up her stray scrolls, and nodded.
"Let's go then, my patience with both of you is-" He shook his head, "You're not even listening are you?"
Boa wasn't, she was whispering with Treefrog about the new island they were going to. It was in between the Rainforest and the Desert, somewhat far from Pyrrhia. It would take a day's journey without stopping even for a Skywing get there.
"This will be an interesting ride." Boa glanced at Treefrog, who smiled back at her.
"At least you'll protect me," Treefrog nudged Boa playfully, "right?"
"Sure." Boa rolled her eyes as they lifted off.
Boa took one last glance at her home, as they flew away out to sea.
