District 3: Flux Volt

"Where is it?" I mumble under my breath. My eyes scan the floor. It was littered with unfinished gadgets, springs, nails, cords and all such stuff before finding what I was looking for.

I reach out and almost drop my precious gadget while doing so but I manage to grab the screw driver before any real damage occurs.

"Flux! It's time for breakfast!" Flow calls out while opening my door with a bang. I jump to my feet, feeling like a deer in the headlights as she surveys the scene before her. Stuff thrown everywhere, my hair a ratty mess and my eyes swollen and baggy.

"How long have you been here." He says softly, gesturing to the floor. I feel my cheeks burn in shame as I mumble "I dunno, midnight I guess?" I wince as I hear him gasp and brace myself for the argument that is about to unfold.

We head into the dining room with sore throats from yelling so much. I notice that Flow has prepared breakfast. I look around and I see that my parents aren't here. Flow seems to read my mind "They'll meet you after The Reaping." He states warmly "To celebrate the last year."

I brighten slightly at this. It's true that this is my last year. Then I won't have to worry about The Hunger Games and I can pursue my dream. To become an inventor for the Capitol just like my parents.

I look at Flow and smile as He ruffles my short hair. "They will be proud of you." He says. "Mom and Dad." He confirms as I look at him hopefully.

"Let's pray to Panem that they do big bro." I answer back before biting into a piece of bread.

District 3: Digit Jans

I open my wardrobe to find the suit that has been set out for me for The Reaping. My nose scrunches as it usually does when I am worried. This will be my first year yet I have four slips in that bowl. I might be fine now but the future odds don't seem to be in my favor. Especially now that my baby brother Krist is on the way.

I shake my head to remove my toxic thoughts and distract myself by quickly stuffing my suit in my bag. I don't think I will come back until after The Reaping. I check to make sure that none of my family members have woken up before opening the door quietly.

I walk down the midnight streets, breathing in the cool night air. I head over to my favourite hiding spot, a little cave thing made by precariously piling rocks on top of each other. I sit and pull my apple and crunch on it peacefully. I look and marvel at all the sleeping households. Except for one.

The Volt family, I wouldn't call it a mansion but instead a very large house still had a light on. My neutral face turns into a scowl when I think about the Volts. Jarana and Lexington Volt are the owners of several successful inventing labs.

I've heard that they have two children and I secretly hope that they are drawn. I doubt that it will happen because they probably didn't have to take tesserae.

I throw my apple core into the grass and get up to find a private spot to change. The only thought going through my head is I'm gonna be fine. I'll go home after The Reaping and everything will be fine.

District 4: Azure Reef

I pace around outside of the closed door of my bedroom. What is taking her so long?

"Come in!" Verna shouts through the door.

"Finally!" I say as I enter. I'm slightly taken aback at the stunning dress before me.

"Do you like it?" She says cautiously. I turn and see her thin frame in the doorway. "I love it!" I exclaim. She runs towards me and hugs me tight with her skinny arms. "Thank you" she whispers into my shirt.

I ruffle her messy orange hair and smile. My family often joked that she should have been born in District 8. With their trademark orange hair and passion for designing outfits. The only thing that marks her from District 4 is her classical sea green eyes.

I let go from our deep embrace and shoo her out of my room so that I can change. The outfit is comfortable and I smile. It has almost become a custom for Verna to make our outfits for the Reaping but this year she has outdone herself. The material closely hugs my body but fans out at the end. With the lovely iridescent quality of the fabric I have transformed into a mystical mermaid.

The blue hue of the fabric closely compliments my eyes for which I was named. My sparkling blue eyes are kind of a mystery in my family as none of my relatives have blue eyes. My mother said that they were a gift given to me by the gods of the ocean. My eyes tear up slightly at the thought of my mother and I sit down on my bed.

Mom always believed in these things. Spirits, horoscopes fate. She believed them to such an extent that it was almost funny. The door opens slowly and I see Verna. "Are you ok?" She says, I can hear the concern in her voice.

"I'm fine." I say thickly. She sees the tears and understands immediately.

"Is it about Mom?" I nod slightly and she comes in for a hug. I look at the clock and realise that we should probably get going.

"Go get Lenny and Papa okay? I'll be fine." Vara looks at me, unsure but then exits the room to find the rest of the family. I take a tissue from a little box on my bedside table. You'll be fine. Just 4 more years and it's over. I get off my bed, throwing the tissue into the bin. Verna only has 2 entries this year. She'll be fine and so will I.

District 4 : Troy Carper

"Troy! Where are you? Troy!"

I giggle at the sound of my brother searching for me. I had snuck out of my bed and was waiting for how long it would take for my family to notice and find me. I had also stolen Dad's stopwatch that he used to time swimmers at his swim school.

I peer out of the woven fibres that made up the laundry basket. Any second they would come upstairs and see the pile of clothes near the basket and I would be caught. My prediction became reality as Mom came upstairs to check if I was there.

"Thirteen minutes and forty-eight seconds!" I yell, jumping out of the basket as soon as Mom had lifted the lid. She looked furious.

A session of yelling and scolding later I was being dragged by my arm down the stairs. I see the rest of my family waiting for me down stairs. That's when it clicked in my thirteen year old brain.

"Oh… It's The Reaping right?" I say. That was why my Mom was so upset! I think. A few years back we had decided to not play any tricks on The Reaping because everyone was already so stressed. Unfortunately this year I had forgotten.

"When we get home you are going straight to your room and we are going to have a chat." Says Dad sternly. I nod in obedience and scurry off to put on my clothes.

Authors Notes:

Hello again! Thanks for reading my fan fiction! I am going to continue doing this two districts at a time and then I will do President Luna Snow watching The Reapings. If you are reading this in the future you can skip these parts. They are just to bring some backstory to the characters.

If you have any suggestions please leave a review and tell me! Also if you want to suggest a character I would love to hear your input. Thanks again for reading and have a nice day/night!
