Despite our excitement to go, our trip to California is no vacation. It's in fact an invitation to a training camp in Los Angeles. It was a gift after our battle in Nabu Island. Apparently, the CEO saw the news and were friends with our homeroom teacher and Present Mic.
This center is meant for the quirk and quirkless self-defense. It's amazing how some heroes give the time to train those who are powerless against them.
After the long almost ten-hour flight, all twenty of us sat in a private bus on our way to the coast where the center takes place. It's a two week trip so our luggage crowded our seats and there are no overhead canisters to hold our stuff. It's even worse that it's a small bus we are riding in. It is only a coincidence that Todoroki sits next to me. Most of the seats were taken so I had no choice but to sit next to him. Not that it is bad, just very awkward. I avoided eye contact and so did Todoroki, staring out the window.
The silence kills every second of it. I adjust my posture with my bag and face my seating partner. "I'm so excited, Todoroki. Yet so nervous."
His eyes glance at me, "Why should you be nervous Midoriya?"
Actually, I don't really know but at the tip of my head, I found a reason why. "I guess it's because we are going to train at not just a new place and center, but at a new country." I explain to him, "We don't know how they train heroes here or how it works. The trainers here might have different strategies. Different from ours. It's a little nerve racking don't you think?"
A nod. He gave me a simple nod. "I guess, but there is nothing to be worried about. Think about it. We have a stronger advantage than many other students. A lot of UA students don't get the opportunity to learn internationally which gives us new knowledge of attack and defense mechanisms. It's quite exciting too if you ask me." His full attention turned to me, "You said this place trains the quirkless correct?"
"Yes but that's not why I'm excited."
Todoroki's eyes peak with curiosity. "Really?"
"Yeah! Do you know the CEO? The one Aizawa is friends with?"
"Yes. I guess you're excited to meet her."
Something like that. "Well, not exactly. It's her sidekick that I'm so eager to meet."
Confusion was shown clearly on his face. "What? Her sidekick?"
"Yeah. Destiny, the Fearless Hero!" I say with exhilaration making the half hot and half cold student jump off his seat. "Her quirk is said to be almost useless, but she makes up for it with her marksmanship and she's about our age!"
Todoroki laughs at my fanboying. "Our age? From your description of her, you must have had a celebrity crush on Destiny before."
My big red blush from the classroom yesterday returns. "Not really. I just admire her a lot. That's it. I admire her as much as anyone. As much as I do to Kacchan. Uraraka. You." I dragged my last word. Mainly because I was distracted by the surprised look on Todoroki's face.
"Me?"
No hesitation, I nod. "Of course Todoroki. Why wouldn't I? You inspire me Todo-kun." For a second, my relationship with Uraraka disappeared and all I cared about is Todoroki right now. I love him with all my heart. My hand moves over his without even thinking. Todoroki flinched from my touch. His left hand. His fire quirk. Speaking of which, my green eyes began to glow from the small flames from him. "Oh no! Todoroki! You're on fire!" I try removing my hand to help him extinguish the fire, "Should I-"
My concern didn't faze him, in fact his hand stopped mine from moving and his grip only tightened. His gaze was stuck to the ground. "No. I'm alright. You did nothing wrong. I thank you for your admiration."
I smiled at his compliment and all I said about him and Destiny, they were true. If I wasn't busy training here and dating Uraraka, I would love to talk to her sometime.
(Yes, I have finally discovered line breaks. And yes, I am an idiot)
I was eavesdropping on Deku and Todoroki's conversation. He really admires me and I love it, but the way he mentions Todoroki... He never looked at me the way he did at Todoroki. And if he really liked him, there is a possible chance Todoroki likes him back. Lucky. I should ask him so I can help him confess. That way I might have a chance with Bakugou! Although, it might be rude to use him. I might be jumping to conclusions.
"I don't know who Destiny is but her hero partner is really...hot." All girls make a face from Mineta's wording, drooling all over his phone before Jiro stands from her seat and slaps Mineta in the face. "Pervert."
"Quiet down everybody!" All eyes pointed to Aizawa, eyes glowing red and hair flying high. Terrifying. Mr.Aizawa deactivates his quirk and stands, leaning on the window closest to the driver. Why is he standing while the bus is moving? The driver had the same question but Aizawa only made a face that had barely any emotion at all. "We are here."
"Already?"
I press my fingers on the window to my right. Tsu leans over me to do the same. A four story building painted white. If I didn't know it was a training center, I would believe it's a hotel. The sea water reflects off the glass, nearly blind us yet it's so beautiful.
Once the bus stops, I grab my luggage, my backpack, and my suit. It's hard to carry all at once but I succeeded to keep them in my arms and get off the bus. Sort of. On my way out, I hear Deku rush me and call my name outside. "Uraraka! Over here."
I looked up to find my friend but my arms were so crowded, I was too busy making sure I had all my stuff and running down the stairs to catch up with Deku, I didn't watch my feet. My legs got all tangled up and lost balance. "Aah!"
"Watch it!" Someone grabbed my arm and my body fell into someone's arms, my stuff on the ground. In fear of ground impact, my eyes stayed shut. "Oi round face!" Round face? Only one person calls me that and it's..
"Bakugou?"
His grip was tight on my forearms but not that hard. It was quite gentle if you ask me but not too gentle to drop me. Speaking of which, once Bakugou and I make eye contact, the angry pomeranian lets go of my arms."Keep your balance you idiot! How can you be a hero if you can't get off the bus properly? That damn nerd is rubbing off of you."
Despite his rude behavior, Bakugou extends his hand to me. I take it hesitantly and he pulls me up close to his chest. Have I ever been this close to him before? Shock was an obvious look for him. A red blush was new. Why can't you like me back, Bakugou?
"Okay everyone! Line up by your student numbers in a straight line!" Thank you Iida.
I push off Bakugou and walk to my friend as I giggle away the five second moment I had. Ignoring the strange feeling in my chest, I place a hand on my very tall friend. "Will you chill out for a minute Iida? I assure him in concern.
Mina stretches her arms out, dropping her bags. "Wow! It's so hot here! Feels kind of nice."
Kaminari wipes a sweat off his forehead. "Is California always this humid? And it's winter nevertheless."
"No. Just humid." The voice. It's male. We all turn to the sound. The man seemed familiar, and he seemed buff enough to be a pro hero. His knight-like armor was thinner and the revealing parts of the armor were water. "Hello children. You all must be Class 1-A from UA. I am the pro hero the Mariner, the one of the owners and founders and this is my wife, Nerve Rack, our CEO."
So she's the hero Mr.Aizawa was talking about. They stop walking and stand in front of us. I gaze at the woman beside Mariner. "Hi!" She says so sweetly, hands close to her cheek. "It's so nice to meet you all." So much pink and gold! If I know anything, clothing looks so bubbly except for the serious smile on her face. But if she's a cheery girl, how is she friends with Aizawa? He hates Ms.Joke already. Scratch that. He's married to a man who screams at people for a living.
They look and sound so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Luckily, Deku is smart. "I know you! You're the Water Knight hero of the Elementals! You guys are a hero group that can materialize and turn into the four of the elements. Even better, you are all family! Quadruplets! The Mariner is the second oldest!"
Quadruplets? I never saw quadruplets in my entire life. Twins maybe, but not four of them. I remember him now. It was a long time ago but when I was in fifth grade, I had to do an essay on a hero that my teacher randomly selected. The hero I got was The Mariner's older sister, Ember Swift, the Lava Knight Hero. While I was searching her up, I discovered the Mariner when reading an article. Mr.Mariner crossed his arms and looked at Deku dead in the eye with a hint of amusement. "You sure know your stuff kid."
"And you're the Monarch Hero!" Deku turned directly at Mrs.Nerve Rack, who seemed to can't stop smiling at the brocoli-haired boy, "Your quirk can control a person's brain through the enhanced nerves throughout your body. I read in an article that there was another Nerve Rack many years ago, and she was your mother. You took her name after she retired from her hero work."
So there's another Nerve Rack. She's like Iida. Iida took his brother's name after Stain nearly killed him. We all watched her eyes drop with sincerity, "She was a great hero. An honorable one." Her small smile regained and placed a hand on his head and smiled gently. "You're so smart. You remind me of a boy back in highschool!" I look at where she was eyeing and find an embarrassed Aizawa trying to hide in his scarf. Strangely adorable. "But please, call me Mrs.Tekkado or Lotus for all I care. Mrs.Cho is my sister-in-law and she hates me." Which one?
Deku blushed and bowed in politeness before joining us in line. "She's nice." I comment to the green-haired boy.
Mrs.Tekkado blushes and tries so badly to hide it before her husband elbows the Monarch Hero in the side. "Don't listen to her." We all wince at Mrs.Tekkado's sudden pain. She held her stomach. "You are not at UA anymore. This is the HQ, the House of Quirks. Here, you are not students. You are now pro heroes!" What does that mean?
Tekkado recovered quickly and copied her husband's stance. "Ugh. Unfortunately, he's correct. First, what the hell Sil! Second, yes. For your entire two weeks here, you will be treated as the real thing. Your codenames are now your only names, so I do not advise anyone to call each other by their real names. This will prevent bad habits that would ruin your future. You will now call your instructors by their given hero names. Today and for the next few days, you will now eat, sleep and breathe our training strategy."
The two heroes spin on their heels and turn to face away from us and start walking towards their building. "Follow us. We shall take you inside where my sidekick shall disable your quirks."
"Did she just say she'll disable our quirks?"
As we followed our new instructors to the building, Aizawa walked past us and next to Mrs.Tekkado-I mean Nerve Rack. I can't help but eavesdrop. "Since when you were married? The last time I saw you, you were yelling at Midnight when she set you up on a dating site."
She scratches the back of her neck. "Uh, yeah right. I got engaged about two to three years ago? Hehehe. I'm sorry Shouta."
He shakes his head, "It's fine but you have a lot of explaining to do to Hizashi when I get home."
Nerve Rack lifts her hands up to her cheeks. She's definitely blushing. "Oh please don't tell Yama-chan. He will ask me so many questions." She groans, her ears turning red. "I'd rather go through a five-hour interview at the Hollywood Bowl than tell him about my marriage." Aizawa only chuckled quietly, not answering her begging comment.
"Speaking of which, did Yama-Chan propose to you yet?"
"Uh! I-Uh...yes…"
"FINALLY!"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN FINALLY?!"
They became too far for my ears to hear, but from their body language, I can tell it's a funny conversation. Meanwhile, Nerve Rack's word rang in my head. "Remove our quirks." I repeated as my eyes went down to my hands. How can I ever be a hero without my quirk? It makes sense. Mr.Aizawa did say this is a training center for quirkless people but removing our quirks is like removing an arm or a leg. I am curious though. How are they supposed to remove our quirks? They created a drug to destroy quirks, don't tell me they have those too. I guess we have to find out.
Destiny, The Mariner, and Nerve Rack are my OCs. The Mariner won't be that important, but Destiny will be to this story later on. So will Nerve Rack too but more later. I will try my best to not mention OCs so much but Destiny and Nerve Rack are the only ones so far you should remember later on. In the meantime, you can forget them for a while.
Also, it's my birthday today and I really wanted to post the next chapter today!
Goodbye (insert last year's age here)...
Hello (insert my new age here)!
Have a good day!
Enjoy!
