After English Chloe gave Kai her number and they agreed to work on the project after school in the library. They headed off to their next class science with the ninja snickering. "Please trade partners with me." Kai pleads with them. "Heck no I'm not dealing with her." Nya said and Kai groaned. "Come on hothead I thought you liked flirting with girls." Cole said. "I am more mature now. Besides she doesn't seem like the nicest person." Kai said. "And Skylor would punch your lights out if she found out." Jay said. "That too." Kai adds with a smile. "Tell her your unavailable." Lloyd said. "I did she ignored me." Kai said. "Hey if you like I can always zap her." Jay offers before being shushed by the others. "What part of low profile don't you get? We can't use our powers Wu said so." Lloyd chides in a whisper. "Just because he sent us here for the rest of the year doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun. Besides I was joking." Jay said. "Well be more careful if people here found out it would not help." Zane said.
As they continued on into the chem lab they once again got partnered up and Jay got put with a girl with tanned skin and glasses. "So you're good at building things?" She asked. "Yep I like to its fun what's your name?" Jay asked the girl. "I'm Alya I saw you talking to Kai and Nya did you already know them?" Alya asks suspiciously. "Uh yeah Nya's actually my girlfriend." Jay said. "What did her brother think about it?" Alya asks. "He lets Nya make thoughs calls but still gives people a glare if they flirt with her. But it means I don't need to worry about people flirting with her." Jay said and Alya laughs a bit.
Cole was paired with Marionette who seemed rather distracted while they were writing notes. "Earth to Marionette?" Cole said waving a hand infront of the girl who jumps up suddenly. "Hmm? What's wrong?" She asked looking around. "What were you staring at?" Cole asks as he follows her gaze to the boy Adrien. "You like him?" Cole asked and Marionette turned a deep shade of red. "No not at all it's fine let's just work." Marionette said scribbling stuff in her notebook. Cole sighs being reminded of how Jay used to act around Nya.
Adrien meanwhile was enjoying a good conversation with Lloyd who had no clue on what they were doing. "This is review from last year did you skip a year?" Adrien asks jokingly. "I was busy with stuff." Lloyd replies sheepishly. "Here you can copy my notes and review them later." Adrien said handing a grateful Lloyd his note book.
Suddenly the room smelled like smoke and the class turns to see the book case had caught fire. Most of them panic but the Zane grabbed a fire extinguisher and put it out before it could spread any further getting some of the white stuff on Chloe. "How dare you ruin my outfit! My father will hear about this." Chloe huffed even though he probably just saved the school from burning down. "Thank you that was smart thinking Zane. We shall continue this tomorrow once we figure out how the bookcase caught fire in the first place." The teacher said as everyone exited the room.
"Guess I should be more careful when play with the equipment." Plagg said from inside Adrien's book bag. "Plagg! What have I said about coming out during school? Someone could have seen you." Adrien chides his cat kwami. "Yeah yeah I never listened to anyone before why start now." Plagg said with a eye roll.
"I'm telling you I didn't do it." A voice from behind the corner said. Since he had twenty minutes and time to kill before his next class he stealthily looked around the corner to see the group of new kids surrounding the red one Kai Adrien remembers. "Then how did the case catch fire?" Nya asks accusingly. "I don't know maybe there was some faulty equipment." Kai defends himself. "That's a nice excuse Kai Wu's going to be hearing about this." Lloyd said and Kai stomps his foot. "I didn't do it!" He yells at them walking off. "Why do you think he set the case on fire?" Adrien said coming out from behind his hiding place. They all look startled clearly not seeing him there. "He was close by it just makes sense." Cole said quickly. "Well he didn't do it. I asked the teacher after everyone had left someone left a gas tank next to the heater and it caught fire." Adrien said telling half the truth. The kids all look guilty at one another. "I would go apologize before he gets akumatized." Adrien said. "What's that?" Zane asks. "There's this bad guy who uses his power to feed off the negative emotions of others. He sends a akuma after them and then they're under his complete control." Adrien explains. They all look worried and run off after Kai and Adrien gives Plagg a glare as he shrugs innocently.
Somewhere in Paris
In a dark room a window opens as hundreds of white butterflies flutter around a man in a purple suit with a cane. "It's never fun to be blamed by those you consider family for something that wasn't your fault. The perfect victim for my akuma." Hawkmoth said as a butterfly flew into his hand. He makes a crushing motion with it before opening it again to find that the butterfly had turned a evil purple. "Fly away my little akuma and evilize him!" Hawkmoth said as the akuma flew off into the city.
Back at school
Kai is silently fuming barely keeping his anger down when a girl walks into the locker room. He turns to see it was one of his new classmates Lila he thought her name was. "Why aren't you with your friends?" She asks. "None of your business." Kai said to her not making eye contact. He gets up but when he does a object falls out of his pocket and before he could grab it Lila takes it. She examines it to find it was a locket necklace. "I took you for a none jewelry type." Lila said smugly. "Give it back!" Kai yells at her reaching for it but Lila holds it out of his reach. She opens it to see a picture of a older man and women most likely his wife holding each other in a loving embrace. "Who's this? Your grandparents? It looks old." Lila said keeping it out of Kai's reach. "I said give it back!" Kai yelled at her again anger clear on his face.
"Give it back Lila." Marionette said with her arms crossed as she walks over to them. Lila huffs and throws it over her shoulder and Kai catches it like his life depended on it. "I was just curious." Lila said walking out of the room. Marionette turns to Kai who's fuming with anger clear. "Ignore her she isn't worth your time." Marionette said but Kai doesn't seem to hear her just starring at the locket. "Hey what's wrong?" Marionette asks putting a hand on his shoulder. "My family thinks I started the fire in the chem lab." Kai blurted out he was clearly hurt by it. Marionette isn't sure why they would assume that sure the fire was strange but I bet someone would've spotted him lighting a match.
"Why would they think that?" Marionette asks. "It's complicated they're just trying to protect us all but it still hurts especially since I didn't do anything. But hey always blame Kai every time something bad happens." Kai said. He didn't know why he was opening up to the girl but she seemed trustworthy. "I'm sure they didn't mean it just scared them." Marionette said and Kai calms down a bit. "Yeah I guess. It was pretty scary." Kai admits fingering the locket. "Why is that locket so special? Is it your sister's?" Marionette asks. Kai quickly shoved it in his pocket. "It's nothing." He said quickly.
"Kai! Come on we're sorry." The two hear Jay yell as he rounds the corner and spots the two talking. "Listen Kai were sorry it was wrong of us to assume." Jay apologized. That seemed to bright Kai's mood. "I might accept the apology zaptrap if you would be willing to trade partners in the assignments?" Kai said. Jay looked horrified at the idea. "I'm nowhere near that sorry." Jay said and Kai laughed. "I'm not that mean." Kai said. "Yeah I feel sorry for you." Marionette said and the two boys laugh. "Thanks Marionette your pretty cool." Kai said and Marionette beamed. They all leave the locker room unaware of the purple butterfly following them.
After school library
"So what do you think of this colour?" Chloe asks Kai as he writes some work down in his notebook. Kai bangs his head against the table and looks to his friends who were also in the library working on thier projects. "Are you gonna work on the project or not? Because if you don't pull your weight then I'm willing to fail." Kai said and Chloe blinks suprised no one had ever spoken to her like that. "I can always pay someone to do the work for me." Chloe said matter of fact as she does her nails.
Meanwhile Cole was coming along with his assignment quite well and has seemed to become good friends with Adrien and Nino. Nya was having fun talking to the girls about who knows what. Jay, Lloyd and Nathan weren't really talking and just stuck to the assignment. Zane and Sabrina had already finished it and were both reading a book quietly.
"Well I've finished my part you do the rest on your own." Kai said he gave Chloe his part of the assignment and got up and left the library. Chloe stares at him as he leaves most boys would at least put up with her thanks to her father but no one had ever dared to do that to her. She promptly got up grabbed all the notes and left the library in a huff.
Kai walks in on what looked like a after school fencing lessons in the court yard. The coach looked stressed as he was talking with what looked to be one of his students. "What do you mean your quitting? It's the middle of the season where can I find another student?" He asked the kid. "I'm sorry but the doctor's ordered me to stay out the rest of the season." The kid said. He left leaving the coach to wallow in self pity as Adrien crashed into Kai from behind clearly in a rush as he or his fencing gear on. The coach see's the boys tumble and gets very furious clearly he was already in a bad mood.
"Mr Agreste do I need to tell your father that you're late?" The coach asks. "Sorry coach I was working on a assignment and lost track of time." Adrien apologizes. "Your a experienced at fencing do you know any suitable replacements for the team?" He asks Adrien. Adrien thinks for a moment before turning to Kai who had just gotten up after rubbing his head. "What about you Kai? Cole told me you're pretty good with a blade when I mentioned fencing to him." Adrien suggests. "I'm more of a katana guy." Kai said dryly. "Good enough for me get in some gear your trying out for this team." The coach said. "But don't I have a choice?" Kai asked. "Not anymore now move!" The coach yells at them both and they rush off. "Hope you're as good as Cole said we're aiming for the championships this year." Adrien said as he handed Kai some fencing gear. "It's in my blood." He replies as he leaves to get changed.
Back at the library
After Chloe had left and Adrien ran off to fencing classes everyone had finished their projects quite quickly. "So what should we do now?" Jay asks. Nathan had left the moment they finished working saying he needed to sketch something. "We could watch the fencing practice." Marionette suggests to everyone. "Is there any club we could join?" Zane asks. "There's the chest club." Nino suggests remembering what Zane had said about liking chest earlier. "I think I will go join that." Zane said and left the room to go to the chest club room. "So are we going to watch the fencing or not?" Nino asks and they all shrug.
The ninja were so far having a okay time fitting in at this realm. They still didn't understand why Wu said they needed a proper education and sent them to do it in another realm but so far it was good. Though they still wanted to know more about this Hawkmoth guy he seemed bad. And if he found out about thier powers who knows what he's going to try. They all walk out to the court yard just in time for the coach to yell "begin!" One of the boys dueling was clearly Adrien as he dodged and strikes at his opponent. It was actually quite entertaining to watch as each person jabbed and dodged each attack even the coach seemed suprised that they had been dueling for so long. "Woah nobody's ever lasted this long against Adrien." Nino notes. "Wonder who he's dueling?" Marionette asks outloud. They all shrug as the opposite opponent does a tricky maneuver that made it look like he was swiping at the neck causing Adrien to duck even though he was heavily protected by his padding. This left his back open and the mystery opponent got him as the coach pressed the button to signal it was over. Adrien takes off his helmet to reveal his face and shake hands with his opponent always being a good sport.
"Great job! You weren't kidding when you said it was in your blood." Adrien said. The opponent takes off his helmet to reveal it was Kai who shakes Adrien's hand back. "Not so bad yourself next time I won't go easy." Kai said with a cocky grin. "Oh that was not you on easy mode." Jay calls out and the two boys turn not really noticing that their friends had come to watch. "Yeah more on medium." Cole adds. "I need you on the team." The coach said to Kai practically begging on his knees. Kai turned to the ninja since he did sorta needed thier approval for it and they give him the thumbs up. "Sure why not." Kai shrugs and the coach starts thanking him over and over.
Once practice had ended Adrien opened his locker to find Plagg sleepin inside a empty canister of canibar cheese. Ignoring the smell that brought Adrien just changed grabbed his stuff and left off to a modeling gig. He passed Kai on the way out who gave him a friendly wave that he gave back. Looks like I have some new friends. Adrien thinks to himself as he ran out.
"We better be heading back home." Nya said and the ninja agreed on that course of action. Zane comes walking up to them after exiting the chest club meeting with a proud look on his face. "You beat everyone in five seconds didn't you?" Nya said. "Actually it was two minutes but quite enjoyable I can't wait till the next meeting how did you all do on your assignments?" Zane asks. "Adrien and Nino are cool and we got it done in no time." Cole answers. "Marionette and Alya are funny but know when to work on what so we had fun." Nya said. "The Nathan kid doodles a lot I think we did most of the work." Jay replies. "I'm pretty sure the Chloe girl is going to hire someone to do her part of the assignment." Kai said. Everyone laughs feeling such pity for the fire ninja and he gives a playful glare. "Let's just go already." Kai said. The ninja each went into the bathroom and checked all the stalls before getting out the realm crystal and opening a portal into Ninjago.
Chloe's room
"Ugh I can't believe he made me do this all by myself." Chloe said as she scribbles down her work. She gets so mad at it that she flinges his notes to the ground out of anger and hears a odd cling! Noise accompanied it. She looks over and bends down to find a silver locket with a flaming hammer. She opens it and sees a couple smiling in the picture the resemblance to the man in the picture and Kai must mean it was a picture of his parents. "Hmm I wonder how this would look with that new top I got?" Chloe said as she tried on the locket and smiling at her reflection in the mirror.
