Who Would've Known
I took out Sato, since he contributed the least to the plot. I hope you guys won't be too mad, I love him, but it just wouldn't work. If you don't like don't read. I realized I forgot to post this in the first chapter, but please do NOT copy this book. That's all, and as always, enjoy!
A week passed by agonizingly slow. I went exploring at the nearest forest, attempted to sing and cook, visited the museum, and more. I even went to the park and asked the little kids what my hero name should be. I might not be accepted, but it was fun. The cute little ones came up with Swirly, Mask, Freeze, and some rather odd ones. They seemed to like the black swirls that surrounded my eyes like a mask. They were extremely delighted when they realised it glowed when I activated my quirk. Another day was spent playing solitaire, reading a book, and bingeing on TV even if the channels didn't particularly interest me. Both of my parents got a case to solve, so I got to have the house all to myself. My cousin, Amaterasu, came by one day. She was older than me by a year, but she acted like a child, barging straight into my house with no explanation, wearing a big purple sweater and black leggings.
"What school did you apply for?" she asked. She didn't even bother with any pleasantries, just plopped down next me on the black couch.
"UA," I replied.
" Wow, really?" She brushed her pink hair with black roots out of her face. "That's really cool! Even compared to being a moviestar in training!" That's right, I had forgotten my cousin was now an actress. She certainly fit the part though. She had a heart shaped face, great figure, and big purple eyes.
"The test would've been last week, so your acceptance letter should be here any day! Even today!" I nodded. She continued to talk.
"They let me have a day off, since they've moved me here to continue the film. I have until two, and then I'm off to see Mom and Dad for lunch, you wanna come?"
I shook my head. I didn't want to impose on her family time. Plus, I was comfortable on the couch. I listened to her as she told me all about what was happening with her life. I let her rant about everything from how good the food was to how annoying so and so was until time was up.
"Speaking of two o'clock, you should get going." I giggled, glancing at the clock.
"Hmm?" She smiled and glanced at the clock. It read 1:55. She squeaked, her face, ears, and neck turning a bright red. "I swear I only got here a few minutes ago!" I laughed.
"Bye,"
"Bye Nari, gotta run." She hastily pulled her shoes on and gathered her things before dashing off.
The door swung shut behind her. The TV played some bad romance comedy. I let it play as background noise while making instant noodles for lunch. Since I had nothing to do, I took a long bath and then a nap, only waking up when the doorbell sounded. I groaned and dragged myself downstairs to answer the door.
It was the postman, and he came bearing the super important envelope I had been waiting for all week. I walked around the house clutching it with both hands, sleepiness all but gone. I nervously chanted inside my head, 'I made it, I made it not, I made it, I made it not.' I finally set it down on the kitchen table, subconsciously chewing my nails. I really had to stop that. I blew air out of my nose and carefully opened the letter. A metal disk was inside, and it created a hologram of All Might congratulating me on 12th place. I blinked. Huh, I made it. I got in. The reality of it settled in and I grinned.
" Yes!" I yelled. I hurriedly went through everything else in the envelope. I got to design my hero costume! How cool was that? I couldn't sleep at all that night, so I watched some more movies and went on a midnight excursion to the forest to see if I could find owls, and even though I got home at one in the morning, my parents weren't even mad, because they read my acceptance letter, and understood I couldn't possibly sleep.
The next day, they told me they were impressed that I had managed to make it in 12th place. They even cleared their schedule to congratulate me. They were really proud, especially my mom. We had the same blue eyes and similar quirks, but my mom had to touch the thing she wanted to paralyze and it only lasted a minute. She failed to make it to UA, but she did work for the Japanese equivalent of the CIA. My dad was just a normal police officer. He had the same marks as I do except his hair was glow in the dark, though it was normally black.
They helped me fill out the application and offered to help with my costume. I requested and drew these cool goggles that would automatically adjust what I see so that I can actually see when my vision gets bad. Next was a black, lady assassin hood/ cloak thing, with a grey dress and sturdy but non restricting black leggings. Finally, I drew some below-knee boots that will hopefully help with support, running, and all that cool stuff. My parents watched and gave me some suggestions for the costume. I ended up requesting stuff that implemented advanced equipment that my mom advised me to use. That night, they took me out to celebrate at a fancy restaurant. They took me shopping for school supplies and everything else I would need, and insisted on taking a million pictures and sending them to everyone they knew.
The first day of UA finally arrived. Excited but nervous, I was a walking contradiction. I made it to school really early. I hoped to snag a seat in the front, and thankfully there was. There was one seat left in the front row, it was right in front of the guy who had shouted at me during the exams. He had his feet on his desk, glaring at everyone. I settled in and watched as more and more people trickled in. Then, came the boy I vaguely recognized as the uptight boy who called everyone out.
"Remove your foot from that desk! Such an action is insulting to those who came to UA before us as well as the craftsmen who made the desk!"
"Like I care. What middle school are you from, you extra."
"I'm from Somei Private Academy. My name is Tenya Iida." The spiky haired boy looked ready to blow Ida to bits, so I interrupted.
"I'm Nari Akiyama from Tsukurimono Middle School, nice to meet you." I smiled at the angry boy, "What's your name?"
"Why do you care?" he snapped. I shrugged, " Tch. Katsuki Bakugou…" We both got distracted at the same time. Ida had walked off to confront the boy with green hair and freckles. I idly wondered why he looked like he was being held at gunpoint. I wondered what we'd be doing today when Eraserheaad showed up.
"Oh my gosh guys, it's Eraserhead! " I was in awe. I did not expect my favorite hero to be my teacher. He glanced at me then introduced himself as Shota Aizawa and told us to put on gym clothes. And all of a sudden, I was no longer in awe. Oh no. I suck at standard gym tests. I changed into my gym uniform, brain racing, trying to figure out how I could possibly not fail.
We arrived outside and he listed off the tests. Every word that left his mouth was another ton of dread that hit me over the head. I couldn't use my quirk for any of those! Then Bakugo used his quirk and threw the ball 700 something meters. As if that wasn't worrying enough, the person in last place will be expelled. That sent me reeling with panic. I will not get expelled, I told myself. If I want to be just like Aizawa sensei, I would have to work harder. I had to become a hero, I had to. Determination set in and drowned out the panic. Wooh, alright, it's totally fine, not panicked at all, but I ended up chewing my fingernails again.
I finally got to use my quirk during the 50 meter dash. I froze the 2 fastest people and ran as fast as I could. I felt bad I hijacked their score. Fortunately, the people I froze, Tsuyu and Kirishima didn't seem mad. They praised my quirk and accepted my apology. I found out Kirishima's quirk was hardening and Tsuyu's was frog. I was kind of jealous, their quirks were really cool. I stuck with the two of them for the rest of the tests.
When we finished up, we fearfully awaited for the score. When Aizawa sensei spoke, everyone lost their minds.
" Also, I was lying about expelling someone. That was a logical ruse meant to bring out the best in all of you." He did this weird smile thing that was kind of ghoulish if I was honest. I was just relieved, but some people were losing it. I came in 19th, which was better than I had hoped. The day ended quickly after that.
"The first day was so exciting!" Kirishima grinned.
"Congratulations on eighth place, ribbit," Tsuyu told Kirishima.
"Yeah, you two did so well." 19th place was kind of bad. We talked until we reached the point where our paths diverged. We exchanged goodbyes and farewells before we all headed home. When I got home, I didn't expect a warzone.
Thanks so much for reading! A special thanks to Elizabetch, UnknowinglyB, STAdams , and mariajuliakopke. It means a lot to me, so thank you!
