"Wha… What did you do?" Hiccup asked.

"I cast a spell, that makes it so I speak and understand your language. Thanks for the pencil."

"A spell?"

"Yeah… so what were you asking before?"

Hiccup quickly got his composure back and nodded. "Um… I was asking who you were, and why you attacked."

Rin winced. "Sorry about that. It's just, you had my sword, and no one but me is supposed to have it. But you returned it so I guess you're not all that bad. I don't suppose you know where the bag is?"

"With your other clothes, drying…"

Rin nodded. "Oh! And the main reason, your fat idiot was pulling on my tail. And I don't think you understand how much that hurts."

Hiccup let out a sigh. "That would be Snotlout, and yeah, he's a muttonhead. Sorry about that. But… I have a few questions."

Rin rolled his eyes. "The ears, fangs, tail…"

"No, well yes. But not that… My dragon shot you. You should be a smoldering corpse!"

"Yeah… fire doesn't tend to really do anything to me, so…" he pressed his lips and shrugged.

"So are you a demon?"

Rin froze. "What?"

"Are you a demon? Or are you possessed?"

Rin sighed, he did, technically, appear to look as one did when they were possessed.

"If I am, what will you do?" He asked, though in a saddened manor.

Hiccup took a step back, confused. "I… I don't know. I've only heard stories of Demons, and those they've possessed. They're destructive, cruel, tricksters, and near impossible to get rid of. They killed for fun and without hesitation. But you didn't." Hiccup said. Noticing how the boy before him winced at each word added. "So what are you?"

Putting on a smile, that was so obviously fake, Rin looked up at hiccup. "Neither. Just a special case who happens to have fangs, pointy ears, and a tail. Though I do know a lot of demons, I'm someone who protects humans from them."

"Really? You know how to fight Demons?"

"Yeah, I do."

Hiccup walked forward, and began undoing the chains.

"What are you doing?" Rin asked.

"Letting you out."

"Why?"

Hiccup paused. "Because…? Unless you want to stay in there."

"No, I'd much rather be out. It's just… Aren't you worried I'll attack you or something?"

"You haven't done anything rash, while in there. Even though you have your sword. And you made it so we could communicate. I don't see any reason to keep you here. The only reason you attacked before was because we touched your stuff, and because Snotlout was pulling on your tail… Where's your tail?"

Rin lifted the edge of his loose shirt, revealing his fidgety tail around his chest. "Out of harm's way," he replied. "I don't need anyone getting curious and touching it."

Hiccup nodded, undoing the last of the chains. "That's fair, especially with the twins around."

Rin and Hiccup walked toward the meeting building they called the club house, Kurikara in hand. As they passed, some of the dragons gave him off glances, or growled at him. The dark one from before narrowed his eyes, and spread his wings defensively after getting between him and Hiccup.

"Calm down, I was just in a bad mood." He said, his expression flat.

Hiccup barely had time to try and get him to back off before the dragon took the answer and just… backed down. He did walk the rest of the way in between the two though.

They arrived inside, everyone waiting. The one in fur flinched at the sight of him, the obvious twins grinned at their new prey. Snotlout looked nervous, and the other girl looked both cautious and curious.

"Alright, everyone, this is Rin," Hiccup said.

With a wide slightly sadistic grin Rin stepped forward. "Kon'nichiwa, Okumura Rdesu. Mizu kara watashi o sukutte kurete arigatō. Soshite, anata no o shiri ni akuma o okonatte sumimasen'." (Hi, My name is Rin Okumura. Thanks for saving me from the water. And sorry for going Demon on your ass'.)

Hiccup stared at him, wide eyed. "What happened? You were speaking Norse like… a minute ago."

"Watashi wa shitte imasuga, koreha tada omoshiroidesu," He said. (I know, but this is just funny.)

"What are you talking about Hiccup, this guy hasn't said an intelligible word since he got here," Snotlout said.

"Snotlout's a muttonhead," Rin said.

The girl grinned, raising a brow. "I don't know that sounded pretty intelligent to me."

"Oh, I get it," Hiccup said. "You like jokes."

"And nothing is funnier than watching people squirm," Rin laughed.

The twins grinned stepping forward. "I see we have another servant of Loki in our midst," Ruffnut said.

"This pleases us," Tuffnut said.

Rin thought for a moment before speaking. "Loki, Norse god of Mischief?" He looked to Hiccup who confirmed with a nod. He smiled and shook his head. "As much as I like a good prank, I'm no follower of Loki. I do my best not to 'follow' any gods."

"Interesting," the one wearing fur said.

"So what language was that?" The girl asked.

"Japanese," He replied. "Anyways. Like I said before… My name is Rin Okumura. Thanks for saving me from the water. What are your names?"

"I'm Astrid, this is Fishlegs, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, twins if you couldn't tell. And you know Hiccup and Snotlout."

"Yeah, the one who can't keep his fat fingers to himself. Nice grip stubby," he said. His lip curling and fangs showing, scaring the boy further into the corner. "Everyone else, nice to meet you."

"So, I've got a question…" Astrid started.

"Just one?" Fishlegs yelled.

"Why were you falling from the sky?"

Rin scoffed. "I pissed off my brother in front of some important people, leader of their tribe or something… next thing you know I'm falling out of the sky, far from Japan, and what I'm guessing is about… a thousand years in the past."

"Wait… past?" Hiccup shouted.

"You mean you're from the future?" Fishlegs asked, a curious gleam in his eyes. "How is that even possible?"

He wasn't sure how to answer, because the response. 'Oh, my brother's the Demon King of Time and can fling be back centuries on a whim'... wasn't gonna work.

"Was it something like that spell you cast?" Hiccup asked.

Rin pressed his lips, and his eyes bulged slightly. "It was exactly like that."

"Spell?" The twins yelled.

"He cast a spell that made it so he could speak norse," Hiccup explained.

"Anyways, I've got to figure out a way to get back. Not that Mephisto is gonna make it easy on me."

"Mephisto, is that your brother?" Astrid asked.

He nodded. "One of them."

"How many do you have?" Snotlout asked.

"Eight... give or take. Seven are half brothers and one is a half sister, and one is my younger twin."

"Wow, I would die, if I had had eight of Tuffnut," Ruffnut said, pointing to her brother, who was inspecting a chicken.

"Do they fight demons too?" Hiccup asked.

"My twin, and sometimes Mephisto…"

"Will you teach us?"

"Wait wait wait, hold up," astrid said. "You're asking a demon, to teach us to fight demons?"

Rin sneered at the girl. "I'm not a demon," he said.

"Then what are you?" Snotlout asked, showing no decorum.

I can't tell them I'm half demon, they'll freak. And even more when they find out who my dad is. But they're not gonna let me off without answers.

"Cursed, that's what I am," Rin said sharply. He meant it metaphorically, but apparently it was enough for them to take literally.

They all shouted and asked questions about what happened and all that.

"Look, I don't like talking about it. Let's just say, I was cursed by a demon, and now I look like I'm possessed."

"So, is that why you fight demons? To get back at them for cursing you?" Astrid asked.

"You could say that, and I'm called an exorcist."

"That's a strange word," Tuffnut said. "Exorcist, exorcist," saying it over and over again until his sister hit him in the gut, making him stop.

"Glad I don't share a brain with my twin like those two," he scoffed.

The others laughed. "Hey, that's a good one," Astrid said.

"Yeah, I'd like to think I'm pretty funny," he said. Rubbing the back of his neck.

"So what's the deal with the sword?" Fishlegs asked.

Rin looked down, his hand wrapped around the blue scabbard containing his demonic heart. "It's mine, and my job to make sure it doesn't get opened. Bad things sometimes happen when it's opened." None of that was a lie, but not really the truth.

"So, will you teach us to fight against Demons, that way we can protect people if they show up?"

"Hmmm… I'll think about it. But the consequences of that could be bad."

The riders looked confused but didn't question it.

"I've got a few more questions," Fishlegs said.

"Are they mandatory?" Rin moaned.

"No," Hiccup said. "But he's gonna be dying on the inside till you answer them."

Rin rolled his eyes, but nodded.

"Alright, can you hear better with those ears? And how about the tail, does it help with balance? Also, your body seemed to be covered in a lot of scars, what happened? You should've been bruised from hitting the water so hard, but you barely were… And how in Thor's name did you survive a Night fury blast?"

Rin took a second to process, then continued. "Yes, yes, I'm clumsy and people like trying to kill me. I heal really quick. And the black dragon?" Fishlegs nodded. "It's fire."

His response confused them, and they sat in silence for a moment.

"Ok, yeah, plasma is fire… what does that have to do with anything?"

Rin rolled his eyes, then made a poor decision. He walked to the center of the room where a fire was burning and stuck his whole arm in it. The shouts of protest and warning died after a few moments.

He pulled his arm out, holding a pinch of red flame between his fingers. "Like I told Hiccup, fire doesn't really affect me."

"Woah, cool," Tuffnut said. Then rushed forward, plunging his arms into the fire pit. Reacting immediately, Rin grabbed his collar and pulled him back, dangling like a cat.

"What kind of damn idiot are you?!" He screamed, the other looking at his arms. Red and inflamed. "You could've fried your arms off!"

"Hey, if you get to be an idiot and stick your arms in the fire, then so do I!" Tuffnut defended.

Rin let go of the boy, landing with a small thump. "I'm not even going to try and explain to you how wrong you are on so many levels."

"You've got like… dragon skin or something," Astrid said.

"Let's go with, or something." Rin took a breath. "Thanks for helping me out, but I'll be out of your hair now. If I can just get my clothes and my sword bag, I'll be leaving."

"Already?" Hiccup asked.

"Why?" Astrid added.

"Because I want to go home, and I need to figure out how to. And while you've all been nice, saving me, then pulling my tail and blasting me than locking me up… and it's been fun, but I'd rather sleep knowing I'm safe."

Hiccup frowned, but nodded. "I'll take you to get your stuff." The two boys left together in silence.
