Chapter 1: Save me Nee-chan

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder, but it sure makes the rest of you lonely."—Charles M. Schultz

-Karasuno Locker Room-

There was silence in the locker room as Captain Sawamura addressed the four boys,

"Listen up you guys. The one thing that you're going to promise me right now is that you will not fall asleep in class, no staying up late through sheer willpower, no screwing up in your classes and in club. It's all absolutely unreasonable!"

The four boys fell over as the heard the seemingly insurmountable expectations of their captain. Their vice-captain tried to reassure them,

"It'll be all right. I mean, you guys passed your high school entrance exams." The boys' spirits seem to rise temporarily until he continued, "If you fall asleep in class, you'd better be prepared for the consequences."

Nishinoya was ready to give up until he remembered that someone important was coming home, "I have solution!" He shouted while jumping up abruptly "She's coming home tonight!" With that he raced out of the room not waiting for anyone or explaining anything. The rest of the team looked at the door as it slammed shut behind Nishinoya with varied expressions of shock and confusion. They were used to random exclamations from the libero, especially with his "Rolling Thunder" but that was strange even for him. Tanaka finally broke the silence,

"Nani? Who was Noya-san talking about?" Sugawara was the only one to answer, "Hmm, I wonder if he could be talking about her." This seemed to gain the interest of the rest of the boys, sparking them out of their stupor. A plethora of voices soon started clamouring "Who? Who is her? Do you know her?" Sugawara just shook his head, grabbed his bag and started to leave, "If it is, who I think it is, I will let you discover it for yourselves tomorrow." The first and second years start chatting excitedly among themselves while the third years simply exchanged a knowing look. Tomorrow was going to be exciting and just what they needed to lift everyone's spirits and hopes.

-Nishinoya Residence—

Nishinoya burst through the doors of his house slamming them open with a loud crack, "NEE-CHAN! NEE-CHAN ARE YOU HOME?"

A male voice answered from further in the house, "Yū-kun, remember your manners." Yū grimaced as he took off his shoes, replaced them with his house slippers and made his way into the kitchen "Tadaima."

"Okaeri nasai Yū-nii." Yū raced into the kitchen where he saw his sister sitting at the kitchen table drinking tea with their grandfather. He immediately raced to give her a hug. "Rei-nee, you're back! I thought you were going to start University in Tokyo?"

Reina chuckled as she hugged Yū, "Little brother! You need to stop growing. You're going to catch up to me soon." Yū scowled slightly as Reina continued, "Hai, I am demo, the University recommended that I should do some work experience in education and working with children to "help me mature" before officially starting my studies." Reina saw the look of confusion on her brothers face so she explained, "Apparently, they think I am too young to be starting University, specifically starting a degree in teaching."

The look on Yū's face was hard to distinguish, "Well that's dumb, I thought that you already had experience working with kids, you helped me with homework in junior high and you did all those volleyball clinics for kids in the summer!" Reina paused, considering her brother's point, "True, but those were just short time commitments and helping a family member doesn't count. They want me to have a full year of experience before starting my course work. But thanks for thinking of that Yū….Maaa…when did you get so smart Yū?" Yū beamed under praise from his sister, "Speaking of school…SAVE ME NEE-CHAN!"

The sudden outburst shocked Reina, "Nani?" Yū was on his knees pleading, "Help my team pass their exams so we can go to our training camp! If we don't pass, we have to stay back for supplemental exams and won't make it in time for the camp." Reina considered Yū's request "What subjects do you need the most help with?" Yū looked ashamed before answer "Math, English and Modern Literature."

Reina burst out laughing, "Have I really been gone that long? I was only in Tokyo for a year and half, Yū, that shouldn't be enough time to forget everything that I helped you with before." Yū continued to look terribly ashamed. "Fine. I'll help you and your team. But you owe me Yū!" Reina laughed as she headed up to her room, "Goodnight nii-san, Ojī-chan!"

Yū watched his sister leave the room before he slumped down into a kitchen chair, worried about what he just got him and his team into when he heard his grandfather laughing softly. "Yū-kun, you don't have to worry. You know you sister has your best interests at heart. Trust in her and in your team." Yū simply nodded and watched as his grandfather left then room before he headed off to bed, unsure of how tomorrow would play out, but confident that he made the right decision to ask his sister for help.

-The Next Morning—

Yū walked down the stairs, yawning as he entered the kitchen where he saw his grandfather making breakfast. "Nee-chan isn't making breakfast?" His grandfather shook his head before explaining, "She went out for her morning run, she said that she would meet you at your school for your morning practice." Yū nodded his head and grabbed a piece of toast before heading towards the door. "Yū-kun, you need to eat some breakfast!" Yū slipped his shoes on running out the door, "I'm gonna be late to practice! I don't have time for breakfast! Sayōnara Jī-chan!"

-Karasuno High Gym—

As soon as Yū got to practice the team started badgering him about his abrupt departure from the locker room the previous night. He simply shook his head and continued to get warmed up for practice. "You'll see. You'll see. I'm not saying anything." With that he went to receive a serve from Kageyama while yelling his usual "Rolling Thunder" and the other boys were forced to let the matter rest for the moment.

A little while later the team had started a short match trying out new team configurations. Kageyama had just set a toss, but it went too long and was going to hit their 3rd year manager, Shimizu, when suddenly it was spiked down into the waiting arms of Nishinoya and two shouts were heard simultaneously. "Sparking Lightning and Rolling Thunder!"

Everyone stopped, frozen where they stood, and turned to look at the person who synced up with Noya-san. All of them were shocked at who the long ,dark auburn haired, brown eyed, 5' 5", D-cup, goddess who had entered their gym.

Yū started laughing while he walked over to the female and gave her a fist bump. "You sure took your time, nee-chan."

"WHAT?" All the first and second years yelled together. All in awe that Nishinoya knew the person who disrupted their practice; not only knew but was related to the person.

The third simply smirked and waited for Yū to explain. "Hai, Hai. Minna, this is my nee-chan, Nishinoya Reina." Reina held up her hand to stop Yū, "Yū-kun, I can introduce myself." She turned to the team and bowed, "Kon'nichiwa, Nishinoya Reina desu. I'm your new tutor! I look forward to working with you all!"

"EHHHHH?!" Even the third years looked confused about that. "Nishinoya, explain!" Sawamura commanded. Before Yū could begin to form words to explain his sister cut in with an explanation of her own,

"Yū-kun informed me that some of the team needed assistance passing their exams in order to go to this training camp in Tokyo. I talked to the office and apparently it goes a little farther than just the training camp. The Vice-Principal is concerned with the amount of school that the team could potentially miss if you qualify for Nationals so they have hired me on to be an Educational Liaison and Business Manager for the club. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu!"

…..dead silence….

Suddenly Sugawara and the other third years started laughing. "Glad to have you back Rei-chan!"

"Looking forward to working with you again Noya-chan!"

Each third year came up to give Reina a high five, until it came to Asahi. He was still standing, frozen until Reina walked up to him seeming to prompt him into action. "Reina?" Gasps were emitted by the rest of the club at Asahi's informal address. "Reina, you came back." With a small smirk Reina nodded, "I'm back Azu-kun." Asahi smiled shyly and quickly enveloped Reina in a hug, ignoring all societal rules of politeness and the stares and outrage of his fellow team mates.

"I'm glad your back Reina."
