Chapter 2: New Masters
The blue light of hyperspace flickered over the small room. Emilia sat on her small bed looking at the blurred wall across from her while pulling her hair back into a small bun at the base of her neck If she were to reach her foot out she would be able to reach the other side of her room.
Getting up she slipped off her night clothing and put on her servant outfit. It was by no means revealing which she was grateful for. A simple deep blue dress that tied behind her neck and flowed down to the ground just barely covering her sandals. Simple gold bands adorned her arms indicating her position.
It had been six months since she'd been taken from Earth, the first few weeks were terrifying. She remembered back to when a group tried to escape. She and Mallory had joined naively hoping they could get out of here. Things had gone well until they came to a window and realized they were traveling through what she now knew to be hyperspace.
They guards caught them quickly.
The group had been punished by being brought before their new 'God' as she killed five members of their escape group with some device on her hand at random. It was unfortunate that their new god had been hosting other gods at the time. Her anger at being disrupted was quite evident, however she just smiled as she killed each person.
Hathor had actually stopped in front of her for a brief moment until she noticed she was holding her friend's hand tightly. Hathor had grinned at her before raising her hand to the side killing Mallory instantly while she kept eye contact with Emilia.
She'd held her friends hand and dropped to the ground crying before a guard wrapped his arm around her waist and dragging her back to her cell with the other remaining survivors. The last thing she'd seen was the Gods returning to their conversation as if nothing had happened.
The months after that, groups of people were sold off to different gods.
She didn't know if she was lucky to still be with Hathor, or unlucky. There were few left of the original group, only a mere twenty-five actually. Most were servants like her. Given clothing and a small room to sleep in, and food twice a day.
Almost a month ago she'd been cleaning a corridor when a Jaffa came down it quickly knocking her over. Her glasses had flown off her face and shatter against the stone flooring. She'd blinked however the hall remained a blurred image to her. Another woman had come over to her pocketing the broken glasses, "I'll help you, but you need to get up." That was the day she'd met Sarah.
Leaving her room she headed to the kitchens to get her breakfast in the early morning before beginning her daily chores. She knew the path by heart now without her glasses. It had taken her a while, but she figured out how to clean and get around with limited sight. She could still see up close, colors and shapes further away, she was getting by. She couldn't help but worry about the day she'd be asked to do something new and couldn't.
Getting to the kitchen though today seemed to be different. Sarah thrusted a roll and cup into her hands as the head servant looked sternly at her, "Eat quickly and head to the greeting chambers. Our Goddess is expecting a visitor today. Maris is ill and you will be taking her place."
She stood there stone still as she processed the news, she hadn't been in direct contact with Hathor since Mallory's death. Nodding she ate a few bites of the roll in her hand and finished her water before setting the roll down. Her stomach was churning as she thought about seeing Hathor again, and then finding out she couldn't see well.
Getting to the greeting chamber she stood next to Sarah with their backs to the wall near the door ready to serve if called upon. It felt like the seconds passed into hours before the large ornate doors across the room opened and two guards from their large uniforms looked entered before Hathors voice could be heard as she and her guest followed in. A deep rough voice responded to Hathor and Emilia knew she'd heard it a few times before. He was there the day Mallory was killed, and she was passed in the corridors by him a few times during previous visits. From what she could tell he was like the others, cold and never sparing them a second glance.
He was tall, with mid neck length black hair. Pale complexion that was made even paler by the black clothing he always wore. Those were the only two colors that blurred together when she saw him.
She'd also seen the same type of hand device that Hathor wore on his own hand when he'd passed by her closely one. He was a killer.
Hathor's voice brought her out of her thoughts, "Lord Dariush, I do find your offer intriguing. An ally against Lord Hu, I could use another. Let's settle this agreement shall we?"
She put her goblet down on the table beside her and relaxed into her chair, "You have the soldiers and I have the gold. I will fund your armies, especially the ones you are dedicating to my own protection."
Lord Dariush sat there looking at Hathor silently as if saying she needed to add more.
Hathor looked around almost nervous, She was desperate for his soldiers. She heard an almost hesitation in Hathor's voice as they spoke. Emilia couldn't help but wonder what danger she was in here.
The thought barely crossed her mind when her ears caught up to her brain, "Servants?" Hathor waved towards the servants, "Pick any two and you may have them. I prefer men to warm my bed anyhow. Most are young, I am sure they would provide you with ample entertainment."
Emilia felt her heart drop into her stomach as the blurred face of Lord Dariush was pointed in her direction before he stood. "Three, and it will be acceptable."
Emilia looked down focusing her eyes away from a decision she did not want to be picked for. She once again begged to be able to have her glasses back knowing that it was impossible.
Her world came crashing down around her when his feet stopped in front of her and his hand cupped her chip forcing her face up. Deciding to give him what he wanted she raised her eyes to his glaring at him through her clenched jaw. His face more in focus than it had ever been before, though still slightly blurred as if softened in a picture.
He smirked before wrapping his hand around her upper arm, "This one too."
Looking over she noticed he'd already picked two others standing near the door. As she got closer a sadness overtook her as she realized that one of the women was Sarah and another woman from Earth. At least they would go together.
He pulled her forward by her arm leading her to a Jaffa. It was gentler than she thought he would have been, but she still didn't let her guard down.
After Hathor and Dariush had spoken for a bit longer he rose and waved his hand. Two Jaffa guards flanked him while the other three pulled the three women along and out of the room following their new god.
Emilia kept her gaze down so she wouldn't trip and give away her vision defect. Sarah worriedly looked over at Emilia before looking to the other woman as they were forced to follow their new Lord. What were they going to do now?
Once they were on Lord Dariush's Teltak and departed from Hathor's floating palace he waived off the escorting Jaffa guards to attend to the fight leaving him alone with Emilia and the two women.
His dark eyes softened as his eyes flickered over them, "Tell me, what are you called?"
Emilia was dumbstruck, out of all the things she'd expected him to say her name was not one of them. She glanced at her hands before Lord Dariush's direction trying not to give herself away.
"Emilia."
She sucked in her breath not realizing that she's answered him. The other two both looked at her with horror on their faces that she drew attention to herself.
They spoke in a whispered voice, "Sarah" "Jessica" before quieting once more.
His deep voice drew her focus back to the man, "Thank you Emilia. Sarah. Jessica. You may all call me Ceyx."
Tilting her head Emilia looked in his direction, his blurred form sitting across from her. "Is that your first name?"
He grinned and shook his head, "No, it is my name. Over the past few months we have been attempting a long going rescue mission. I am not a Goa'uld. I am Tok'Ra, ally to the Tauri Lord Dariush is my alias."
Emilia's heart fluttered as he mentioned that him being there had been intentional, he'd been trying to help. "Rescue? Tauri?"
He nodded, "Yes, Tauri is what you are called in the galaxy, you call your world Earth. I have been pretending to be a minor Goa'uld System Lord in order to gain Hathor's trust. We have had multiple Tok'Ra infiltrate her ranks in order to purchase or be given Earth slaves."
Sarah threw herself at Ceyx hugging him tightly, before sitting right next to him. "We are going home? Thank you, thank you! Emilia did you hear that?" Jessica just stayed in the corner of the room with her arms wrapped around her knees that were bent at her chest.
He nodded before lowering his head, and raised it"We are just helping our allies." While his voice was still deep it sounded more human and didn't have the same tenor that he had a moment ago.
Clearing her thoughts as she still sat away from him unsure what to think about the situation. She couldn't help wondering about his voice change. "Did your voice just change Ceyx?"
He smiled and nodded, "Ceyx is my symbiote, I am Galen, host to Ceyx. Unlike Goa'uld we live in harmony, each of us being able to come forward. Unfortunately, I have been unable to come forward for weeks since we were undercover. Goa'uld do not give their hosts that opportunity."
Emilia gripped her dress with unease as she slowly slid further from Ceyx… or Galen. "What do you mean by symbiote and host? You are like Hathor right? You have powers?"
Galen nodded clasping his hands as if trying to be as non aggressive as possible. "You were unaware of what Hathor actually was then? My apologies we thought that you knew as the other Tauri. However, now that we think back it makes sense you would not."
It was clear to Galen and Ceyx that they no longer had the same trust that they'd had a moment ago. Especially from Emilia. Sarah was timid, however she hadn't moved completely away from them. Jessica had not moved either way.
"Let me start with the easy part I guess. My name is Galen and I was born on a planet called Harrea. When I was just entering adulthood my planet was attacked by the Goa'uld much like what happened on your Earth. Only we knew about the Goa'uld and the Tok'Ra."
He stopped for a moment before nodding, "Ceyx was not with me at that time. He had a different host, named Shawe. The Tok'Ra had visited our planet many times before as trading partners. They were there that day. I remember in the chaos of the attack I saw Shawe and Ceyx protecting some of my fellow villagers from an attack, they were hurt very badly. Shawe had been hit too many times for Ceyx to heal him. I volunteered to Ceyx to become his host if possible, we were lucky that we knew one another before blending, not all have that opportunity."
Nervously running a hand over her bare arm she started getting her nerve back with the information that was freely given. Her eyes strained to try and focus on him. "What is Ceyx? He could go from Shawe to you? I mean is he a spirit? Hathor kept calling herself a God. I don't believe that, but the things she could do… humans can't do that."
Galen nodded slowly as he watched her eyes flickering around. "No, you are correct Hathor is not a God. The symbiote gives us our abilities because they introduce a new substance into our bodies. Unfortunately the difference between Goa'uld and Tok'Ra is not physical, but philosophical. They are both symbiotes that need a host, the Goa'uld force down their hosts. Make them do horrible things while forcing them to watch knowing there is nothing they can do. Imagine you are doing horrible things, your arms and legs moving without your consent. Killing loved ones, torturing people. What the Tok"Ra have with their host is a cooperation between us, we both have our time and nothing is done without consent. We are in a much better harmony. We also never take a host who is unwilling."
He gave an amused smile, "Not saying we don't have our arguments of course."
Leaning forward on his knees the women in the room staring at him, "I can't show you Ceyx, he is inside me. Once we get to the Tok'Ra base I can show you what the Tok'Ra look like, we have a medical area that is housing a few symbiotes that are either waiting on a new host or too ill to be blended at the moment. Though I must warn you they aren't too pretty to look at." He smirked as if laughing at an internal comment.
Sarah looked at him curiously, " You've paused like that a few times. Can Ceyx communicate with you?"
Galen nodded, "Yes, we can speak to one another without being vocal. He just retorted saying I wasn't pretty to look at all day either. He has a wonderful sense of humor." he raised his hand indicating the back of his neck, "Ceyx is right here, wrapped around my upper spine and neck connected to my lower brain stem. I will always sound how I do and he will have the rougher voice as he uses my vocal cords. Although he could make them sound normal, out of respect it helps people to know who they are speaking too."
Biting her lower lip Emilia wiped her hands on her dress, "Can you feel him? I mean would I be able to feel him in your neck?"
Galen stilled as Ceyx asked if he could come forward. Galen nodded before lowering his head, when he raised his eyes flashed and his voice was rougher when he spoke. "You can. Most do not ask. It makes them uneasy."
Swallowing as her fingers twitched, as she moved her eyes away from him. She knew she'd gotten his full attention and that wasn't what she'd wanted. "Sorry, I have always been too curious for my own good. Galen must have been uncomfortable for you to speak. I am sorry."
Ceyx stood and walked over to Emilia. His stall form was even taller since she was sitting on a low bench keeping her eyes down at his boots. "Since it was me you were requesting to feel he let me answer you. Stand please."
"Oh, it was rhetorical…. If you are not okay with it…" Nervously she stood when he raised a brow at her reached down and took her hand. He was still a good nine inches taller than her so when he raised her wrist to the back of his neck it was as if trying to reach a tall shelf.
She was nervous at the sudden contact and closeness, she realized she could see the small freckles on his neck. Then her curiosity got the best of her as she relaxed her hand on the back of his neck. Furrowing her brows when she realized his neck was thicker back here pressing down slightly she couldn't not feel his spine. Moving her fingers around pressing up and down his neck for a few seconds. Suddenly his neck wiggled under her fingers from the pressure and she jumped back and fell when she tripped over the bench she'd been on earlier. "What was that?"
He chuckled, "Sorry I tried to stay still, but the pressure was a bit uncomfortable."
She flushed, "Sorry I didn't mean to hurt you. I just… you really are there!" Not a question, as her voice was filled with intrigue.
Grinning before reaching down and helping her back to her feet before backing away and heading to his own seat. "I am there. No apologies necessary. Our mate Alcyone has a scientific mind as well. Curiosity will keep her from nothing, and always getting into things. The mystery will drive her to an insanity until she can figure something out. Aerin not so much, she loves healing people and learning about history. Not so much discovering new things. Both are amazing in their fields."
He smiled, "To clarify, Aerin is host to Alcyone."
Emilia smiled and for the first time was able to relax, "How long have you been with them?"
Tilting his head to the side, "Ah more questions, we should have guessed. Aerin has been host to Alcyone for twenty-three years and I have been with them since a year after their blending along with Shawe, when Galen became my host even years ago we had an adjustment time as well. It was about six months or so before Galen was okay with the relationship. Relationships are a delicate thing with Tok'Ra when new blendings happen sometimes the new host does not agree to it."
Sarah joined in the conversation, "But what if Galen had said no?"
"It would have been hard, but I would have respected his wishes. So would have Alcyone and Aerin, it does happen. Alcyone and I actually were together with different hosts about a hundred years ago. However her host prior to Aerin did not agree and we parted ways and remained friends. Our hosts can affect our feelings and we can affect theirs to a point. Strong feelings usually prevail, love and hate are the strongest."
Ceyx stood, "We are arriving. The Jaffa do not know of our deception. Act as if we are not allies to you." He walked from the room and Emilia got up and sat with Sarah and Jessica waiting to see what was next.
