"can I get a burger please?!" a voice shouted

Tuppence but known in the refuge as platinum turned to take the person's order. She flinched however when she recognized the blonde-haired teenager. Well, the girl's superhero name was Wonder girl but in here she was just cassie.

Cassie had only been coming to the refuge for a month or two. She would have fun arm wrestling with some of the people from other planets, but Platinum didn't like it. While the refuge was accepting of superhero's their man patrons were aliens and Former criminals who did not want to go back to the life of crime. The refuge was hidden, and in plain site . you could only get in if you were a member or a member's guest.

The members list was updated constantly and their head of security was Waylon "match" Axson. Conner's twin Brother. After Conner left the team, he had gone and freed his other Clone match. Now, match was not able to be controlled and had been frozen again. The scientist called him a failed project, but Conner wasn't going to give up. He had freed match once and had decided to do it again. This time with success. Togather, the two of them Opened up the refuge and Waylon screened every person who came upon their premises. If they had ties to their old lives or was even associated with their enemies, they made sure to wear disguises and Waylon Programmed the Refuge to be in a different spot every two months. So, for the most part they never got the Same batch of customers unless those customers were a loyal member.

Loyal members had identities of their own to keep. Take Harley Quinn for example. A year or two after the refuge opened before platinum met Conner, the clown queen had stumbled upon it looking for shelter. She was pregnant and needed to be hidden from the joker. Why not hide where he would never find her? So, for a year Harley Quinn with no make up on, worked for Conner and Waylon as a waitress and with the refuge always on the move, she never saw the same person twice and Conner forbade lunatics like the joker coming near his establishment. So, all was well. Nine months later…Harley gave birth to Lucy.

Harley however loved her daughter but wasn't meant to be a mother. So, she left the refuge and did not take Lucy with her. Leaving the crying infant with the two inexperienced clones.

That had been a story to tell. Platinum quickly shook her head. She needed to focus; she could go back down memory lane later.

"So cassie? What brings you to the Refuge at..." she paused to the look at the time. "two am in the morning and in New York city. Far from where you live right?"

The teenager blushed at being caught and stumbled out an excuse.

"...it's just been a rough two weeks. I... I just needed to get away…and kind of needed someone to talk to?"

Platinum was glad for her dyed hair and purple contacts. If cassie found out who she really was… well that would be the end to their sisterly relationship.

"yeah…What's up?"

Conner Sighed in Satisfaction as he counted the money. They had made over 5,000 in one night.

"hey steel, you done yet?" a tired voice called.

Conner smiled at his nickname. He looked up to see a very tired looking Ace drag her feet through his office door.

In her hands she carried Three mason jars full of tip money.

"yeah just about. Hey, can you call everyone in here? its pay day."

"well, I would but Waylon is too busy making out with raven and platinum is caught up in a conversation with wonder girl. You know if she keeps coming around like this, we will have trouble. Well, you will have trouble."

Conner smiled up at his -, he still didn't know what to call her. Daughter? Sister? She had been another Cadmus experiment he had rescued. She used to be a part of the royal flush gang before they turned back to Cadmus. Conner had found her just in time. She had been a wreck and caused him trouble for weeks before she finally understood that he would not hurt her. She was only twelve and her whole childhood had been taken from her.

But what she said about wonder girl was right. His former teammate kept coming around and if anyone else from his past found out or followed her, it would mean trouble. Conner had built a good life for himself.

Staring over was not easy but with his new family he had become more than happy. It was hard work running a bar that catered to humans, meta humans, villains and superheroes but they made it work. Everyone in his Family wore a simple silver bracelet that protected them from varies powers and attacks. He had come up with the idea after his ex-girlfriend tried to wipe is mind.

Conner shuddered at the thought. It was what made his relationship with his sister in law raven so hard. Not only was she from a different planet but she could invade people's minds. It scared him. it took a few years for him to trust her but over time he learned to trust her and love her just like he did with everyone else.

So was he willing to put his family in jeopardy with the idea that popped into his head? He just didn't know.

Protecting his family and Protecting his business was his priority but …could he really just ban wonder girl? From her recent conversations he could hear, she really leaned on his wife for support. It seemed like she didn't really have anyone to talk to. From what his Tuppence told him, it seemed like Cassie was always alone because her mother was at work. And yes, she had wonder women but wonder women was always on a mission with the justice league. In wonder women's place was troia, wonder women's first protégé and sister.

Conner vaguely remembered the women but didn't relay care for her much. She was too loud, and it hurt his ears.

The sudden memory of his old team and his old life brought back memories. Some good but mainly bad. Kaldur, robin, kid flash, miss Maritain, artemis and himself. They had been the original team.

But then things changed…people changed and... Conner. Conner didn't change. not on the outside anyway and whatever changes did happen were small ones. It wasn't until Connor found his third genetic donor that things started to change. yes, it was a shock to him too. Instead of two, he had three Genetic donors who helped create him. Superman, Lex Luthor and…Big barda. A native of apokolips and leader of the furies under granny goodness. He didn't know if she knew and something told him she didn't know. And in truth, Connor was afraid. Afraid of the rejection and hurt that came along with dealing with this kind of thing. Superman had his own life and didn't accept his as a son, Luthor, well he didn't know anything about Luthor. He'd only met the man once and that turned out to be a disaster. Luthor was a businessman who only saw a failed investment. So, what would he expect from Big Barda? Hatred, shame...rejection?

His office door bursting open took Connor away from his thoughts.

"Steel! Quit daydreaming!" a smooth voice said

Connor grinned as terry McGinnis also known as project "batman beyond" walked into his office with what looked like files in his hand. Connor had rescued terry a year later after the refuge opened. Over the years Conner had stayed in contact with dubbliex also known as Dabney Donovan and the other genormphs. They frequently visited the refuge and maintained a healthy relationship.

"what's up ter?"

"well one its paaaaydaaaay! And two, I got some leads on matt!" terry exclaimed.

Matt was Terry's younger brother. They had been separated after terry and matt watched their parents die. They were both knocked unconscious and when terry awoke, he was in Cadmus. Being forced false memories and being tortured.

Connor had been so lost in his memories; he didn't realize his family in front of him. A clearing of the throat had him look up.

Standing before him were His wife Tuppence, now known as platinum, his brother Waylon also known as match, then his sister in law raven, Terry also known as beyond, Ace , Lucy (Harley Quinn's daughter but left in Connors custody) and last but not least was Kori, also known as star fire. She had come to the refuge only a few months ago. Her sister Blackfire had sold her into a meta human sex trafficking ring. Terry and Connor had discovered her while looking for matt. Seven people. All under his care and guidance. His team. His family.

Yes...this…was his family and he knew they could trust him.
