Chapter 2. Chavez's Birthday
Chavez's POV: I woke up early and got dressed and ready for the day I knew what today was it was my birthday and to be honest I wasn't really excited about it I mean what's the big deal about a birthday all it is is just the day you were born but oh well after I got dressed and ready for day I headed to the main house for breakfast but as I was walking in I noticed that lights weren't on it was still dark out when I woke up and the rest of the guys weren't in the bunkhouse when I got up so I knew something was up but I didn't know what it was I walked in and it was dark
Hello? Guys? John? I called out but nothing and I started to worry
Where was everybody? I thought
Suddenly the lights kicked on and everybody jumped from different places
SURPRISE AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAVEZ! Everybody shouted in excitement
I was shocked I couldn't believe it they all actually remembered my birthday of course my birthday would probably be the easiest to remember because it's on December 27th but the downfall to that is that it's two days after Christmas which we just celebrated there was a birthday cake sitting on the table with lit candles on it I sat down in a chair in front of the cake while everybody singed happy birthday I was happy but surprised because I didn't think they would remember my birthday I've never really had any good birthdays so this was the first real good birthday I've ever had in my life I was turning 21 years old
Well Jose make a wish my boy John said standing proud right besie me alongside the rest of the boys so I blow out the candles on my birthday cake then we started opening my birthday gifts John's birthday gift was saved for last and boy I got a lot of gifts from everybody I got a new knife from Richard and journal from Doc a new rifle from Charlie and a bunch of other gifts I even got something from Steve Alex and Susan McSween were also there to celebrate my birthday I was happy for once
Alright now it is time for birthday present for Jose everyone please follow me out to the barn John said
Before we went to the barn Richard and Doc decided to blindfold me Doc put the blindfold on me and Richard guided me to the barn once we were there everybody was waiting as we walked in I heard a familiar sound and I knew instantly what it was Doc unblind folded me and there he was he was standing next to John I was kneeled down to him and he came right over to me I looked up at John who was smiling proudly down at me
Is he mine John? I asked curiously
Yes he is happy birthday Jose John said proudly
What are you going to name him Chavez? Richard asked
Thor I'm going to name him Thor I announced
That's a good name Jose John said
I was happy I was even more happy with having a dog of my own I spent time with Thor every chance I got we did everything together he barley let Steve anywhere near me days went by like I couldn't believe and I was happy one day I decided to go down by the river it is my favorite hideout spot I would bring Thor and we would sit there for a while Thor would rest on my lap as we sat there it was evening time the sun was going down and I enjoyed watching the sunset and so did Thor I looked down at him and he looked up at me
What do you think Thor? I asked
He barked happily wagging his tail and curling up closer onto my lap I smiled softly while petting him then I realized that it was getting dark soon so we had to head back to the ranch so that way John wouldn't get so worried about us when we got back it was almost dinnnertime I washed up and sat down in my usual place at the dinner table we said grace and ate Thor always laid down next to my chair at the dinner table
So how is Thor doing Jose? John asked over silverware clattering plates of food
He's doing great John I replied
Well that's good hear Jose I'm glad you love him John replied taking a bite out of his food
After dinner it was time for our usual reading session then it was time for bed Thor slept on the foot of my bed and sometimes he would sleep on his own bed that was lying on the floor next to my bed I was happy to have Thor he's really the only friend I've ever trusted it's like he understood me and everything I was glad he came into my life and I wouldn't have it any other way no matter what happens we'll always be together even when the spirit horse comes for us we'll still be together
