"When will you meet the Cullen's Sam?" Billy asked
"in two days. We will meet in a clearing. One of their coven members has experience in this area." Sam explained
"I see. Well the elders and I will head to the meeting hall. We have much to discuss. And Jacob do not let Bella distract you. She has made her choice. Let sleeping dogs lie. I will only tolerate her for Charlie's sake and speaking of him I believe we need to come up with some kind of ruse to keep him from getting suspicious. Harry and I will come up with plans. Now you two get going." Billy firmly ordered. Sam went inside and Jacob went to check up on embry.
Bella was glad Charlie wasn't home. By the time She and embry arrived at his uncle's house, she was far away enough to where he couldn't question her. She made sure to call him though.
"Dad?" she called
"hey bells. What's up your party over already?"
"uh yeah about that, I kind of left early. Hey, I know this is unexpected, but I decided to take an impromptu vacation." She told him nervously.
"What do you mean an impromptu vacation? Bella if your up in Seattle I'm going to-"
"no dad listen." She said cutting him off. "I just need to get out for a while. The Cullen's and Jacob are suffocating and I'm not going anywhere near Seattle I promise. I'm just spending some much needed me time before college."
"Fine. your eighteen, it's not like I could stop you but does Edward
Know?"
"no! "she said sharply "and I appreciated if you don't tell him. I mean if he comes over and ask, fine but don't just randomly tell him. I just... need my space and he wouldn't understand that especially now. Alright dad, I'll be gone for a week or two. You should head over to Billy's or Harry's. I'm sure they would like to see you."
"you know I think I will do that. Be safe kiddo."
"I will dad. you too." She said softly.
Embry watched Bella as she hung up the phone and was deep in thought. He loved when she did that. Her nose would scrunch up and lips would thin out. It was cute.
"Relax Bella. Your dad will be fine. Now, come on my aunt and uncle are waiting on us. And it smells like she has dinner cooking. Mm. Fried chicken."
Embry's mom had moved to the Quileute reservation when she was pregnant with him, it had been a huge argument between her, his grandparents and his two aunts and uncles. In her family's eyes she had brought shame to the call name. How dare she whore around and especially with a man she didn't know the name of were his grandfather's words exactly. His mother's family quickly excommunicated her. no contact what so ever. Its what made embry's mom drink so much and then yell at him the morning after; being in the pack and having to leave all odd hours of the night didn't make it any better. The only people who hadn't cut her out was his uncle peanut. Ok, his real name was ollie, but everyone called him peanut. His uncle peanut was the only one who would acknowledge embry's existence. There were four of them all together; Ronny, Debbie, tiffany and ollie. His uncle peanut aka ollie was the youngest and more understanding. He was also the one who inherited sky blue eyes. It was a gene that skipped generations in the call family and other than ollie, embry was the only one to get it. It threw a lot of people off to see a native American with sky blue eyes. Blue eyes were rare enough but to see someone like embry with them was shocking.
"Hey! Its thing one and thing two!" his uncle peanut shouted from the door way. That was his nickname for he and Bella. Two peas in a pod. He was glad his aunt and uncle like her. it made things easier. They hadn't meant to fall in love, it just happened. It was when they first met. There eyes connected and It was an instant connection. He was the yin to her yang but then he phased, and he lost her. The shock of his phase was too much, and his mind shut down. The fact that his mother had lied about who his father was and then finding out that it could be one of the men he had known his whole life. It explained so much. Why people on the reservation looked at him funny. It was already bad enough that his eyes were blue and now add in he was a what some people called a bastard. A child who's born to parents not married. He could hear the murmurs of those around him and I really made things awkward between himself, quil and Jacob. Knowing that one of his best friend's dad could be his father. It made things tense between the trio. And they could see inside his head, they knew every thought. Every insecurity. The only thing he had on lock down was Bella. No one went to that part of his mind. That was his sanctuary.
It had all happened by accident. He and Bella had bumped into each other at a small museum in port angles. Jacob and quill didn't understand art and preferred cars which is why he had been alone that day. The odd ball out. He had found her looking at a famous painting. Nighthawks by Edward hopper. The painting where people are sitting at a diner.
Without looking up she had asked him "I wonder what they were thinking. Do you think they were contemplating life?"
That had been the moment where he knew he had wanted her and only her. Screw imprinting. For months that had been their meeting spot; In front of Edward hoppers painting.
"Come on in here you two. Amelia's just finishing up the mash potatoes and then we can eat. Take a load off." His uncle said breaking him out of his thoughts.
Embry Entered in and took a deep breath. No, he couldn't relax but he could enjoy the moment.
Chapter 5:
Jacob quickly ran over to embry's house. He didn't have to knock because his wolf sense already told him what he needed to know. His pack brother was not home. Jacob sighed and headed home. Hopefully he would be back tomorrow.
Bella was greeted by the warm arms of Amelia call nee Riverhawk. She smiles warmly at Bella but also had a look in her eye that said She knew something was going on.
"ill tell you later, I promise." Bella said. Amelia nodded and guided her to the kitchen. The thing about Amelia was that she was deaf. So, she had to talk normally but not to fast. Amelia was great a reading lips. It helped Bella be able to learn a little bit of sign language. Embry was better at it though. She looked in his direction and found him roughhousing with Amelia and ollie's German Shepard. Embry stopped what he was doing and caught her eyes. His beautiful blue ones looking into her soul. He was right. She was scared. Scared of everything. It ruled her life. Having a flighty mother, an emotionally detached father and vampires trying to kill you would put you in that state. But that was no excuse. Embry had been rejected all his life and she was doing the same thing. Rejecting him. How pitiful was she? Being so wishy washy. She was eighteen for crying out loud. No, she had to stand on her own two feet and grow some freaking backbone. She helped Amelia set up the table and then excused herself to the back porch. She had a phone call to make.
Edward was playing the piano in frustration. Carlisle and jasper had warned him to give Bella some space, but Edward didn't see the point. He needed to be by her side. She was fragile and delicate being alone for long periods of time could be dangerous to her. Especially with the newborn vampires running around. While their coven and the mongrels had agreed that forks was neutral territory, he still didn't like the fact that the mongrels were running patrol around Her house. That was it, he didn't care he was going to see her.
Bella went to dial Edwards number when Embry's warm hand wrapped around her. "What are you doing? "he asked
"Calling Edward and breaking up with him."
"Why?" he asked
"Because…I love you and its not right for us to have to hide this. Its hurting you and its hurting me."
Embry looked down at her. His blue eyes almost glowing in the June sky. "..you love me?" he asked with shock in his eyes.
"yes." She whispered.
"Call him but don't break up exactly. just say that you need space and you want to take a break. And once the battle is over than you can end it. We need all minds focused on this war. Now come and eat. Those stupid leeches forget that you need to eat. I mean who has a party with punch and appetizers. It's ridiculous. People need food."
Chapter 6:
The dinner was full of many laughs. To her surprise, Embry's aunt and uncle had brought out a homemade cake with vanilla frosting and sprinkles. In blue frosting it read congrats Bella! We're proud of you.
"Aww! Amelia, ollie thank you" Bella said as she hugged them both. "Your welcome sweetheart. Now, embry why don't you take Bella out on the water in the canoe. I'm sure the water's pretty warm tonight." Ollie said as he winked "besides the gift you have for her has been waiting long enough."
Embry blushed and guided Bella outside. They walked in silence for a few miles before they came to a beach and their sitting on the water was red canoe with detailed images on it.
. "The Makah tribe has a long history of mariners and artists. My great great grandfather carved this boat. Every male in the family is responsible for its upkeep. Once uncle peanut got tired of the upkeep, he passed it down to me. I'm not going to lie. I cried when he presented it to me. He truly made me feel a part of the family." he said as he helped her in. He began to paddle and continued talking "The Makah tribe centers itself around the water and the sea. We used to be really big on whaling, we still are but we have to be mindful of the population control ya know. We only do it every three years. It's a pretty big event."
By now that were in the center of the water. The moon was high and the fireflies were out. Reminding her of the little mermaid. The scene where Eric and Ariel were almost going to kiss but the boat got knocked over. With Bella's clumsiness that might just happen. After a few moments of silence Embry spoke.
"Earlier, you said you loved me. Weve never told each other that before. Did you mean it
Bella? "he asked
"yes, embry I meant it. I do love you. And I am so sorry for hurting you. I never meant to do so. I was just so scared but I know I have to stand on my on two feet. Your who I want."
"Say it again." He demanded
"I love you."
"Again." He ordered as he came closer to her,
"I love you."
"Say It again." He whispered softly in her ear.
"I love you embry call."
Embry place his hands under her chin. His blue eyes meeting her brown ones
"can I kiss you?" he asked softly
"yes"
Embry proceeded to kiss her with such a passion Bella didn't know what hit her. By the time he pulled back, both of them were blushing and out of breath.
Bella grazed her fingers over her lips where his kiss still lingered. It wasn't like any she had felt before. Edward had always been restricted while Jacob was forcefully. Embry was just right.
"That was our first kiss." She said
"I know. "he said as he reached in pocket for something. "I was really angry that Jacob made you that stupid bracelet. I mean it might as well be a key chain. I made you something. Something only my mate can wear."
He pulled out a thick grey and black leather cuff. The color of his wolf but in the center was the Makah tribes symbol a bird with a whale under it. Bella gasped. On the sides were words written in Makah.
"This cuff Bella is a symbol, Of how much I love you. It has my tribes symbol but also on the side it says "If my love were an ocean, there would be no more land. "corny huh." Embry said looking down
"What! No absolutely not! Embry this is the most thing beautiful anyone has ever given me. Thank you" She whispered
"Bella the rest of this month is going to be hard. We won't be able to be togather. Not yet anyway but to know I have your heart. That's enough for me. Ill be gone for a couple of days. So, relax. Go to the beach. Get some sun. but don't go worrying that beautiful head of yours." He told her.
"I can't help it embry. You all will be training to fight a newborn army and yet here I will be lounging on the beach. How is that supposed to be any help?" She complained

Bella sighed as she leaned against his bare chest. She had to find her niche
Chapter 7:
The next morning, Charlie swan wasn't surprised when Billy and harry called him over for a weekend trip of fishing and a bonfire. It would be nice but a little lonely. He missed Bella already. He didn't realize how much her presence impacted him, never the less he shrugged it off and continued to the black's front porch.
"hey Billy, Harry!" he shouted.
"Come on in chief." Harry said as he opened the door.
"What's going on clearwater how are you feeling?" Charlie asked as he put the beers in the refrigerator
"I'm feeling much better. The doctors got me on a new diet, so whatever fish we catch it going to have to be baked. How are you?"
"I'm good. Missing Bella a little bit, She decided to take an impromptu graduation vacation. Said she needed some me time." Charlie said gruffly as he and harry joined Billy in the living room.
"you hear that Billy? Bella went on an impromptu vacation" harry said with a forced smile. Giving Billy a sign that something was wrong.
Billy caught on and instantly excused himself outside with his cellphone. "Sam its Billy. Check with the Cullen's to see if Bella's with them. Charlie said she went on a vacation. It doesn't make sense. Why would she go on a vacation when theirs an army of vampires after her? I thought the pack and the Cullen's were guarding her."
"What! She went on vacation? No, I didn't know. I assume she was with the Cullen's. Darn it! I knew something was off during the patrol's around her house. Do we know where she Is at?"
"no we don't. like I said check with the Cullen's when you have your first meeting. I don't why she would put herself in danger like this. But look, well take care of Charlie you find out about Bella."
"Alright chief. I will do that."
Edward Cullen was not happy. He still had not gotten a chance to see Bella. The night he went to try Emmet stopped him at the door and now as they drove to the clearing to meet the stupid wolves, he still hadn't seen her. He tried calling but no answer. It worried him.
"Alice have you- "
"Edward shut up! I'm trying to see the newborns and your distracting me."
He sighed. They didn't have to wait long because ten wolves appeared on the hill. No one spoke and no moved. It wasn't until Carlisle spoke that the tension broke.
"Good morning, thank you for coming. We appreciate this alliance. As a good sign of trust is it possible one of you could show your human side? Sam perhaps you could. I'm sure it will be easier instead Edward just reading your thoughts aloud."
After a few two wolves became men. Edward refrained from growling. It was Sam uley and Jacob black.
"We need to ask you a question." Sam said with authority
"Yes Sam?"
"Bella swan. Did you guys send her on vacation?"
A hiss broke through Edwards lips. "A vacation? A vacation! Why would I send my fiancée on a vacation when theirs a bunch of newborns after her!"
"FIANCEE? FIANCEE! YOUR MARRYING HER!" Jacob shouted as he trembled with rage.
"stand down Jacob. Now is not the time." Sam ordered.
"now, you say you didn't send her on a vacation but yesterday Charlie swan said she had left the day of her graduation and - "
"Wait!" Alice said interrupting sam. "Edward Bella's going to call you in five minutes. She really is on vacation. I can see her on the beach right now."
There were growls and hisses of disapproval. "She went on a vacation. While were fighting for her life and ours! You can't be serious." Rosalie complained. She had spoken what everyone was thinking.
Bella was on the beach when she decided to call Edward. Alma was next to her. They were sunbathing and it was nice. She quickly dialed Edwards number, She had to get this over with if she was going to be with embry.
"Bella! Where are you! The wolves are saying you took some kind of vacation. Why would you be so reckless." Edward answered
"First of all Edward, I am not being reckless. If anything, me being away right now is for the best. Think about it you nor the wolves have to worry about protecting me for two whole weeks. You both can fully focus on training. And where I am at right now is too sunny for the newborns to hand around. Besides. I need my space Edward. I need to take a break from you, from Charlie. I just need a break. Ill see you in two weeks." With that said Bella hung up the phone leaving no room for debate or questions.
"I have to agree with Bella. With her not being here, we are able to focus 100%. So, let's get started." Jasper said as he sent out waves of calm. Mainly to Edward was in much distress.
Sam uley nodded and the training began.
Chapter 8:
Embry call laid in the bed and thought about all that had occurred over the past two weeks. It was the only time he could be alone with his thoughts. He was so angry when the stupid leech called Bella his fiancée but then feelings of joy swept over him when she told him she needed space. However, the feelings of frustration returned when Jacob went on a whole spew about how Bella was right for him and not the leech. Embry had to refrain from rolling his eyes. He loved his pack brother and best friend but sometimes he wanted to just throw him through a wall. He was so stubborn. Why couldn't Jacob see that embry's mate didn't want him as a mate. They were friends and only friends. It made embry want to take Bella and rub his scent all over her. He looked over to wear she lay. Over the past two weeks he had snuck away from the pack to visit her and they had become closer than ever.
They had gone canoeing, hiking and whale watching. The whale watching had been her favorite. His aunt and uncle had taken them to a sip and paint that somehow turned into a huge paint fight. By the end of it, they were covered in paint from head to toe.
Instead of taking a shower. Embry had taken her to a waterfall hidden deep in the forest. He stripped them both naked, skin on skin contact. He had never been one for too much affection but since his phase the wolf had made so many demands. Being with her was one of them.
He had never thought about love growing up; it got worse when he phased. The fear of imprinting had held him like a dog on a chain but now, it was different. Bella was his choice and she his. He couldn't wait until this while thing was over. Living with this charade was killing him.
Two weeks later:
Embry was facing off with Esme. To his surprise, both them struggled with when it came to agility. They were both fast but lagged in using their speed for their benefit. Everyone had been paired up. The wolves would rotate since they outnumbered the leeches. They even watched as the leeches went against each other. He had managed to pin Esme and land back on four paws but quickly backed away from her when he heard a car engine. Pulling up into the clearing was blue for f150 . the music was blaring so no one could tell who it was . The passenger door opened and out shot, kiba. His aunt and uncles German Shepard.
Embry quickly phased and put his shorts on. He heard Sam growl. Embry had knowingly exposed himself without Sam 's permission. Embry however didn't care. Kiba finally seeing one he recognized shot towards him.
"Kiba! What you are doing here boy? huh! Huh. What's going on? You miss me." Embry as he rough housed and scratched kiba's ears. Embry looked up when the driver door opened. His hearts almost stopped when he saw her. Bella. His mate. She was wearing a yellow tank top, blue jean shorts that stopped mid-thigh and cowboy boots. But what really had him holding his breathe was the fact she was wearing his cuff. She had also cut her hair. It was swooped to the side now.
Kiba took of from embry and bounded over to Bella. He stopped for a second and looked back at him, yipping almost asking why he wasn't going to greet his mate. Embry couldn't move because the leeches. The little pixie and mind reader had swarmed her.
Bella quickly opened her tailgate to her truck but stopped when Alice tackled her. "Bella! What did you do to your hair!?"
"I cut it Alice. Something new." Bella murmured as she wiggled out of Alice's embrace and continued to open the back end of her truck. In the back were piles of sandwiches and water bottles. Next to them were towels.
Bella turned to call the wolves but then stopped when she came face to face with Edward. He was looking at her like a piece of meat. She knew he would have this reaction, all of them would. They hadn't smelled her scent for a full two weeks. She knew it was overwhelming.
"hello. Edward." She said politely and then stepped around him to address the wolves.
"hey! You guys have been training for hours and I know your not done yet! You guys want to take a break and eat! I made sandwiches!"
Embry shot off towards her before Sam could stop him. "Bella! Nice to see you! Thanks for the food Chica!" he said as he spun her around in a playful manner. Of course, they both knew it was just an excuse to touch her. Seeing embry take a sandwich and moan in satisfaction was all the motivation the pack needed to come over. While the pack made their way over to her new truck, Bella picked up the basket of damp towels and handed them to the Cullen's.
"here. I figured the dirt and the scent of werewolf would give you guys a hard time. So, I made these."
Esme gasp. "oh Bella! These smells delightful! What is it?"
"it a mixture of lavender and whale blubber. I t will strip you of any unwanted scents. Bella explained as she watched the Cullen's rub themselves down with the towel.
"We have missed you. How was your vacation?" Esme asked gently
"it was wonderful. I did a lot of new things I- kiba! Stop that." Bella scolded as Kiba started to tug on Edwards pant leg.
"hey, kiba bad boy, come here now." Embry said in a deep and scolding manner. Kiba whined and trotted over to his master. He watched out of the corner of his eyes as Jacob approached Bella.
"bells? Where have you been? do you know how worried we were?" he said as he engulfed in a hug
"Yeah. I just needed to get away besides I figure it would help you guys focus more." Bella said as she maneuvered herself out of his arms. Only to be pulled in by Edward.
"love, why did you not communicate with me. I would have sent you somewhere."
"no, need. I found a place all my own. " wit that said Bella stepped back from Edward and headed back to her truck.
"kiba. Come here honey. I got a treat."
Kiba of course bounded toward her at the word treat.
Eventually the supernatural creatures continued their training. When they finished Bella was at a crossroad. Go with the Cullen's and be overwhelmed by Alice and Edward or go with the wolves and be smothered by Jacob while her lover looked on.
"hey. I'll see you guys at Emily's. She and I are supposed to compare recipes." She shouted at the wolves. She watched as Sam nodded and they dispersed but a few seconds later, embry came running toward her on two legs.
"hey, I'm going to ride with you to Emily's. We don't want to take any risks."
"Well. I assure Bella can come with us." Carlisle said
"no, it's ok Carlisle. Ill visit you guys tomorrow. I promise. I need to see my dad anyway."
With that said, Bella, embry and kiba hopped in her truck and sped off. It was all the time embry needed to lock his lips on hers. She was his, no matter what.
Chapter 9:
Embry made them stop on the side of the road, so they could have a very hot make out session.
"I missed you, Cullen's and black's scent are all over you. I hate it. They were hovering over you like you were some kind of prize. You are a human Bella, not some prize to be one. I hate that they objectify you."
Bella was straddling his waist now. "I know, and I hate it to. But this is going to end soon. I just need you to focus on defeating these newborns. I'm all yours embry. I promise."
"I know babe. Its hard. Come on, lets go to Jacob's to see your dad. He's been here for a while and by the way when did you buy a new truck and why do you have kiba?"
Bella began to drive before she responded to him. "I wanted something new. I love Jake but only as a friend and the truck just had too many unwanted memories. And I asked if I could have kiba for a week or two. Your aunt and uncle are going to a carver's conference in Milwaukee. I didn't want him to be alone. Besides it gives me an excuse to hang around you or for people to see us togather"
"I see. I like the truck. It doesn't smell like the leech or black. Just you and me. Our scent. It calms the wolf actually."
The drive was short. Bella, embry and kiba hopped out the truck and made it to Billy black's front porch. The door was already open so they didn't have to knock.
"Hello? Billy? Chief swan? Embry called
"Living room!" Billy called back.
The trio entered the living room and saw Charlie and Billy watching tv. When the two men turned to acknowledge their visitors, Charlie gasped.
"Bella! Kiddo your back." He said as he got up to give her an awkward hug. "Hey Dad, I missed you. Hi Billy." She greeted as she bent down to hug him.
"Bella. You cut your hair! and you look good. You're almost glowing" Charlie said as he looked between her and embry.
Kiba however became the center of attention when he put his paw in Billy's lap. "Well hello who is this pup?"
"This is kiba. My aunt and uncle's dog. Bella's dog sitting." Embry commented.
"But actually, we just drop by to say hello, we have to get to Emily's"
Embry wanted to get away from Charlie's suspicious glances. "oh, that's right. I'll leave the truck and we can walk. Come on kiba." Bella said as she caught on to what embry was hinting to.
The walk from Jacob to Emily's wasn't too long but long enough for embry to be able to get some quality time With Bella.
"Embry? How are you? Really?" she asked him. Embry stopped and watched kiba chase some poor bird.
"I've been having a hard time. My mom... she's been drinking a lot more than normal. I had come home a couple days ago and found some jerk she had brought home. He was in my room looking through my drawers. Bella he almost stole the money I had saved in there. I had to take it out and hide it somewhere else. I almost broke the dudes jaw, threw him out and of course mom screamed at me about how she hated me and how I ruined her life. Typical stuff."
Bella looked at him wide eyed. "Embry! That's horrible. You know what. Anytime you need a break just come over to Charlie's…I think we should start to get him used to your presence. you being around more."
Embry turned and inhaled sharply "you want me to meet your dad? like officially?.. as your boyfriend."
"yes."
Embry picked Bella up and spun her around. "you don't know how happy that makes me babe."
Their happy moment was over to soon as they approached emily's house. Kiba stopped on the edge of the stairs and looked up at them.
Embry made a short howling sound to alert the others to their presence. Jared was the first one to appear.
"yooo! Embry! For a minute their we got worried. What took you two so long?"
"Sorry we had to stop to see Bella's dad." embry said as some of the other pack came out unto the porch to greet them.
"Bells." It was Jacob, he jumped off the porch and stopped two feet from her. "you ok?"
"I'm good Jake." She said playfully punching him in the arm. Jacob caught her punch midair. "What the heck is this?" he hissed as he looked at her left wrist. It was the leather cuff embry had made for her.
Bella didn't get to respond because Emily with Sam behind her came out to greet her "Bella! Wow, you look amazing. how are you?"
Jacob however wasn't finished. "Now hold the heck up. Bella what is that on your wrist?"
Everyone who was present zoned in on Bella's leather covered wrist.
"Ah! Bella! That's a Makah promise cuff!" Emily said picking up Bella's wrist. "Bella who gave this to you. only Makah women get this cuff. Thiers a long historical and spiritual process that go with this. The Makah tribe's shaman has to make these. These are really special and no offense, but you shouldn't be wearing it."
A sharp bark sounded making the pack jump. It was kiba. He was digging holes in Emily's garden.
"ah! No! no! get that dog out of my garden! who does he belong to?!" Emily yelled
"Hey. Kiba here. now. bad dog, you know better." Bella ordered as kiba came to her with his tail tuck between his legs.
"I'm sorry Emily. He's normally not like this."
"Whose dog is it anyway?" Jared asked
"uh, I'm dog sitting for a family friend." Bella answered.
"Bella. I still want to know where you got that bracelet. Its really special. Do you even know what it means?" Emily said in irritation.
"Emily. There's no need to be rude." Bella snapped "And what with all the questions? So, what if I have the bracelet. why does it matter to you so much!"
"Because! That cuff is not just something some ignorant pale face wears! You run with vampires so you shouldn't be wearing it anyway!"
Bella gasp and stepped back as if she had been hit. "Emily!" Sam scolded
