Chapter 2
A Bout With Artemis
Percy groaned as he woke up. He tried to look around, but everything was fuzzy. He could make faint faces. "Where am I?" He managed to say.
"The sleeping beauty awakes." A familiar voice laughed. Percy could make it out to be Leo.
"You are in the infirmary" Annabeth said. Percy closed and opened his eyes. Everything became a bit clearer. He could make out the faces. Jason, Annabeth, Leo, Hazel, Frank, Piper, Grover and the Stolls.
"What happened?" Percy asked.
Leo laughed. "After we got the old lady off you, you hit your head on the floor and passed out."
"The old lady?" Percy asked.
Leo hesitated. "She died soon after we got her off you," he said.
"She died?" Percy asked surprised.
"Well we think she died. The officials came soon after you hit your and we had escape from there," Jason replied.
"Oh!" Percy said thoughtfully. Maybe the old lady didn't after all. But what were they doing to the people in there. He tried to get up. The room became distorted around him. Annabeth helped him sit up. He took a deep breath and got up. He was surprised when he found out he was fine. Better than fine, actually. He felt great.
The rest of the day went as normal. But still he felt something weird. He came top at lava climbing, sparring with swords... He even came top at wrestling by beating Clarisse. Hell he even came first at archery.
At night he was restless, sleep evaded him. So he decided to take a stroll through the jungle. Grabbing Riptide, he went into the woods. He came across some monsters but they were surprisingly easy to kill. A little while later, rustling was heard in the trees. He took a defensive stance and sneaked forward. Parting a few bushes, he went forward. Light was coming from a small clearing. This surprised him. Which monster makes light in the middle of the night. He went forward slowly, haltingly. He hid behind a tree and what he saw surprised him.
In the clearing, tents have been set out with obvious expertness. People - no- girls milled around talking, working and roasting wild animals. At the centre of the clearing a twelve-year-old girl stood with a bow across her shoulder. As he came nearer, the girl stiffened. Even at this distance he could hear them.
"What is it, Lady Artemis?" the girl with electric blue eyes sitting next to the 12-year-old girl asked.
"Someone is here," Artemis whispered, then said with louder voice "Who is there?"
She seems strong. A voice inside him said. He ignored it. I seemed to be having auditory hallucinations. He thought. After all I did hit my head. Then, without warning, Percy's leg moved of it's own accord.
"Perseus Jackson," Artemis snarled. Thalia - the girl with electric blue eyes – looked shocked.
"Percy, what are you doing here?" Thalia asked.
"I want to challenge Lady Artemis to a fight," first my legs now my lips? What the hell is happening? Percy thought.
Artemis smiled, "Sure, why not?" Thalia's eyes widened even more but she kept quite.
Suddenly, Artemis lunged at Percy. But he ducked just in time. She skidded to a halt, gritted her teeth and lunged at Percy again. This time his fist flew up and hit Artemis' stomach. Artemis fell down clutching her stomach. She was panting already while Percy was not even a bit winded up. She raised her two knives and lunged – again – at Percy. This time her knives cut Percy's back as he ducked. That's it. The voice said.
After this, Percy felt himself growing and whatever control he had left of his body was gone. His hand had shot up and grabbed Artemis by her neck. As Percy looked into her eyes, he could see a giant, red monster there. Arrows shot at him, but he did not feel any pain. The monster threw Artemis into the woods and then jumped after her. "No, Stop!" Percy screamed. The monster disappeared in mid-air and Percy fell down.
"What are you doing?" The monster said angrily.
"I will not fight," Percy said.
"Then what are you going to do?" the monster asked.
Percy took a deep breath and ran with all the strength he had towards the woods. Never to be seen again for 3 months.
