A/N: This was a request on Tumblr. I'm not that great with angst, but I tried! I hope you like it!

Balancing the pizza box in one hand and a box of donuts in the other Millie kicked the door lightly with the toe of her shoe. "Kev, can you open the door?"
She shifted the cardboard against her palms carefully, steadying them in her grasp as she waited patiently for her boyfriend to appear, all smiles and sunshine like every other Friday night. Minutes passed slowly and with every one she began to question if he was even home - he hadn't answered her last few texts, which was unusual in the first place - maybe he wasn't home.
Did he have to stay late for work?
She leaned forward a bit, listening for a sign of movement on the inside, any indication of him being there, but instead she was met with an almost eerie silence.
"Babe?" She called again, her brows furrowed. "Kevin?"
Again she was met with nothing.
She sighed and slowly transferred the donuts onto the pizza box, both now balanced precariously in her right hand, freeing the other to feel blindly along the bottom of her purse. Quickly she sorted through the crumpled receipts and candy wrappers until finally she found her key ring, buried in the bottom of the large bag. She shoved the key into the door and stepped into the dark room, confused and a little alarmed.
"He always lets me know if he's going to have a late night," she thought nervously. "What if something happened? What if he got hurt?"
"Kevin?" Millie all but threw the boxes onto the counter before she hastily made her way though the the apartment. She searched the living room, and then moved into his bedroom where she found his clothes on the floor and his gun thrown carelessly on the nightstand. She gawked at it, knowing that he'd never leave it laying out in the open like that - he always, always kept it in the safe in the closet.
Her heart hammered in her chest as her mind raced. Should I call Jay? Would Adam know where he is?
Then, in the room just beside of her, she heard the shower shut off - how had she not heard it before? She swallowed her fear and sped toward the bathroom, her heels clicking on the hardwood beneath her. She wrenched the door open without bothering to knock, her panic now almost crippling her.
"Kev," she breathed, deflating against the door frame. "There you are."
Kevin sat on the toilet, water still dripping from his hair and down his shoulders, a towel secured tightly around his waist. He glanced up at her sadly, his eyes rimmed with red. "Hey, baby."
The look of utter despair on his face shocked her - in all the time she'd been with him she'd never seen him so distraught. "Kevin, what happened?"
He sighed and shook his head slightly as he spoke. "It was just - it was a long day."
The woman cocked her head at him, confused as to why he wouldn't talk to her, and took another step toward him. "Kev..."
"Millie," he forced a smile for her sake - one that very clearly didn't meet his eyes - and the very thought of him trying to comfort her when something was so obviously wrong with him broke her heart. "Hey, don't worry about me. I'll be okay."
"Kevin, I'll always worry about you," she chided him softly. She took his face in her hands, stroking her thumbs over his damp cheeks before she spoke again. "You know you can talk to me, right? About anything."
"Yeah," he responded quietly. "I know."
Kevin sniffed as she ran her hands down to his shoulders and then up to the back of his neck, her touch soothing and warm against his skin. He inhaled sharply and brought his hands up to her hips, his bottom lip quivering ever so slightly, perhaps even unnoticeable had she not been so close. He pulled his lip between his teeth and closed his eyes as he tried to control his emotions.
Millie sighed and pulled him gently toward her, letting his face rest against her stomach as she whispered, "I love you, Kev."
Slowly, as if he thought she might float up into the lingering mist that surrounded them and disappear forever, Kevin brought his arms up and wound them around her waist.
Little by little he relaxed until he was almost boneless against her. His eyes burned at the pressure behind them and his breaths started leaving him quicker and quicker until finally the dam broke and he began to sob. Broken sounds shook his body violently as he began muttering things, his jumbled words fragmented by hiccups and whimpers.
She didn't know how long they stayed there him broken, her piecing him back together, but eventually he looked up at her, shame and humiliation written clear across his face. He apologized weakly but she simply leaned down and pressed a kiss to his furrowed brow.
"You never have to apologize to me, Kevin. I'm here for you," Millie comforted gently. "Forever."
