Chapter 2: Annabeth
Immediately Annabeth regretted electing to search the town centre. The sun baked down on the streets. Every street seemed to be identical; rows upon rows of restaurants and tourist sites. Annabeth felt faint as the dehydration set in. She could not appreciate the beauty of her surroundings. She desperately hoped that Leo and Jason were having more success. Stumbling under into the shade of a tourist shop Annabeth was able to replenish herself by drinking a bottle of water. As the cool liquid caressed her throat she noticed something. Out of the corner of her eye she could see a guidebook. The guidebook's cover depicted a grand statue of Helios in the harbour: the Colossus of Rhodes. Putting the bottle down Annabeth picked up the small green book. Flipping through it she found a chapter on the Colossus. It read: The Colossus of Rhodes was once the pride of Rhodes. Depicting the ancient Greek sun god Helios the statue towered over the harbour. Sadly it has since been destroyed by earthquakes and melted down by traders. However those who wish to discover more about the Colossus should visit the Museum of Aeschines. Annabeth finished reading. Aeschines sounded familiar. After a few moments of deep thought it came to her: Aeschines was an ancient Athenian politician who founded a school in Rhodes. Annabeth put down the book and raced back to the harbour.
Upon reaching the harbour she found a tired looking Jason and Leo. The boys were sitting against a wall in the shade.
"Where have you been?" asked Leo as he panted.
"I found something. Apparently there is lots of information at the Museum of Aeschines in town."
"The museum of who?" inquired Jason. His nose was red from the sunshine.
"Aeschines. The Athenian politician." Annabeth was met with blank faces. "Am I the only one who bothers listening to Chiron in Greek history lessons?" She helped Leo and Jason to their feet. The group began the trek back into Rhodes city.
