2. Fox on the Run

His whole bed was warm.

Motohama Daiki woke up from sleep feeling that his lair was unnaturally warm, his body does not take up much space so half the bed is always cool but this time he felt the whole place to sleep was warmed.

Lying, he wondered if everything that had happened was just a dream - a scream at the construction site, a fight with a red giant and saving an unknown girl. After a while he agreed with himself that it was just a creation of imagination, something like this can't happen.

Opening his eyes he felt abnormal, everything was sharp and clear like never in his life. He had to wear glasses from excessive reading and playing on the computer since he was a child, so glasses were his only way to see. But now he saw everything as if he had falcon eyes, it was overwhelming. He touched where he should have glasses to see if he was still dreaming but found nothing there. He must go to the doctor with him to explain.

He looked at his watch and noticed that it was time to get up, pulling off the quilt, got up from the bed. Motohama raised his arms above his head and began to stretch. After a few minutes of dragging his body, he went to the bathroom to wash, continuing his daily ritual.

But when he looked in the mirror he saw something extraordinary, his eyes changed. The color changed from gray-green to light emerald, and the iris was broken into pieces creating spots and fragments with a triplicate backlight. Daiki was now sure he had to contact a doctor.

Sighing and shaking his head, he thought, he could arrange his hairstyle with this sudden change. He remembered some photos of the model in the barber magazine, deciding he began to style his hair. After a while, he had loosely combed hair with several strands out of place.

"It might be, it's better than before," he commented dryly on his new haircut.

After leaving the bathroom he headed for the cupboard with clothes. Remembering that today is a day without school, he decided on a comfortable outfit. He dressed in a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants.

Then he went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He fired the gas stove and put the pan down. He gave a cube of butter, his next step was to break some eggs and mix them up to create scrambled eggs. He added some salt, then gave the mixture from the center of the shells to the heated saucepan. Soon after, he began to prepare warm toast and bacon. The smell of tasty food slowly began to fill the room and then spread throughout the building.

Immersed in his activities, he did not notice the person who woke up drowsily on the sofa in the living room. Encouraged by the appetizing aroma, she slowly stood up and headed for the food source. She walked quietly to the table and sat down on the chair and asked Motoham, who was still unaware of her presence.

"Do you have some for me?" - Daiki heard, jumped back frightened, slipped and fell his ass on the ground. He looked at the mysterious person and recognized her face with a slight smile. He was a member and captain of the Kendo Club - Murayama Kumi. A person who beats him often and ruthlessly when she catches him peeping while her club is changing, he just felt chills on his back at the thought.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, stammering as if he could not put the words in his mouth. He hoped she hadn't crept in here to punish him for the last peeping female sword club members.

"I couldn't leave you alone with the wounds you suffered yesterday," she replied as if it were a normal thing. "You would die if I didn't heal you."

"I was hurt after yesterday? It was a dream, "he said, trying to understand her words. It's impossible, she must have heard him talk in his dream and now she is making fun of him.

"No, it wasn't a dream," she shook her head, "You fought yesterday evening and somehow managed to defeat the devil who was chasing me."

"Devil! He doesn't exist, "he shouted, terrified.

She sighed and rested her chin on her hand - "I'll explain everything to you but first you better watch the food"

He turned and saw that everything was about to burn, Daiki quickly put out the fire and pulled out two plates. He put eggs, bacon, and toast, then put the food on the table at which he sat.

After a moment of eating, Motohama broke the silence - "What is it with these devils?" - putting a piece of bacon in your mouth.

"At the beginning, you must know that there are three factions - devils, angels, and fallen angels" - she replied - "Each of the races fights among themselves trying to gain dominance on another side. I am also a devil "- she finished, then wings appeared like a bat from her back.

His eyes widened comically when he saw what appeared on her back. He couldn't believe that he was confronting a demon and surviving, this is his greatest achievement in life. But remembering yesterday how that monster broke the steel pipes with his bare hands, he could believe in the existence of supernatural creatures.

"But if the two of you are on the same faction, why did he chase you?" he asked, not understanding the reasons for the red-haired giant. If they are on the same side of the fight, they should help each other, not fight.

"Each race has its own kind of power and government, if a devil commits a crime, he is called a stray devil," she explained.

A teenager with brown hair got up from his chair abruptly - "You want to tell me that you are some bandit!" he shouted. "And how can I be healed? Have you changed me into someone like you? " - he could not believe that he risked his life for some criminal, he knew that the sword club captain was aggressive but to commit evil.

Murayama waved a hand, not impressed by the outburst of his anger - "Calm down, as, in the human system, someone may be falsely accused, like me" - she pointed her finger at herself - "And to save you I used magic, which should not surprise you because I am a supernatural creature, "she added with a flush of cheeks, remembering something shameful.

"Okay" - Motohama wiped his brow of sweat and sat down again - "But why if I am not the devil, my eyes and their shape have changed so much?" - He asked.

Kumi came closer to him, scanning him deeply from top to bottom. Daiki felt self-conscious from her eyes on him, causing blood to flow to his face and then turned his head away from her.

She answered lightly, "I don't know, but it's not treatment, maybe a side effect," she shrugged.

"Maybe it's related to the power I got," he offered an explanation, remembering yesterday's fight.

She was surprised by this but made the gesture to continue - "So when he attacked me, something unlocked and I could see the future, about 10 seconds ahead."

"I'm not sure but it's possible" - she said - "Maybe you have a relative with a magic pedigree, do you know anything about it? It can also be a sacred gear but I don't feel anything from you "

"Anyone in his family with magic?" - Daiki didn't know how to answer that, knowing almost nothing about his family. - "I don't know my parents, my grandfather raised me but he recently left"

"I'm sorry," she said, and he could hear sympathies in her voice.

Daiki just waved her back - "No need, I came to terms with it" - he gave a tight smile as if trying to be positive after eating a sour lemon.

After a moment of silence, Kumi got up and corrected her clothes - "Come on, we have to prepare for the fight"

"What fight?" - Motohama asked raising his eyebrows, slightly terrified of the possibility of the next fight - "After all, I defeated that big man"

"You only beat for a moment, he is also a devil after a few days he will be up again. And after what you did to him, he will come for you, so it's better to be prepared "- she finished, not giving him the opportunity to argue, and began to walk towards the exit.

And the teenager with the iris broken into pieces followed her.

During their journey through the city of Murayama, she explained the details of the supernatural world to him. As devils do the favors of people for they get more power, how can a man be transformed and further facts about her world. When he asked why not to use magic, she told him that she could not teach him because human and demonic magic operates on different rules, although it would be useful in combat.

When they arrived, they were outside the door of the old church, the building seemed to be abandoned. The temple had crumbling walls made of gray stone, the stained glass windows were broken and the windows were covered by white sheets, the huge wooden doors were clearly torn out but they still clung to the hinges. It looked like someone was looking after the building but had no funds for any repairs, from stuck holes in the wall.

When they entered it turned out that the interior is in better condition than outside. The benches that were laid on the sides of the chapel were clean and without major damage, gold chandeliers hung the ceiling illuminating the dark interior of the temple and the cross in the middle looked freshly made giving the building the impression of being larger than it is.

A person was kneeling at the altar, he was wearing a black coat by which the priest's traditional clothing could be seen. He was middle-aged, his face was hard and sharp with a few scars and he had short black hair that he had hidden, he had a black fedora in his hand.

"Oh, lost sheep are at God's threshold?" - He said without hiding a malicious smile- "Who can it be?"

"You know very well who it is," Murayama replied in a voice filled with hostility.

"Ah, yes, the escaping devil" he said, getting up from his knees and turning to them, examining the teenager with broken eyes - "With a friend"

"Motohama is the fallen angel Dohnaseek" - Kumi introduced them, nonchalantly and without fear despite being against her natural opponent.

"Angel? Are you not enemies? " Daiki asked, scared by

the possibility of fighting and the likely injuries his human body could take.

The fallen laughed in a low voice - "You don't have to worry, I'm too weak to threaten you in my condition. Now I'm just a lonely priest guarding this temple of God"

But the teenager did not feel calm after this declaration, everything from the supernatural world is always dangerous. The girl just shook her head, sighed and said, "Dohnaseek, I'm here for a favor you owe me."

"And how can someone like me help you?"

"I need a holy weapon," she replied, crossing her arms, "For him," she nodded at the teenager with brown hair.

"So they found you" - he scratched his jaw - "All right, wait a moment here" - he replied and went inside the building. In search of the indicated item needed to defeat the giant hunter.

"Murayama, how is it possible that a fallen angel owes you a favor," Motohama asked curious about connections between opposing factions.

"I saved his life, and in return, he had to tell nobody who and why I am here," he said, slightly impatient with waiting.

Daiki was to ask even more but he was interrupted by the sounds of the priest's footsteps, he came back with a large box. He opened it and pulled out a revolver of pure white metal and gold, and several bullets that emitted warm light. At the sight of them, the girl flinched and stepped back as if their glow hurt her.

"Here," Dohnaseek said, throwing him a gun. The gun itself weighed little, it was light as if it were made of feathers. The weapon held well to his hand, not too big or too small to escape his grip. "Irons left by the exorcist, I have no use for it so you can have it," the fallen added.

"Cool, but there is one problem," said the teenager, turning the revolver in his hand, "I can't shoot," he finished disappointed.

"Don't worry, the barrel of the gun automatically aims at the nearest signature of demonic energy," explained the black-dressed man, pointing to the gun that was now directed at the devil.

"And with your power, you'll be able to predict the flight of the shot," Murayama added, normally as if she were not in the crosshairs of the weapon.

"And if you want to fight closely" - Dohnaseek pulled out a white cylinder, which after pressing the trigger fired a white stream of energy in the shape of a blade. Motohama took the sword and made a few test swings with his hand, fragments of light fell from the weapon with each blow. Here, too, he did not feel the weight of the object he held, as if nothing weighed.

The angel with black wings pulled out the last tool that would help in the fight, it was a gray ball the size of a basketball ball with rods driven on one side, and white electricity danced between the bars. "It's an anti-demonic mine" - explained the priest - "Everyone who goes within 2 meters will be struck by the pure energy of light"

"That's all?" - the girl asked the devil, Dohnaseek confirmed nodding - "Motohama take things and leave, I do not want to be here any longer"

The boy felt a little overwhelming, so much preparation to defeat one opponent. He must be terribly powerful or Daiki is very weak.

They sat in the cafe thinking and discussing the strategy of the duel. The sun was already disappearing beyond the horizon, and the sky was slowly getting dark with the last flashes of light.

But at one point a perverted expression appeared on the face of a teenager with fragmented eyes. He saved her life and he might not survive the next day so he should get a prize - with this thought, he said - "You know Murayama I feel I deserve a prize for all this"

She just sighed and said, "I'm the devil, so wish what you want and I'll try to fulfill it."

Joy came to his heart - "Let me touch your breasts" - he confessed and then made a groping gesture with his hand.

She was silent for a moment, then she turned all red with anger and hit the boy in the face, shouting - "Scum!"
