Esther
"Hey Mom, when does school start again?" I called out to Sunny. Sunny obviously isn't my mother, but I've never met my real mom and my adoptive mom was quite honestly, a bitch. I tend not to swear often but there's usually an exception to every rule and she is mine.
"You know Esther, for being a self proclaimed genius, you can be sorta dumb," Sam teased me. I gave him a quick up down, his curly hair tousled into a frizzy mess, making him look even more childish than he already is.
"First of all, Samson, it takes one to know one," I paused, smirking at him. He loved silly comebacks. "And second of all-"
"Knock it off you two," Sunny smacked Sam on the head with the empty laundry basket, cutting me off. She smiled lovingly at us for a brief moment before pressing her lips into a small, thin line making a mock angry face. I loved it when she tried to play tough mom. Sam jokingly rubbed the top of his head, groaning and whining about the pain. Sunny smacked him one more time before walking off to finish folding the laundry.
"Chip, love of my life, you're looking a bit awful," I craned my head up at him, smiling. He has the most beautiful face I've ever laid my eyes on but when the black tinge creeps over and dominates his eyes, I can't help but feel sorry for him. I hate whenever he is unhappy, and thirsty means he is uncomfortable.
Chip leaned down and put his lips gently against my ear. Goosebumps covered my arms and if I could be blushing, I would be. "Stella hasn't found dinner yet, my love," He whispered before tilting his head to kiss my cheek.
"Get a room, freaks," Stella floated down the stairs, every movement of hers was graceful and it made me a bit jealous. I moved just as clean as she did but Stella had a certain elegance to her. Stella grabbed the book that laid in the chair adjacent to me.
"I don't know how you can read this with a straight face, especially with the oiled up half naked man on the cover," Stella sniffed. I rolled my eyes at her. Stella can seem a bit harsh but she really is the most sensitive and caring person I've ever met.
"It starts on Monday, Esther. I wrote it on the fridge," Sunny called out from the kitchen. I loved that Sun included a kitchen when she and the boys built the house. It made me feel safe in an odd way, I think it's because it vaguely reminds me of my human years. If I had the chance, I would have rather died on the streets than be transformed. However, I wouldn't have met my Chip and I would have never known true happiness. What horror!
"Thanks, mom!" I called back to her. I was the only one of us taking classes this term. Stella always hated school and preferred to make music and sing in the park. I think she misses performing but we can't take that risk. Everett did whatever Stella did. Samson decided to help Sunny expand our house and tend to the garden. Our little flower boy! Sometimes, I feel bad that Sam doesn't have a mate but he claims he'd rather be single than be "gross like the rest of y'all". His loss, I suppose.
"How do you guys feel about going to see a movie?" Sunny came back to the living room, leaning against the doorframe.
"Down," Samson said without looking up from his solo chess game.
"Also down," Chip echoed Sam.
"I'm not sitting you guys," Stella said nonchalantly, intertwining her fingers with Everett who finally came downstairs from his shared bedroom with Stella. Everett nodded once in solidarity.
"Why not?" I chirped. I loved getting out of the house and people watching. I love the clumsiness of human existence. "What's the movie?" I asked.
"It's a vampire romantic comedy," Sunny said with a grin on her face. "I already bought the tickets, let's head out in twenty,".
Stella
A vampire romantic comedy? How cliche.
Everett
Fun.
