Sonic stood there, tapping his foot impatiently. Team Hero, with the help of Mighty and Ray, had cleared out their designated section of Eggman's base. Shadow had apparently entered on his own, but nobody else could get inside to help. The outside of the base was strong enough to withstand Omega's weaponry, and Blaze's fire. No matter what they did, they were not going to get inside. Something had happened inside, first something that looked like a downscaled Eclipse Cannon had come out of the ground, and before they knew it, there was a portal in the sky. Sonic snapped out of his daze when Tails tapped him on the shoulder.
"Sonic, I just got a report from Rouge! She said that we need to get away from this place as fast as possible. That portal is sucking stuff up, and it's getting bigger. We need to leave, now!" He said. Sonic simply nodded, turning back to the tower for one last look. The portal had gotten bigger and was sucking up more objects, but he spotted something that he had to investigate. Shadow was up there, hanging onto a piece of scrap metal. Sonic had to stop him before he did something reckless.
"You guys go, I'll catch up," He said, speeding towards the cannon, "Don't bother following me! I've got to get Shadow back down here!" With that, Sonic was off, in a full sprint to the tower. Shadow was still slowly approaching the portal, paying no attention to anything beneath him. Sonic was at the base of the cannon now, stopping to gather more speed, and running straight up the cannon's tower like structure. Shadow was still floating towards the rift in the sky, edging closer and closer. Sonic, now halfway up the tower, was struggling to keep his balance, as the portal began to get a grip on him. Looking back up at Shadow, Sonic witnessed his doppleganger being swiftly picked up and sucked into the portal. Upon absorbing Shadow, the portal emitted a massive energy pulse, sending Sonic flying into the air. Sonic plumitted towards the ground. Then he was heaved back up, not by the portal's expanding pull, but by Tail's grip on his ankle. The force of the shockwave broke off the tip of the cannon, only for it to be swiftly pulled back into the portal, increasing its power. Tails struggled to keep him and Sonic from being sucked inside, but the rest of Team Hero came to their aid.
"Do you guys ever listen?" Sonic asked, unsurprised.
"Nope! We get it from you!" Tails chuckled, hanging onto the chain of friendship. Knuckles and Mighty were pulling Ray, while Tails hung onto Ray's tail, and Sonic hung onto Tails' ankles. Together they all managed to barely hang on, while the ground around them was being ripped apart, feeding the never ending rift.
Silver hovered, staring at the metallic complex being ripped apart by the ever expanding portal through the dense foliage of the jungle surrounding the base. Blaze was at his side, also examining the carnage, while Amy and Cream were a little farther back, waiting for everyone to regroup. Amy began pacing as listed off all the groups that were out of the way.
"Team Dark is alright, but Shadow is MIA, Team Chaotix is good, we're good, that just leaves Team Her-" Amy cut herself off, realizing what was happening. "Oh no. No, no, no! They can't still be out there! Silver, head down there and get Team Hero back to safety so we can come up with a better strategy!" She ordered.
Silver blasted off, navigating through the floating steel plates and chunks of building. Team Hero looked like a multi-colored string, flapping in the wind. With a single hand, Silver grabbed all five mobians and began to bring them back towards the jungle. That was until the rift sent out another shockwave, making Silver lose his grip, dropping Team Hero. Although they never hit the ground, instead they all were swept up by the rift's vortex. Team Chaotix and Team Dark followed, all of the members scrambling to get back to solid ground. Silver got ready to try and catch them all eight mobians, then there was a scream behind him. The hedgehog whipped around, seeing his team soaring out of the jungle brush, sailing into the sky. Without hesitation, he went to save his team. Cream was clinging onto Amy, while Blaze tried to rocket them back down with her flames. Silver used his telekinesis to try and drag them to safety, but the portal, now swallowing the entire cannon, had gotten too strong for anyone to withstand.
Not even Silver could escape the vortex, now a maelstrom of metal. Everyone was getting sucked into the gaping rift, despite their resistance. A few went in together, like Amy and Cream, but most went in at random, and no one knew where they'd end up.
