It was a clear and dark night in the city of New York. Despite the time, the city was still living up to the name of "The City That Never Sleeps". On a very familiar street was the Xiao Long home. In the last twenty years, that name has gone from being widely admired to almost infamous after Taiyang Xiao Long, the former head of the Grimm Detainment Task Force in Queens, failed to capture and detain his daughter, Ruby Rose, who was a Grimm. Then a few weeks later, secretly aided her in escaping the authorities while claiming to have been under a spell.
Those events caused their likability to be drastically changed in the neighborhood, but they didn't care… they were protecting their daughter, Ruby. Sadly, since their last encounter with Ruby, they had not heard from her since. Where Raven was worried about it, Taiyang saw that as a good thing since that meant that Ruby may be safe in Liberteria, the secret Grimm village in the northern forests of Canada.
Since the events of the Rainbow Bridge, tensions between the neighboring countries have become quite high… but with President Ironwood's final few months in office, Senator Hill stands in line to be the next president with plans to reunite the two countries as well as providing support to the Grimm.
'Though I know that my actions may not be seen as right or just, I did what I did to protect the lives of my fellow Americans. I see now that those who were following my orders may see me as either a hero or a traitor to the country that I served. I plan on doing everything that I can to try and fix what I have done, just as President Elect Hill plans to do,' Ironwood said on the TV.
As Taiyang was sitting in his chair, watching the news when his daughter, Yang Xiao Long, walked in, holding her yellow blanket.
"Daddy, I can't go to sleep."
"Oh no? Well, then let's see what we can do about that."
Taiyang paused the TV and picked Yang up and carried her back to bed.
Taiyang walked into Ruby's, now Yang's, room and placed his daughter back into her bed and tucked her in.
"Tell me a bedtime story," Yang asked.
"Okay…" Tai said as he sat down, "What kind of story?"
"Tell me the one about the magic girl again."
A smile on his face, Tai nodded, "Okay. Once upon a time… there was a little girl. She lived here in New York, and even lived in a house similar to this. She was like every other person, but she had a secret… she could make things happen that most people can't do."
"Things like what?"
"Shoot fire, send cars into the air like nothing."
Yang gasped in amusement.
"But… there were some who wanted to hurt this girl and those like her. They chased her as long as they could, and almost got her a few times. Luckily, the girl was not alone. She was protected by a crow who sacrificed his freedom, a kind old spirit who bought the girl some time, and others that were like her who gladly risked their lives helping her."
"What happened to her?"
"Well, because she knew that she would not be safe, she went north into the unknown… and once she left, I do not know. But I know that she with friends who would keep her safe, no matter what."
"But if you don't know where she is, then how do you know that she is safe?"
"I just know…" Tai said as he kissed Yang's forehead.
"Dad?"
"Yes Yang," Tai asked.
"Will the magic girl will ever come back?"
"…I hope so," Tai sighed, "Okay, go to sleep or else one of the bad men will come and take you away."
Yang giggled as she covered herself with her blanket.
"Goodnight Yang," Tai said as he turned out the light.

In the time between the Grimm Genocide Bill and the present, Liberteria has done nothing but prevail. In 2043, Prime Minister Dunkleman had a diplomatic meeting in a non-disclosed location with the Elders of Liberteria, asking what they wish and telling the Grimm what their price would be for their generosity.
After a peaceful round of negotiations, Canada agreed to providing any requested aid to the "kingdom", as the humans like to call it, of Liberteria as well as safe trade routes to create a supply line to Jiyū, the kingdom in Japan. In exchange for their services, all Canadian citizens who were sick or ill were allowed to come to Liberteria to have their wounds and illnesses healed by the healers of Liberteria.
Now that they were given free terrain to work on their magic, the Grimm exceeded beyond any human's imagination. Elder Ozpin started an experiment to try and find something that would allow the Grimm to focus their spells into for better aim and effect and created what humans referred to in their movies as "wands". It took many trials, but in the end… they prevailed.
When Liberteria was founded, it consisted of only two hundred Grimm who were scared. Now… there are over three thousand Grimm strong.
Along the border of the forest, we see a very familiar duo walking along the perimeter, both wearing rather odd outfits for the time that they lived in.
For the young looking girl, instead of average day looking clothes, her clothing was a white high-neck blouse with brown studded wristbands wrapped around both of her wrists. Her outfit consisted of a black skirt with red tulle underneath, providing warmth from the snow. A black belt bordered in red holds as a rather wand like object was attached to the side of the belt. To counter any thick snow piles, the girl wore thigh-high stockings reaching to a few inches below the hem of her skirt, her red-soled black boots keeping her a good few inches off of the ground.
Beside her was a young looking boy, seemingly around her age. His clothing seemed a bit more like a childish cosplay mixed with average day clothing. The boy was wearing a high collar black shirt under a pure white chest plate, like a knight's, that covers a bit more of his upper abdomen and similarly-colored bracers. Both the chest plate and the bracers are trimmed with gold, and two shoulder pads. Under all that, he wears dark navy jeans and dark brown boots.
The two were walking down the edge of the forest, covering about something in a seemingly friendly manner.
"Look, Jaune, I am just saying that I think it wouldn't be too much to ask if you could also come with."
"Oh you are not gonna play the victim here, Mrs. Rose-Arc, you are in this as much as I am," Jaune said.
The "Mrs. Arc" that Jaune was talking to happened to be Ruby Rose, now Ruby Rose-Arc. From the naked eye, the two would look like teenagers, but they were actually nearing their forties.
"I don't even want to think about how Coco would feel," Ruby chuckled as she walked ahead.
Jaune, fearing what Ruby would say to his lifelong friend, slowly grabbed his wand and was about to cast a spell beneath Ruby's feet. But before he could, Jaune felt himself slip and fall to the ground.
Looking down, Jaune saw that the snow beneath him had turned to ice. He had a look of confusion before he heard Ruby laughing as she had her wand poking in between her armpit.
"Gotta try harder than that," Ruby gave a small smirk as she put her wand back on her hip.
"Tell you what. I'll go with you if you promise to take over for my next mission," Jaune said.
"Deal," Ruby smiled, "But not if—"
Their childish negotiations were cut short when Ruby quickly raised her hand with a look of concern. Jaune, seeing this, quickly took out his wand and looked around.
"What?"
"Footsteps… coming from that way," Ruby pointed.
Without making any sudden movements, Jaune looked to Ruby who pointed up the trees. Knowing what that meant, the two quickly climbed up the trees closest to them and waited as they saw three individuals enter into the Grimm territory.
The relationship between Grimm and humans was slim. Humans were allowed to enter Liberteria to have their sick taken care of or for trade, but
"I seriously think that this is a bad idea," A female voice said.
"You worry too much," A second female voice said.
Ruby and Jaune looked at each other and communicated through sign language.
'Are they looking for Liberteria.'
'They do not sound sick.'
'What should we do?'
Ruby looked from behind her cover and saw the figures. Two of them were blonde and the third seemed… familiar. Meanwhile, Jaune asked, 'Should we warn the others?'
But as he began to ask in sign language, the third figure spoke and its voice shocked Ruby.
'Miss Long, I must recommend that we find somewhere warm soon. I am reading that a storm is going to be coming in soon.'
"Oh you worry too much, Penny."
Hearing the voice as well as the name, Ruby looked to Jaune with a confused look. Why and how is Penny here? Ruby wanted answers and she was going to get them.
Pulling out her wand, Ruby aimed it at the ground around the three and said, "Nix ad glaciem."
Jaune watched as the three suddenly freaked out as the snow around them turned to solid ice, creating a small ring that they would have trouble getting out of. Then, Ruby jumped down right in front of the three while confirming that it was Penny.
One of the humans, a taller blonde woman, pulled out a pistol while Penny quickly got into a fighting stance, 'Home Defense mode activated.'
As Ruby stood up and revealing her face, only Penny recognized who was standing before them, 'Miss Rose?'
Ruby, hearing her childhood mother figure's name, asked, "Penny?"
