Chapter 2: Crowded Dinner
Once they had entered the station at Hogsmeade, Mya followed her friends as they waited to be the last group headed to Hogwarts. They unloaded their bags from the compartments storage and walked towards the carriage bay. They crammed onto a carriage that seemingly pushed itself and began idle chatter.
"It suits you," Narcissa smiled, pinching at the cardigan that Mya wore.
Mya smiled, shaking her head. "I'll always be in debt to you two," she whispered, looking at Lucius as he sent a small smile her way.
"Nonsense! Besides, it was getting depressing looking at clothes that don't fit anymore. I beg you, stay away from the roasted potatoes at Hogwarts. They're bewitched," Narcissa huffed, tugging at her new skirt. Mya let out a small chuckle, tugging at her own skirt and looking at the tracks where the skirt had been shortened.
Suddenly, the carriage came to an unexpected stop, the group letting out unified gasps and angry exclaims. "Is this not where we stop?" Mya asked.
Regulus pointed to the castle, which was still a little out of sight. "Not even close."
Valerio hit the side of the carriage in hopes to get it moving again. "Shit! I am not getting detention on my first day."
"Relax," Lucius tutted, craning his neck as he looked at the carriage in front of them continue on and vanish into the night. "Everyone take a hold of my hand."
"Don't be arrogant Lucius, you only learnt over the summer," Narcissa reminded him. She clambered off the carriage, taking her handbag with her and trudging forward.
Lucius sighed, "what're you doing?"
"Walking," Narcissa shouted back. Mya took her own suitcase and followed after her friend.
There was a small whoosh from behind them before both girls could turn around and see the commotion they were carried off in a bundle. Mya let out a shriek, unable to comprehend what had happened. She saw a blur of Ivan and Viktor's faces just as she landed on the floor with a thud. Mya heard combined groans of those around her as she stood up from the floor and dusted herself off.
Lucius had somehow managed to apparate them to the gates of Hogwarts.
Mya helped Valerio from the floor, who in turn pulled some of the others up. Narcissa was already standing, fixing her ruffled her. She threw a sharp slap at Lucius' chest. "You idiot! One of us could've be splinched!"
Lucius ignored her, brushing past her to look at what had halted Valerio in his tracks. Lying on the ground and groaning in pain was Ivan. Mya and Narcissa followed them, looking down at the young boy.
"What happened?" Mya asked frantically, looking down at Ivan. He clutched his chest in pain as his pale hands started to stain with his blood.
Regulus pushed passed the four who looked down helplessly at their friend, "he got splinched trying to grab a hold of you ... two. Of you two."
"How do you know?" Narcissa asked him.
"Lucius told him to."
"Cissy go tell Madam Pomfrey we're coming," Lucius said, his already pale face turning whiter by the second. Narcissa nodded her head, taking Lucius' bag in her hands and disappearing into the castle.
"Mya, a little help?" Regulus huffed, looking down at the things falling from Ivan's pockets. She scrambled to pick them up in the dark and followed the four as they carried Ivan into the castle. She had no time to revel in awe once again at Hogwarts' splendour, the last time she had seen it was when she travelled by floo to be enrolled and sorted in the Headmaster's office.
Once they had reached the infirmary, the large double doors waited open for them, with a thin short woman standing beside Narcissa at the heart of the room.
"What is going on with you fifth years this evening?" the woman exclaimed. "You know apperation is dangerous business."
Ivan was set on the bed nearest to the woman with a thud, he let out a painful cry. His blood had soaked onto the clothes of those who had carried him, and his black shirt had gone wet.
"Is he going to be alright?" Mya asked, directing the question at no one in particular.
The short woman pushed past Mya, who was stood over the bed and took her wand out. "He'll be fine. Just the small nonsense of pain for a few days." She then began to unbutton his shirt, "won't you help dear. The last time I tore a short I had to pay 20 galleons. Can you believe the sheer confidence?" Mya placed their belongings on the floor gently and helped to unbutton the bottom section of the velvet shirt. His mother had definitely dressed him.
"That's it dear, lift him up for me, won't you?"
Mya nodded her head, picking him up by his shoulders and taking off his blazer and shirt on his left arm whilst the healer, Mya assumed she was, took off the right. The healer then pulled something from her apron pocket and poured it over his bloody chest. There were scars going from one side of his chest to the other, all seeping with blood. His groans of pain died down as the potion sealed the scars and made them almost invisible. Mya, however, noticed a few scars that looked very recent going across his torso.
"Thank you, dear. If you please follow Mr Black, Mr Black and Mr Potter to join your fellow housemates for dinner," the woman smiled.
Mya turned around, the infirmary had been left empty, with her friends having obviously been cleared out by worry of being late to the feast. She then looked down at her hands, expecting them to be covered in blood, but they were clean, along with her uniform.
"Serves him right," Sirius muttered as the two Gryffindor's led the way towards the Great Hall.
"Why did you stop our carriage?" Regulus asked his brother, trying to be as civil as possible. It became evident to Regulus that only his brother and his friends could come up with such a petty 'prank.'
Sirius turned back to him, grey eyes catching grey for the first time since they boarded the train. "Don't think I care enough to," he said, turning back around to James and continuing their whispered conversation.
Once they had reached the Great Hall, Regulus showed her the different tables and the seating arrangements that the students automatically set themselves in. Their friends were waiting for them right by the door, with Lucius and Narcissa seated by the wall, Viktor beside them and Joseph on his other end. The free seats were obviously intended for Ivan and Regulus but they were a man short so there was space for Mya.
"Was he alright?" Lucius asked, his posture relaxing when he saw Regulus and Mya sit next to Valerio. "Sorry we had to leave, Flitwick came in and told us to."
Regulus nodded his head, "he'll be fine. Nothing we didn't see over the summer."
"What happened over the summer?" Mya asked.
Her question was ignored by Valerio, "guess who was just waking up?" he laughed, turning to the Gryffindor table and directing his eye line towards Sirius.
Lucius, now completely at ease laughed along with him, "Sev!" He called across the table for the quiet fifth year, Severus Snape. He held his hand in an okay shape "it works." Severus turned to follow Valerio's eyes, he turned back around to Lucius and let out a small smile.
"Serves them right. They gave Sev hell last year," Narcissa sneered, tracing circles on Lucius' shoulder.
"James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and their little rat Peter Pettigrew," Valerio whispered. Mya nodded in understanding, she knew the first two quite well, having met James over the summer when he had come to help Sirius pack for a trip to "the south of France" as he had called it. Mrs Black didn't let him stay for too long though, he was out as quick as he was in. She knew of the Pettigrew's from her father, who had worked at the ministry with Peter's insolent father. But she did not know too much about Remus Lupin other than the fact that his home was raided when he was little by a pack of werewolves.
"Small world," Mya said, shrugging them off uncaringly. All her attention was currently focused on what the hell had happened over the summer that she had no knowledge of to Ivan and would he be alright.
Valerio cleared his throat and brushed off his blazer. "I guess I have to go say hi to my one true love," he drawled and made way for the Ravenclaw table, seating himself next to Vandana Patil.
"We do not ask questions about that relationship," Viktor huffed, replating his plate before dessert got rid of the main meal.
"I think their parents have gone into an Unbreakable Vow for them," Narcissa piped.
Lucius gave her a confused look, "and where did you hear that from?"
Narcissa raised her pumpkin juice to her lips, "someone told me," she smiled shrugging.
…
Dinner was finished, with the students being dismissed by Dippit and the first years waddling behind their prefects and heads of houses.
Narcissa grabbed a hold of Mya's hand and wrapped it in her own. "I know who you want," she whispered to her as they filed down a staircase.
Mya rolled her eyes, "Cissy, that isn't important until Christmas. It'll work itself out. I just have to do well in school, so I'm not forced to become a housewife."
Narcissa scoffed, "you've been obsessed with Ivan since you met him over the summer."
"Who isn't obsessed with him?" Mya smiled, throwing her head back to laugh and catching a glimpse of James Potter climbing up a moving staircase. He sent a fainthearted smile to her. That was weird, Mya thought to herself as she continued down the stairs towards the Dungeons.
"All you have to do is not show too much interest. The infirmary was a small hiccup, you can't let him believe that you are interested in him in any way. He has to fall in love with the bitch in you first," Narcissa blabbed, waiting as the password was whispered somewhere in front of them and they were let into the Slytherin common room.
"Just show me the fifth-year room, I am exhausted," Mya sighed, rubbing her temple. Narcissa pointed to a black steel door on the right of the common room.
"Have fun with Milly," Regulus smirked stalking behind them with his hands in his pockets, giving Narcissa a kiss on her cheek and hesitating before doing the same to Mya and making his way to his own rooms.
