Chapter Two
She managed a twenty minute nap and a hot shower before she arrived at her usual 7:45 time at the lab. People didn't normally start coming in until about 8am but she liked having at least fifteen minutes to herself and sometimes Cam who often came in early as well. With coffee in hand, she made her way into her office and sat down with a soft smile on her face.
Midday flowers arrived in her name with a simple note of 'Soon' written on the card. Before Angela could pounce she was making her way up to the lounge her phone to her ear. "Thank you." She greeted when the agent picked up the phone.
"I don't know what you're talking about." He teased making her question if the flowers were really from him or perhaps she had a stalker. Before she could question it he was chuckling. "You're welcome, Bones. Though this is not my way of asking you out on a date." He started making her raise an eyebrow as she sat down.
"Oh?" She asked him before hearing a hum in acknowledgment before speaking again. "Nope." He said with a pop of his mouth. "But I do want you to go to dinner with me tonight." Booth asked and she laughed.
"Isn't dinner considered a date?" She asked before he continued. "Not at all, tonight is just two people meeting at Wong Foo's. A date is planned in advance, something I am not going to ask you about yet. You said you wanted me to work for it so in return you get to wait in anticipation."
Her eyes narrowed though she knew he couldn't see her as her lips twitched, two could play this game, "I guess you really want to wait on kissing me again." She murmured. "Bye, Booth." Brennan added before he could say anything else. Bypassing Angela she headed to the bone room. "No!" She yelled at the artist as she attempted to follow her. This was her time to have a secret that she definitely wasn't going to share.
Over at the Hoover building, Booth whistled down the hallway flipping his sobriety chip a slap happy grin on his face. "Agent Booth, you look to be in a better mood than you did last night." Sweets mentioned causing the older man to roll his eyes.
"Sure am, Kid, Nice talking with you." Booth said slapping him on the shoulder as he passed by. They weren't going to let Sweets in on their post book meeting conversations anytime soon, and definitely not until he had his first date with Bones.
Nothing made him more nervous than planning a date for his partner when in reality they had been out together so many times, he wasn't sure how to make it special. Their normal places didn't seem appropriate, they went to the movies together before and even strolled through the zoo a time or two. He was completely lost as to what to plan let alone set a date for it.
He sent her a text of what time to meet her at Sid's and sat at their normal place at the bar with their usual drinks already ordered. His lack of sleep was wearing on him but as she entered the room looking gorgeous as ever his tired mind went away. "How do you look so beautiful with no sleep?" He asked as she sat down and took an immediate sip of her drink.
"Really good makeup." She beamed, making his heart beat into his throat and it took everything in him to not take her in his arms and kiss her. He let her place that dumb no kissing rule though and he silently cursed himself for the little challenge brewing between them. He had more surprises up his sleeve though as Sid placed food in front of them.
"How was your day? Anything interesting happen?" He asked with a smirk as she dove into her miso soup. "I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers and then was annoyed by Angela over them all day. I'm fairly certain the sender sent them on purpose knowing that exact thing would occur."
Booth chuckled and leaned his shoulder into hers. "I don't know why you would say such a thing, sending flowers is a very pure task Bones." Of course he knew Ang would be all over the receival of flowers but it was still a genuine action. Nevertheless he still laughed at the thought of Angela hounding her all day.
"You are not very humorous, Booth," Temperance scolded but the light in her eyes said otherwise. "Not funny at all." She hummed as Sid brought over the check and two fortune cookies. "Since when does he have these?" She asked, picking up one and examining it.
"Guess he has to cater to the masses, here open it." He said watching her look at it in disgust. Rolling his eyes he took it from her and opened it before handing her the cookie. "I don't care if you eat it, just read the fortune." Booth urged and she sighed and opened up the cookie and looked at the fortune. Will you go on a date with me, Bones?
"Booth! How?" She asked and he wiggled his eyebrows at her. "What would you have done if it was the wrong cookie?" Reaching around her he popped open the other cookie and opened it to show the same message.
"Had my bases covered, just in case." He grinned. "Though this is all I'm saying until you answer." The little game started between them was only going to get more interesting as she hummed and looked at the fortune, playing with the piece of paper in between her fingers. He groaned at her lack of response and she did nothing but grin at him.
"Would you like to take me home?" She finally asked as she slipped the fortune in her wallet and licked her lips. He gaped at her and she placed a hand on his thigh. "That's just cruel, Bones." He mumbled. "I thought you weren't saying anything until I answered?" She quipped as she stood up and walked towards the door only looking back to watch him throw some bills on the bar and follow after her.
They made it to his suv and she slid into the passenger seat giggling to herself as he slammed the drivers door shut. He turned towards her and the glare in his eyes immediately made her laugh until tears were running down her face. "Bones! It's not funny!" He huffed and she wiped at her face before leaning towards him until her lips were barely touching his.
"Yes, I'll go on a date with you." She finally whispered before capturing his lips with her own in a heated kiss. He kissed her back before finally pulling back. "You said you weren't going to kiss me until we went on a date." Booth said as he played with the ends of her hair.
"I changed my mind." Temperance smirked. "I also really wanted to kiss you so, since it was my rule, I'm allowed to amend it as I see fit." Playing with his suit jacket she then sat back in the seat. "And now I want you to take me home, I didn't get any sleep last night and would like to rest."
Putting the car in gear, Booth drove to her apartment and decided to be a gentleman and walk her to the door. Stopped as she searched for the keys he took a step towards her and she laughed before putting a hand on his chest to stop him making him groan loudly. "Would you like to come in for a drink?" She asked.
"Is it going to lead to more teasing and cruelty?" He scoffed as he tilted his head. She shook her head as she tugged on his jacket before unlocking the door and pulling him inside. Locking the door behind them, she stopped and pulled him closer for another kiss. "How about that drink?"
Temperance moved to the couch as he grabbed them each a beer from her fridge. "Thank you." She said as she took the bottle and watched him sit down with just enough distance to know he was playing it safe. "When is our date?" She asked after a long moment.
"Friday, 7pm sharp." He replied and she nodded in return mentally marking the date in her head before inching closer to him. "Bones, what are you doing?" He wondered as she sat her bottle on the table in front of them.
"I want you to kiss me." She said matter of factly. "Do you love me?" She continued as she took his bottle from his hands and joined it with hers. "You know that I do." He replied and she nodded as she pressed her body into his side. "Then kiss me, please." It didn't take him more than a second to respond by pressing his lips against hers and she wrapped her arms around his neck pulling them closer together.
Gasping for air they smiled at one another the chemistry between them exploding with the tension that had been brewing for years. Moving to straddle his lap, Temperance played with the collar of his shirt as he gripped her waist. "Bones, I don't want to push you into anything." He whispered. "You're not, I make my own decisions. Am I pushing you?" She replied and he simply shook his head before kissing her again.
Satisfied with the response she stood up she held out her hand to him for him to take as he stood up with her. Leading him to her bedroom she felt a ping of nervousness hit her as she paused at the doorway. "Bones, we don't have to." He whispered, his hand tugging hers lightly as she looked at him and smiled.
"No, I'm okay. I want this, I promise." She assured him before opening the door and guiding him into the room.
