As the night grew older, Ash had begun to grow more and more impatient. He hadn't managed to whisk Misty away at all yet… In fact, the two weren't even given an opportunity to speak to one another again. So instead, Ash sat in the living room, a cup of cocoa in his hand as Professor Oak rambled on about how well his pokémon were doing at the lab and yada yada. Don't get him wrong, Ash would be forever grateful to the professor for everything he had done for him over the last 10 years of his life, but at the moment he only had one thing on his mind. Swirling the cocoa around in his cup, Ash let his eyes fall on the girl across the room from him. There she stood, a look on her face that gave the impression that she was feeling the exact same way he was. Although she tried to be polite and smile in attempt to amuse the guest she was speaking to, Ash could tell she was dying to get out of there. Her appearance was still as perfect as it was some three and a half hours ago when Ash had seen her for the first time this evening; but frankly, she could be wearing a paper bag and he'd still think she was a beautiful as she looked right now… because she was just that naturally, she was beautiful; inside and out. He couldn't help but want a little more from her. She was like a magnet; something he'd been drawn to for the last ten years of his life, since the fiery red head saved him from drowning on the first day of his pokémon journey. No words would ever be able to express just how much she meant to him. These feelings like a blazing fire burning deep within him, growing brighter with every conversation… every smile… every glance. Emotions strong enough to scare the invincible Ash Ketchum himself.

"Ash, my boy! Are you alright?" Professor Oak voiced rather loudly, snapping Ash from his thoughts and bringing a hand to his shoulder. Ash must've been pretty zoned out, because some of the guests around him were staring at him as if this wasn't the first time the Professor had tried to get his attention. "I umm- I'm sorry Professor, could you excuse me?" Ash mumbled, apologising again. Jumping up from his seat, he made his way over to the stairs that would lead to his bedroom. Being here in this room was killing him. Driving him insane. He couldn't sit there and watch her converse with someone else, especially considering what could've- no what WAS about to happen between them. It was driving him crazy that he could have- no WOULD HAVE finally known what her lips felt like, how it feels to be kissed by the person you love. That was just it. He had to leave that room, or he was going to explode. A chance to finally tell her how he felt was stolen, and Ash couldn't cope with holding it in anymore.

He loved her… and she had no idea.

"Misty, dear. Do you think you could help me get dessert set up?" Delia Ketchum's voice floated through the dining room, and into the ears of a particular red headed, young woman. Thanking her lucky stars that she was pulled from the most boring conversation of her life, Misty excused herself and kindly obliged; following her best friend (hopefully something more)'s mother into the kitchen. Misty had been left rather disappointed this evening, not even the smell of her favourite gingerbread cookies had been able to cheer her up. She knew why she felt the way she did, but hadn't wanted to make it obvious to those around her... Especially not her sisters, they'd never let her live it down if they were to find out that Misty was still heartbroken over her childhood crush, Ash Ketchum. Ugh. This was pathetic; why couldn't she just tell him how she felt, instead of waiting for the chance for the perfect first kiss to finally unfold only to have it taken from her before any actual kissing was to occur. I mean, it's not like Ash would be around long enough to reject her if she was to tell him right?

"Everything okay sweetie?" Delia asked, concerned about Misty's unlikely silence as the pair scurried around the kitchen. The guests had finished with their finger foods and main courses and now Misty and the hostess herself were organising the entry of a range of dessert platters which would sit on the tables around the house's living and dining rooms. Misty nodded her head, answering Delia's question. "Everything's fine Mrs K! Honest, " she smiled, scooping up a tray before exiting the kitchen before anymore questions could be asked. It was exhausting keeping up the fake happiness act, especially in front of the person who could always see right through it. Misty usually always loved Mrs Ketchum's Christmas parties, but with so many things left unsaid between her and a certain raven headed young man, Misty's head was beginning to spin. If she hadn't promised to help stick around right till the end in order to help clean up; she would've left right now.

She missed Ash so much while he was away. Phone calls and video calls were never a good enough substitute for actually seeing him in the flesh. Being able to see him here at home, in front of her eyes, his gorgeous pools of chocolate brown sparkling in the sunlight when they'd walk along the beach; the sound of his breathing soothing her to sleep when they attempted to watch a movie in her bedroom; the familiar smell of his cologne, filling her nostrils and confirming that he was here with her; and she didn't need to feel upset anymore because he could hold her close and tell her it was alright and that he was here now. How would she be able to cope with him leaving again? He would go straight back to the Kalos region after this party and she didn't even get to tell him how she felt...

That she loved him. A secret she had kept for so long. One that broke her heart more and more, with each day they spent apart. Nope, she definitely wouldn't be able to watch him leave, not again.

It is a mother's duty to ensure the best for her child… Okay, for Delia Ketchum, she may have taken this saying a little too far on more than one occasion. But her Ashy meant the world to her and his smile had the ability to make her day even when she was having a pretty awful one. So, when she watched her son scurry up the stairs and away from one of her famous Christmas parties; his head hanging low, she knew she had to take action; and fast.

Scanning the room, her eyes fell on her favourite young lady, her auburn hair still in tip top condition as she helped out by arranging the food and drinks for the many guests the Ketchum residence held. Delia knew that with Misty's help, she'd be able to slip away and make things right for Ash. Anyone could see why he had left; or maybe Delia's motherly instincts had kicked in… Because she was certain her son couldn't cope with watching from the sidelines. He wanted to be the one Misty was deep in conversation with, his jokes be the ones to make her laugh. Yes, Delia knew her boy and the look on his face said it all. After denying it so many times, he was in fact in love with his best friend; and Mrs Ketchum couldn't be more thrilled.

Fortunately for her, when she made the journey to Ash's bedroom he was no where to be seen, probably in the bathroom or somewhere no one would be able to find him. With a small token in her hand, Delia crossed her fingers that her plan would work and by the end of the night BOTH of her children (in her heart Misty was the daughter she never had), would be as happy as they were when they saw each other for the first time in over a year, some 4 hours ago.

"Pi?" A little electric mouse, Ash's most loyal companion piped up from his place on his trainer's bed. After a long journey, Pikachu had fallen asleep, not even bothering to join the party downstairs.

"Oh Pikachu! I'm sorry darling, go back to sleep…" Delia cooed, moving towards the pokémon and scratching his ear. "Cha," Pikachu squeaked in admiration, nuzzling back into the pillow he slept on. Delia breathed a sigh of relief, she didn't want Ash to know she was up here, or her plan would be ruined. She had to work fast. So, hanging the token from her hand above his door frame, the older woman smiled to herself and walked back downstairs. The party was ending and as midnight approached Christmas was nearly upon them.

Luckily, her gifts were all already taken care of.

"Bye guys, I'll see you all back here tomorrow for Christmas lunch!" Delia called to her family's closest friends, closing the door as they all left to enjoy the last few minutes of Christmas Eve.

"Daisy, I'll be fine! If I don't stay here, I'll drive home soon honestly," Misty assured her sisters, she'd be fine and well if they left without her. She had promised Delia she'd give her a hand tidying up and her sisters were worried about leaving her behind as Cerulean City was a long way away from Pallet, and to them it seemed even further when travelling at night time. But, with a nod and a wave, the girls left, Daisy on the arm of Tracey Sketchit.

"Well honey, I guess that leaves you and I, huh?" Delia smiled sweetly, piling up the plates in the room in front of her. Misty smiled in return, her heart forcing her to mention that Ash was here somewhere, her head deciding against it. No matter how hard she tried, he was on her mind all night.

So it was no surprise, that she could think of nothing else but him when helping out with the cleaning. Their chance at a first kiss was long gone and there was no way they'd have a shot at another one, not tonight. With a deep sigh, Misty had cleared the last of the living room's dishes, bringing them into the kitchen so she could get started on those in the dining room.

"Thank you, dear. I've actually cleared the dishes in the dining room already… Would you mind going to check up on that son of mine? I don't know where he went off to," Delia asked, lifting a finger to her chin as if she was deep in thought. Misty hesitated for a second. She was nervous that with all the thoughts she was having about her place in Ash's life, things might become awkward between the pair… But somehow she felt herself accepting Mrs Ketchum's request and making the familiar journey up the steps towards his bedroom.

There he was, sitting on his bed, dressed the same as before, his back to the door where she stood. "I don't know what to do, buddy…" he spoke softly, to the pokémon beside him. Pikachu offered his trainer a few nudges of support, receiving a scratch behind his ear in return. Misty cleared her throat awkwardly, trying to gain his attention. Although, she was not in any way prepared for it.

"M-misty, hey," Ash said, jumping from his position on his mattress and walking over to join her in his doorway. Misty tried her best at a genuine smile. "Hey, are you alright? Your mom asked me to check if you were okay, she didn't know where you had gone off to…" she voiced repeating Delia's words, her gaze pinned firmly on her feet at the ground.

"Yeah you… I mean, I'm okay, are you?" he retorted, a confused Misty looking up. "W-what do you mean?" she asked, mentally cursing herself for the stutter. "I don't know, you just seem… different to earlier," Ash continued, his voice pleading with her to look up at him. She didn't budge. "Oh… um no I'm okay," she repeated, "I guess I should go back and help your mom out."

Turning away from him, she began to move closer to the staircase. This isn't how she wanted to leave things with him, but what choice did she have? "Misty, wait!" Ash piped up, breaking the silence between them and leaving her frozen in her tracks.

"Yeah?" she whispered.

"I need to tell you something… And please just know, I don't expect you to say anything I just need to let you know." This was enough to send Misty's heart racing, her feet guiding her back to the door of his bedroom. With a nod she pressed him to continue.

"I love you. I always have and I'm pretty sure I always will. I don't know what it means for us… I mean you're my best friend Mist, but it's killing me. I-I just needed you to know…" he mumbled, this time his eyes were at the ground. Misty's however, were wide open; a bright grin adorning her pale features. With a sigh of relief, she let her head fall back, when something above them caught her eye.

"Oh my god," she laughed, Ash's head snapping back up. "I knew I shouldn't've said anything…" he groaned, Misty laughing again. "Ash, shut up… look up." She ordered, Ash laughing along with her when he spotted it too.

"Mistletoe," Misty stated, smiling at him. Ash leaned in closer to her, snaking an arm around her waist to pull her in before their lips finally made contact. There was no way his dreams of this moment could ever be as good as the real thing. The feeling of Misty's hands in his hair, their tongues dancing together in sync as their lips fit like a perfect mould. Only when they became desperate for air did they pull away, both resting their foreheads against one another's as they allowed the oxygen to fill their lungs. "That was sooo worth the wait," Misty giggled again, "Merry Christmas Ash… I love you too." Ash bit his lip, a vibrant smile replacing the nervous expression on his face. "Well, are you going to keep staring at me, or are you going to kiss me again?!" she pressed impatiently, causing Ash to laugh rather loudly. She didn't need to ask him twice. In an instant his lips were back on hers… He'd definitely be sticking around the Kanto region for a while after tonight. Where she was, he'd be there… and Misty felt the exact same way.

From her place in the middle of the staircase, a particularly cheerful older lady stood still; beaming at the words she had just heard atop the steps of her home.

Because it was the duty of any good mother to do whatever she could in order to make her child happy; and thanks to a little Mistletoe, Delia's Ashy was ecstatic.

Yep, this year's party was the very best, like no year before it ever was. Mission accomplished.

YAY, all finished! I hope you loved this, please let me know :)
