SYOC is still open!
As the monster bared over me, I reached into my pocket and searched desperately for my ushabti. This monster, with its scorpion tail and claws, wasn't like anything I'd seen before. It snarled, showing its fangs.
"Now, DIE, Son of the sky cow! "
It attempted to bring down one of its huge claws, but I blocked it with my staff. The creature was strong; It easily pushed me to the floor. In my pocket, I wrapped my fingers around my ushabti and through it into the monsters open mouth.
"Ahnk!"
The creature swelled and growled. It backed up and threw its head around. Inside of the monster, my ushabti grew into a 6ft man, which wasn't good for the monster. The monster gave one last roar before exploding in a shower of red dust.
I staggered to my feet and hobbled over to Avis, who was curled into a ball. She stared at me with an unnerving amount of silence. Usually, you see, Avis is a chatty person, like her father. Now, however, her glasses were broken and eyes were glassy and dilated.
"Master?" My ushabti, now full height, bowed to me, "Should I create a portal?"
My ushabti had my features, but he was entirely blue and 6ft tall, so you couldn't mistake us, unless you were Avis without her glasses.
"Y-yes, please, In. To the Fort."
In, which means fish, is my ushabti's name. I called him that, because he's blue and Avis says he has a fish face. Which, by extension, is calling me a fish-face. Thanks Avis.
Well, anyway, I attempted to lift the unconscious Avis up, but either she was to heavy or I was to weak. I think I'm too weak.
"Stay with me, Avis. We'll be home soon. "
At that point, I could feel someone watching us, but I didn't care, all I wanted to do is get Avis back to the Fort. In did as told, he summoned a portal and scooped Avis up. We jumped into the swirling vortex, it closed behind us, zapping us back home.
Alba Shepard POV
I instantly hated him.
The brown haired, blue eyed, little sneak. He was gorgeous, no doubt about it, but a sneak none the less. His friend the golden haired, blue eyed girl who, luckly, had been poisoned. Unfortunately, the poison only lasts a day. I wanted that duo to suffer for hurting our best solider.
As I hid behind the statue, I noted the portal summoning statue. I also noted the word 'Fort' and 'Ahnk'. They went, which was a relief . Stepping from my hiding place, I chuckled.
"You'll pay."
I summoned a cloud portal, inherited from my father, Baal, the 'cloud monster'. Well, this was going to be an eventful week.
Elijah Grey POV
We dropped from the ceiling of hospital, onto a bed. In placed Avis carefully the black linin bed before shrinking back to his original tiny size. I tucked him into my pocket as Justin, trainee doctor, opened the curtains that surround the bed.
"How-?"
"Portal."
" Oh, Avis? Is she badly hurt? "
Justin strode over to her side and placed a hand gingerly on her forehead.
"It- it wasn't our monster. It was a scorpion man. Poisoned..."
I babbled on, stressed about the newly found monster and how long the poison would last. Justin arched his eyebrows at me, he gave a small smile and sighed.
" Justin? "
"She- it- it's hard to- hard to say."
Justin racked his hands through his brown hair and ran his tongue over his lips. His black and gold uniform reflected the beams of light coming through the window overhead.
"Eli, it's diner, go eat. She'll be fine, I promise."
I trusted Justin, so I slowly turned and shuffled out of the Hospital wing. Whatever that creature was, I needed to find out. So, before diner, I was going to do some... reaserch. And I knew just who to ask.

Just to tell you, Fort Sa-Re, or The Fort as it's affectionately known, goes back to the reign of Narmer ('Striking Catfish', stupid name) who, with Osiris and many other major deities. It was founded as a protective training area for their respective children.
Over the years it has changed location only twice. Egypt, to Spain, then to America. Don't ask me how or why, it just has. I guess that the safest location of the time period.

" Kei? "
I leant around the doorway of Kei's Library dominated room. If you've ever met Kei or Thoth, then you'll know they are self-confessed utter nerd. So, her room is like a library and workshop in one with a bed crammed in one corner, like it was forcefully out there. She has a small pet baboon called Newton that holds a strong grudge against me.
"Kei?"
Tentatively, I edged around the doorway. Out of my pocket, I flicked my staff, which was disguised as a paintbrush in case of rogue baboon.
"Yo, Elijah!"
Kei kicked back from her workstation and lifted her goggles. She grinned, threw her goggles onto the desk and stood up. Her short black hair was tied back into a ponytail. She had features that made her look more like a Japanese goddess than daughter of Thoth.
"Watz zup?"
"Do you know anything about... scorpion men of Mesopotamia?"
She pressed her lips and turned to search her heavily laden bookshelves.
"Yup. Here, 1910 essay on the myths of the Persia and Mesopotamia."
I stared dumbfounded at the blue canvas cover, "Wow ."
"I've a lot of things like that... from every period."
Slowly I turned to the first page but dropped it, it burned. The iconography on the first page shone bright red. Both Kei and I recoiled. The light burnt my mind and eyes. The lyrics chanted by the scorpion creature moaned in my memory.
Then it stopped.
Newton was sat on the book, smacking it with a flyswatter.
"Good- good boy," Kei patted her pet.
I stumbled back and slid down a bookshelf. My head was pounding, a reaction out of proportion for the moment. My vision went double and hearing hazy. Gods, I hoped I wasn't dying.
"Elijah? Elijah?!"
My throat closed up and I mouth was dry.
"Elijah?!"
As you can probably guess by now, I passed out. A red symbol burnt through the darkness, an ancient one I hated to recognise...
