Enjoy!
"Chiron!" A girl's voice interrupted my conversation with Chiron, quite rudely, if you ask me. But I guess that's why nobody did. She stormed into the Big House and faced the centaur, so I couldn't see her face, but I could see her long, choppily cut black hair. "You told me to talk to you if I face any more problems because of my upbringing instead of hunting and scaring the blood out of the problem-maker, so here I am. I know, it's a miracle, I actually listened. Even I'm surprised."
Chiron frowned. It was a good thing that I was only telling him I was staying for the entire summer and not that some primordial god wanted to obliterate everyone in existence, because I had a feeling that the girl would be talking for quite a while. Who was she, anyway?
"Rome, what did they do?" Chiron sighed. Wait, her name was Rome? What kind of a name was that for a Greek demigod? Well, I assumed she was Greek; she was a little too headstrong to be Roman.
"The Ares git, Clarisse? Yeah, she was bullying another camper, so I defended him, and her siblings decided to steal my bow! Now I have no idea where to find it, and I'm searching for Jasper again tomorrow!" she ranted.
Chiron sighed. "You're looking for Jasper again?" he asked, exasperated. From the way he was speaking, it was obvious that Rome often tried to look for "Jasper", maybe without permission.
"Oh. Right. Yeah, I need to find Jasper. He's a demigod and my brother for the gods' sake! And he's living on the streets!"
Chiron sighed. "Rome, do you have a plan?"
Silence. Then, "Improvise?"
A small smile tugged at Chiron's lips, but he refused to let it fully form. "Mr. di Angelo, why don't you help her make a plan? And yes, you're fully welcome to stay for as long as you want, my dear boy."
Rome whirled around, her electric blue eyes widening in recognition. Which was weird, since I don't think I had ever met her. "Di Angelo? You're staying?" she asked, sounding shocked.
I gave her a look. "I'm sorry, I don't think we've met before; who're you?" I thought I said it nicely enough, but her eyes flashed with irritation. I was pretty sure they turned a steely silver, too.
"Oh, sure, just forget about me, the one who kept you alive in New Rome and practically everywhere else before and after that!" she snapped. Then she stalked out of the room, nose stuck in the air and muttering about how I hadn't even changed even after two years. She slammed the door shut.
"I don't think she wants my help," I drawled.
Chiron sighed. "Nico, you know she's always been overlooked and forgotten; you don't have to torment her about it."
"No, seriously. Who the hell is she?"
Chiron looked surprised. "Why, she's Romela Hunt, of course."
Romela Hunt.
No way... how could I forget her?
Forget my best friend?
I bolted out of the Big House.
Well, let me know what you think!
