Goliath Smash
Chapter Two
It's been one week since the U.A. entrance exam, and my mother and I sat in our living room staring at the letter that was addressed to me from U.A. Highschool.
"I don't think the envelope is going to open itself, Yukio," Mother teased me gently. "Go on, open it up!"
"I thought I did pretty well," I grabbed the envelope and held it in my hands. "But now that it's here, I'm kind of nervous."
Yes, puny Yuki always nervous.
For all I know, I could have been disqualified because you destroyed half of the buildings in the battle center.
"Yukio?"
"Sorry mom," I rubbed the back of my neck and chuckled. "Just bickering with the big guy again. Goliath said that I'm always nervous."
"Well, he almost has a point," I squawked as she ruffled my hair. "But that's only because you don't want to fail."
"Of course I don't want to fail," I rubbed my thumbs along the corners of the envelope. "I don't want to let you down, is all."
"Oh honey," she cupped my cheek. "You could never let me down, ever. You are my son, the light of my life and nothing is ever going to change that."
"Why do you always have to say such embarrassing things?" I blushed and looked away from her.
"Because I'm your mother and it's my job to do so," she laughed. "Now go on! Let's see this acceptance letter!"
"Yes, yes," I smiled and tore the edge of the envelope open.
Upon pulling out the piece of paper that was inside, a little black disc fell on the floor in front of me.
"What do you suppose that—"
Her question was interrupted as an image of All Might popped up as a hologram.
"All Might?!" We both shouted in surprise.
"I am here as a holographic image!" He laughed into the camera that was recording him. "As the newest staff member of U.A. Highschool, I have been asked to record all of the messages being sent out to our examinee hopefuls! Young Tantariichi, you passed the written portion of the exam flawlessly, and if it weren't for your records, we wouldn't doubt it if you told us you had some sort of knowledge retainment Quirk. Moving on to the mock battle portion of the exam, you also performed spectacularly! You scored a total of seventy-five villain points, but that's not all the exam was graded on!"
All Might took out a remote and turned on the screen behind him, revealing video footage of when Goliath recognized Uraraka being trapped beneath the rubble and leaping to destroy the zero-pointer robot with the curly-haired kid.
"U.A. is aware that you were placed on the Government's Watchlist of Dangerous Quirks when you were younger, but did you just watch what I did? How could a person who jumps into the jaws of danger to save people and do the right thing ever have the chance of becoming a villain?! On top of your villain points, a panel of judges also awarded you fifty rescue points! A total of one hundred twenty-five points! You are now amongst the select few in school history to ever break the one hundred twenty mark in the practical exam! It is with no surprise that you pass! So, come, young Yukio Tantariichi! This is your Hero Academia!"
The holographic message ended as All Might's laugh reverberated through the room.
You see, puny Yukio. Goliath smash made you the strongest!
I ignored Goliath and remained in shock, mouth agape.
"Yukio!" My mother tackled me onto the ground. "You did it! I know you could!"
"M-mom," I wiped the tears from her face. "Why are you crying?"
"I'm just so proud of you," she hugged me tightly. "You are growing up to be such a wonderful man. I know your father would be just as proud of you if he were still alive."
"You think so?" I asked, helping her back to her feet.
"Oh, my love," she ran a hand through my hair and smiled at me. "He was already so proud of you as a baby. There is no doubt in my mind that he would be the proudest father in the world. He is the proudest father in the world."
"Thanks, mom," I hugged her once more. "I—I needed that. I love you."
"And I love you, my world," she gave me one final squeeze before letting go and clasping her hands. "How about we go out to celebrate, ne?"
"That sounds great!"
"Let me go grab my things, and we can head out!"
I smiled, grabbing my acceptance form and looking it over.
Goliath believes he should be celebrated.
And why's that?
Why? Goliath did all the work.
I got most of the villain points you know!
Goliath saved the Peace.
I—I don't have anything to say to that. So, I suppose you're right, Goliath. Thank you for helping Uraraka.
"Is Goliath bothering you again, Yukio?" My mother walked around the corner, purse in hand.
"Ah, no," I slipped my shoes on and opened the door for her. "Not this time, I was just, I guess—thanking him for helping out Uraraka when she was trapped."
"Uraraka, hm?" She asked while walking out the door.
"Yeah," I responded while locking the door behind us. "She—"
Wait.
I looked at the way she was looking at me and groaned.
"Mom, we barely interacted before the mock exam. At most, we're acquaintances!"
"Yes, well," she giggled into her hand. "I can't wait to hear all about her!"
"Mom!"
-|SMASHING|-
"That is quite enough!" I winced as my mother shouted at the government official seated across from her.
"Ma'am, I understand—" He tried to respond, but she was having none of it.
"You do not understand!" She raised her voice even more. "My son has been accepted into the most prestigious hero school in all of Japan, and you and everyone else at the Hero Public Safety Commission are all still treating him like he's some sort of criminal! My son is a good man, Mr. Sakimura, and he deserves to have the same experience as any of the other kids!"
This puny man is disrupting the Peace. Goliath will smash him.
No, Goliath. It's what they want to happen.
"We have certain protocols—"
"Screw your protocols!" She rose from her seated position. "Get out of my house."
"I didn't come to argue, Mrs. Tantariichi," Mr. Sakimura got to his feet as well. "I just wanted to let you know what would be happening."
"And you've done that fine enough, thank you," she placed a firm hand on my shoulder. "Now, get out of my house."
Mr. Sakimura collected his things and my mother continued to stare him down until the front door closed with a click.
"I'm sorry, Yukio," she collapsed back onto the couch beside me. "I should go and give the Hero Public Safety Commission a piece of my mind."
Goliath will lead the way.
You will not.
"You don't have to do that," I sighed, trying to ignore Goliath and grabbed her hand. "We knew this was going to happen, it was only a matter of time."
"But to restrict your school activities so much until you pass the licensing exam?" She turned to look at me. "They're trying to set you up for failure!"
"Then I will show them that I can still succeed!" I looked at the time, it was almost time to leave. "I can do it, ma."
"Baby, I know you can." She also looked at the clock before standing from the couch. "You are your father's son. You are my son. There is nothing in this world that will stop you from becoming a marvelous hero."
"I love you, mom," I stood and hugged her. "But I should get going. Don't want to be late on my first day of class!"
"I love you too, my dear child," she hugged me back before shooing me off. "Now go, show them who you are today."
"I will," I slipped my shoes on before going out the door. "I promise."
I closed the door and turned to begin my trek to the train station, only for my irritation to spike at the person who was standing in my way.
"Can I help you, Mr. Sakimura?"
No one is on the street, let Goliath smash the puny human now.
'Government agent murdered in front of the house of dangerous quirk wielder.' Not really the story I'm going for.
Coward.
"I wanted to give you a warning, Goliath," he turned around and while we were the same height, tried his best to look down on me. "The first complaint we get. The first student that gets injured by your hands, and I will personally escort you to the depths of Tartarus where you will become every government scientist's plaything."
I walked towards him and stood in his face.
Thud.
"Are you threatening a minor, sir?"
"You think you can do it, can't you?" He curled his lip. "Become a hero? You? Don't make me laugh. I can see the violence that swirls within your eyes. Everyone can! Even your mother!"
"Don't talk about my mother!" I clenched my fists.
Thud.
Goliath will SMASH HIM!
"You go around like you're not a danger, but you are!"
"I'm not!"
"But you are, Goliath! You were made to hurt people! To destroy!"
Thud.
"We can save people!"
"You will kill people! You are a monster!"
THUD.
"WE ARE NOT!"
I grabbed Mr. Sakimura by the collar and lifted him off the ground. I felt my control of Goliath wavering but I wanted to hurt him.
"Go on then!" He grabbed my hands and spit in my face. "DO IT! I know you want to!"
SMASH HIM!
I…
"DO IT! Show the world who you are!"
Who WE are!
I could feel the anger beginning to pool and just before it went over the top…
"T-Tantariichi-kun?"
It fizzled out.
Mr. Sakimura stumbled after I let him go and brushed himself off before walking towards his car.
"Mr. Sakimura," I called to him as Uraraka approached. "My name is Yukio."
He scoffed.
"Until next time, Goliath." He got into his vehicle and sped away.
"Are you okay, Tantariichi-kun?" The girl offered me a handkerchief for my face.
"I suppose I am," I took the offered handkerchief and wiped my face off. "Thank you by the way."
"O-of course!" She fiddled with her fingers and bit the corner of her lip. "I-I see that you're wearing the U.A. uniform! That means you passed! Congratulations!"
Thank you for not asking, Uraraka.
"Thank you," I looked at her uniform. "Congratulations are due to you as well."
"Yep!" She twirled around. "I got my acceptance letter the other day! I can't believe All Might will be teaching this year!"
"A-ah, yeah!" I scratched my cheek.
Do I offer to walk her to school now?
"Were you on your way to the train station?" She bounced on her feet. "We could walk together!"
Unless she beats me to it.
"It would be my pleasure to walk with you to the train station," I cleared my throat. "And well, school as well I suppose?"
"Come on then," she giggled into her hand. "We've got a train to catch!"
"Y-yeah."
-|SMASHING|-
"One hundred twenty-five points?!" Uraraka's eyes widened. "Wow! That's fifty-two more points than I got!"
"A-ah, yeah." I rubbed the back of my neck. "Seventy-five villain points and fifty rescue points."
"That's incredible!" She skipped ahead and started walking backward. "You know, I got forty-five rescue points myself! Though, it's sort of embarrassing, for a hero that is. When the zero-pointer entered the playing field, I got trapped beneath some rubble and had to get rescued by two other students. If I wasn't in pain, I would have laughed at the hilarity of it all because they both shouted 'smash!' when they went to attack. Well, the curly-haired boy yelled smash, the other yelled—"
"Goliath smash."
Uraraka stopped walking and stared at me.
"That's exactly what he said," she looked confused. "How did you hear? Were you—wait? Earlier when you had the, uhm, altercation with that horrible man. He, he called you Goliath, right?"
"He was referring to my Quirk," I sighed. Explaining a little bit wouldn't hurt I suppose. "I call my Quirk Two-Face because it's like I've got two sides. The other side calls himself Goliath."
Goliath is one, WE are Goliath.
YOU are Goliath, I am not.
"Then you were the other student that saved me!" She ran up and hugged me. "Thank you so much!"
I'm being hugged by a girl! D-do I hug her back? Do I need to ask for her permission first?
"You're a pretty funny guy, you know that?" She backed away after hugging me. "But I forgot that women make you nervous, so I'm sorry for hugging you out of nowhere!"
"N-no! It's okay!" I sped up a bit to walk beside her. "I-I mean, the h-hug was fine! I rather enjoyed it m-myself!"
I turned to see Uraraka laughing near hysterically.
"That was super embarrassing to say, wasn't it?" She frantically nodded her head.
"But, I think it's charming," she stated matter-of-factly as we passed through U.A.'s gates. "So, what class were you assigned to?"
She thinks I'm charming?
I smiled to myself.
"Tantariichi-kun?"
"I'm sorry, what?"
"What's got you smiling over there, hm?" We walked up the steps and I held the door open for her. "Thank you! I asked what class you were assigned to?"
"Oh, I'm sorry," we walked up to the student directory. "Class 1-A."
"1-A?!" She jumped and clapped her hands together. "That's the class I'm in! I'm so glad we get to be in the same class together!"
"A-ah, me too!"
We walked down the hall in a comfortable silence until we reached a door with a familiar person standing just inside of it.
"I recognize that curly hair!" The exuberant girl next to me called out. "You're the plain-looking one!"
Said boy turned around, embarrassment washed over his face.
"Look, Tantariichi-kun!" She proclaimed happily. "He passed just like Present Mic said he would!"
I smiled as she started waving her fist around in the air.
"I-i-i-i-it was only thanks to you speaking to P-Present Mic," the green-haired boy stammered out.
"Huh?" Uraraka paused. "How did you know that?"
How would you know that, indeed?
He started to nervously sputter out a few words.
"Uh, Uraraka," I whispered to the girl as the boy covered his reddening face. She turned her head to look at me. "You might need to tone it down on curly-q, I think he might be just as bad as I am?"
"Hmm," she put her finger on her chin. "Do you think so?"
I looked at the boy and then nodded my head.
"Most definitely," I then noticed how close our faces were and felt my face flame up as well. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!"
"If you came here for a playdate," we turned to look at a yellow caterpillar laying on the floor. "You should go somewhere else. This is the hero course, you know."
The caterpillar then rose from the ground and unzipped to reveal a very tired looking man.
"It took you lot eight seconds to be quiet," he mumbled. "If you were more rational, you kids would know that our time is precious."
Is this our homeroom teacher?
Goliath could smash this puny bug.
He's a person, Goliath.
Goliath was not aware there was a difference.
I sighed.
"I am your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. It's nice to meet you," he greeted the class and then pulled a uniform from out of his sleeping bag. "This may come off pretty sudden, but I will need you all to put these on and meet me out in the yard. You're going to be partaking in a little Quirk assessment test."
Not even one-hour into my first day at school and I'll already have to introduce Goliath to the entire class.
Goliath chuckled in the back of my mind.
Fantastic.
Quite smashing, I think.
Thank you for your time and consideration of reading my story. I look forward to your thoughts and ideas!
Until next time!
